Next Coach?

Mark Jackson is next in line, from a good source. But, we have a coach. We have a coach who brought us a ranked team, and a team who can do some damage. Plenty of ball to play. College teams burn out these days way too early, ask Jay Wright and Coach K. March is hell. I like this regrouping and struggle we are in. We don't want a cake walk and be smacked in the face in March.

Hope not. IMO Jackson is not a great choice.

I agree. But there is nothing wrong with Lavin right now. He is our guy right now. This is a season of opportunity. And with a stellar class brewing in the back lines for next year, it's looking good.

Totally disagree, but just focusing on Duke game for right now.

I'd take Mark in a heartbeat but doubt that would happen.

Your source might need to re-check his facts.

Mark Jackson pretty much despises SJU. He is pissed off at not being looked at during previous searches.

And from a personal standpoint I don't want him coaching SJU. His preaching IMO would not go over well with college kids. It sure as heck didn't go over well with NBA players.

Who would be on search committee ?

How about we pay for a search firm like most big boy colleges do for AD's and prominent coaching hires.[/quote

Nothing is sure fire. Picking a mid-major guy based on his first string of successes at that level is like investing in a mutual fund that delivered a 40% return last year - nothing guarantees what the future will be, and a lot of those funds don't deliver based on one time success. In the coaching ranks, finding a guaranteed success comes with an enormous price tag. something SJU won't bite on. If Lavin is to leave, bank of a mid major guy at a smaller salary, with the likelihood of repeated failure of the program to become domiciled in the top 20

I hate to be one of those supposed lifelong fans who says they are done if a team makes a certain move . . . but I might be done if Jackson is next in line.

Coach Lavin appearing on optimum channel 720, "A Taste of Coaching" with Seth Davis. Big 10 network.

Lavin made an appearance on Jeff Goodman's 10 coaches on the hot seat

I've recently learned from someone connected with the BOT that he is certainly on the hot seat, and some on the BOT are really not happy at all with the performance of the team. Personally, I really disagree with this, and think he is doing a fine job and better than what we have had in recent years.

There r 4 times more than that on the hot seat. Since Louie retired every SJ coach has been on the hot seat by year three! We are.........We are.........

No need to waste money for something so easy.
Archie Miller is the 1st choice. Assuming the Indiana job is not available he would not hesitate to come to St. Johns, assuming he is not low-balled salary wise. If by some freak occurrence he doesn't accept, Bobby Hurley is the 2nd choice.

Its pretty simple now. This team makes the tourney, and advances, AND Lav brings in a stellar class for next season, he gets to keeps his job. If he does not, he is fired and replace by Archie Miller.

Why would Archie Miller come to St Jonh's without hesitation?

True! No smart up and coming coach would come here without examining the school's fan sites to gauge the classiness of the fans. One visit here and there would be great hesitation. Steve Mad Dog
Massielo would not hesitate for one second and neither would Mike Rice or Bobby Gonzalez.
