Next Coach?

Suppose SJU wants a BIG NAME and they are willing to pay? A proven winner. Can we think of anyone realistic?

I know half of you will think this is crazy, but I could see Pitino being interested. He's a New Yorker. His legacy at Louisville, UK,and Providence have been cemented. There is really nothing he can add to it. Louisville doesn't have it's typical potential going forward.

If I were him, restoring the program he grew up with to its former glory would be a great challenge and even better accomplishment. Plus, he could set up his on perfectly to take over a potential dynasty that Minnesota could never become.

$$$ would be a hold up of course.

Marillac, I don't think it's crazy. I personally would love it. Funny part is that it would be controversial on here and there would be complaints about him! We need a proven winner. They hire someone like him and we are instantly back.

Pitino made $5.8 mil in 2014. Has great facilities, environment, staff, team, incoming recruits.
SJU would have to invest millions$ to upgrade CA & related facilities for starts. Too rich for a 63 yr. old coach.

Hire Mullin. At least he couldn't complain about the facilities.

But coach these same facilities didn't stop you from coming here.

Danny Hurley.

The game threads will be interesting after each tech he gets :)

do you really seeing this program sticking with this hot head for half-a-decade or more?

Winning is all that matters. You think SJU would let him go if they were ranked in the top 25 during the last 2 years on his contract, while doing damage in the ncaa? Haaa

Is Danny Hurley the next gonzo? If things don't go well will he go off his rocker?

Who do you suggest, your guy Cluess? Someone else? Thx

So Pitino is the only BIG NAME we can come up with?

Well most (if not all) of the big name coaches are at bigger schools because they can win games. Why would any of them take a lower paying job to start over?

How big are they willing to go? Screw the up and comers and hope, if they want a sure bet and not another ? Then put up 4, or 5million a year. That will show that they're not playing games anymore.

Would 4million a year make Miller think twice? What if an ACC or B1G only offered 3million. Would he take less money?

Michael Kay said that was the legend they were referring to. He said he has access to a private jet etc. plus they would have to come in at 6 million. Doesn't think they would unless they are determined to go Big Time. Had Looie on the cheap for years and they were spoiled and it's ingrained in them to be ultra conservative. Hence parting ways with Lavin. Wise money would put them on going cheap.

Let's face it. If SJU were the type program to make a bold move like this, then we wouldn't be in the position where we needed a bold move like this as badly as we do.
