Next Coach?

who are examples of great X and O guys?

Would Mike Dunlap be appropriate?

was just thinking same thing? not necessarily because he is the right (or wrong) choice...but just wonder how the admin views him and whether they will inlcude him on the list

I am surprised people are being so impatient about this process. Look at Texas. They've been rumored to be firing Rick Barnes since they got bounced from the tournament and still haven't pulled the trigger. The rumor is that they want to go after Greg Marshall but he was unavailable until Thursday's loss. They are probably gauging interest but in the meantime Barnes appears to be a lame duck.

I hope SJU is doing their homework. The one thing I worry about is if Mullin really wants the gig but SJU goes in a different direction, I hope it doesn't damage the school's relationship with Chris.

Trigger pulled. Rick Barnes is gone from Texas

So per Zags little Pitino is letting it be known he's not interested. Hope these other "candidates" at least have an interest.

Why so testy & negative?

Negative perhaps, but testy?

I'm far from the only one who is not being positive about this move.

How's this for positive thinking? Perhaps little Pitino is not interested because he knows that the real Pitino is taking this job and he can take the Louisville job.

I just spoke to our buddy Ralph. He's in the same camp with me on this one. We're not sure if any of these guys being mentioned can do any better. Of course, we'll support the chosen one and be at just about every game.
Thx for scoop on Pitino. :)

I don't do scoops. That is clearly your territory.

Are you surprised about young Pitino declaring no interest?

Why would we want him anyway?whats he done? I don't even think we wanted to speak to him.

Question is, will he now be coming back to the Big East? Salary is within reason.

Hiring Barnes is like hiring Lavin again except Barnes doesn't have good hair

I don't want a retread. Some guys can find the old glory--Lon Kruger and Steve Fisher come to mind--but most are just flops.

We need to make a PR statement. Either go big for a Pitino, Donovan, Marshall or Smart, get an up-and-comer like Miller or a Hurley, or bring in Mullin with the right staff.

All of the above guys are tough coaches that recruits will still want to play for. No more players coaches.

I would have never supported a Mullin hire the last time around, but the guy is a workhorse. The right staff could help him transition back into the college game and the Big East in quick order. You know he'll be in the film room for 10 hour clips until he gets there. We'd own the headlines all year and the buzz would payoff with recruits immediately. Plus, his NBA experience (as an exec but as a player too) and connections could be a HUGE selling point. How many former NBA GMs are coaching?

To add...

Mullin might be the only man alive that could unite the entire SJU fan base while appeasing everyone in the NYC basketball community. He is respected by everyone as both a player and person.

Even our beloved Fun loves the guy. Baldi loves the guy.

the boards would get downright boring

I love the guy, too. But, in my opinion, it's the wrong hire.

Of course he is. Until he wins.

Make that, if he wins.

But you know you'd get behind him.
Plus, it's the only way we could ever have a roster with Minlend, Mullin, Rowan, Barett again. Even if none of the sons scored a point, it would pretty darn cool.

He works hard, dresses appropriately, and doesn't really exaggerate. There goes like 60% of the complaints.

I feel like some on here aren't willing to accept that it will be 2-3 years before we are competitive again. I don't mind it, we are rebuilding. I am fine with Danny or Mullin to come in and rebuild the program

I am willing to wait if that's what it takes to restore stability and sustained success to the program, however something tells me its going to happen sooner then many expect.

Their will never be sustained success in this program. Get used to it.

Up until 2 days ago I would have agreed with you.
