If the school is going to spend big $$$, I hope it's Billy Donovan.
I'd rather the school not break the bank on a coach. Therefore I want Danny Hurley.
Danny already has established NJ HS and AAU ties. He already has relationships with current NBA players. He has already landed an NBA prospect in EC Matthews. And he will bring sorely lacking discipline to the program.
Does he want a bigger job? Sure, who doesn't? But leave us in a good position before you leave is all that I ask.
Give him the keys and a solid Xs & Os guy and see what he can do within 5 years.
Cluess- No. Can't sustain winning and can't get guys to the NBA
Mullin- Nice, but no. I'd love him as an AD but not as a coach.
Bobby Hurley- I could see him falling into depression after the honeymoon phase wears off
Masiello- NO. I see him as a lesser version of Lavin. Big talk. Would be ready to bolt ASAP.
Mark Jackson- Yes, but won't happen.
McKillop- Yes, but won't happen.
It's gotta be Danny.
I'd like 2 things in the next coach.
1- A lifer. Someone who wants this job bad and will not leave for another job. The candidate you said above who would bolt ASAP would NOT bolt from this job. (Provided we continue to pay him if he succeeds). His failed move last year was because he knew this season would be a struggle at Manhattan and with a new AD he didn't get along with. His mindset was take USF and if his dream job opens up he can easily come home.
2- I want someone who can be embraced by the NYC community both fans and the bball people. For far too long its been divided and fractured. This is NYC's team and we need NYC bball people behind it.
I can only imagine the reactions to this lol.
jesus just because of those tweets makes me want to finally upgrade my phone to one with internet
What are you, 80? Do you have a flip phone that's pay as you go?
I actually do have a flip phone. You will see. They are coming back in style
Capel? really ? I hear Steve Lavin is free, Id rather look at him.Ok, so, someone just suggested to me that we look at Jeff Capel. I'm thinking he might be a better choice than Isaiah. (Btw, this one I'm serious about, Beast)
I am hoping like everyone else here thst if mullin is the next coach that he will be very successful. But I still have serious doubts about yet another coaching change. I think many here simply live in the past and think that just by hiring mullin we will be a top 10 team. mullin won't be doing the shooting or passing. It looks like we already lost Sampson who will probably end up haunting us a la polle . The clock won't be turned back to 1985 by hiring someone who never coached before. I compare it to a baseball manager. People announcing or watching games often second guess moves but when you are in the hot seat it isn't that easy to manage. Mullin despite his background will have a lot to learn and will probably wind up being outsmarted by experienced coaches. this program is all.but dead and the school is counting on the mullin name to keep fans in the seats. We will soon be on the level of fordham or wagner.
The pessimism is unreal. Let's see how this plays out. Sometimes change bring good results. We haven't hired a coach and so many are scared. Don't lose the faith.

Mullin or Bust!!!
There's two tiers.
Tier 2: the Hurleys, Mullin, Jackson, etc. The names listed often. They MAY be successful.
Tier 1: the unlikely big timers like Smart, Donovan, Pitino, Miller, etc. They WILL be successful.
We don't have the roster or time for an experiment. If they want guaranteed success, tier 1 is the only option.
Capel narrowly escaped an NCAA mess and ran home to papa. A big state school like ASU could risk investing in him, St Johns could not.
Danny Hurley.
The game threads will be interesting after each tech he gets
do you really seeing this program sticking with this hot head for half-a-decade or more?
Marsha, Marsha, Marsha.
Think we should go with Bobby instead of Jan Brady.
Interesting. Would be thrilled with either. But actually prefer Danny because he was the Jan Brady of players in the family; think he's that much more invested in being the Marsha of college coaches in the fam.
It was mostly a joke. I'd also be thrilled with either. I do think Bobby has the higher ceiling. Danny's temper scares me. Bobby is fiery but under control. Danny seems combustible to me.
If you were a recruit and you had back to back visits from Danny and Bobby (assuming equal caliber schools), what pitch would convince you as a player or father/coach? Danny, built largely as a coach, or Bobby, a winner through and through who has done it himself and can show the recruit how he did it personally? I know who I'd choose.

Mostly agree but watching Danny on the URI sidelines was bringing back memories of Fran decompensating all the way from STJ to New Mexico. I don't think one note guys handle big time Big East pressure in the media capital of the world and they certainly don't know how to avoid power struggles with players and they certainly don't make room for their players who are going through growing pains to come out the other side with grace and lifetime relationships with the people who helped guide them to adulthood. My Danny vibe is fair weather high energy go-getter and foul weather punitive jerk. No thanks.
Christian Laettner! This way we can all hate the coach!
I feel like some on here aren't willing to accept that it will be 2-3 years before we are competitive again. I don't mind it, we are rebuilding. I am fine with Danny or Mullin to come in and rebuild the program

I would say an easy 73% of the people on here have dementia... or as they would like to say 'realists'.I feel like some on here aren't willing to accept that it will be 2-3 years before we are competitive again. a lot easier to say when you're in high school the rest of us could have dementia by then
