I'll take 10-1 and so called bad performances. Most teams get better as the season goes on, so hey if they can just go from bad to mediocre performances the sky is the limit. ;)
This was game 16 if you count the Dominican Republic and exhibitions. Don't expect anyone to get much better. With two exceptions, they're all veterans of seasons past as well. Try to enjoy what we have and pray we find some way to eke into the NCAA tournament at the end of the year.

The team needs a “players only” meeting during which the team needs to call out Curbelo and he needs to apologize for behavior unbecoming a teammate.

He got pulled, sulked on the bench, threw his hands in the air when CMA called his number and then acted like he didn’t want to be on the court including walking back on defense = at which point he was pulled again. Left huddle to put his shirt and sweats on. Not the look of a good teammate.

I believe his ball handling and passing can transform the team but I think his attitude and penchant for flirting with the dangerous play neutralizes the positives.

Hoping he and Posh can find a winning formula but not sure that current roles are going to work Perhaps they need to switch PG/SG roles or Curbelo come off bench. Right now, Posh is frustrated.
while at the game. My daughter even noticed him walking back on d and the attitude

the combination is not working

Yea I've never seen a team play better in March than December. That almost never happens in college basketball. Everyone knows seasons are determined after the first 10 games. 😂

By your logic Creighton and Villanova's season is over as well. Both haven't played that good up to this point. But, difference is St. John's has 0 bad losses on their resume. We might as well go ahead and cancel everyone's season and say Newsman watched the games in December and seen enough, there's no reason to keep playing.

This is great! You guys sound like Congress. Almost no-one can agree with anyone else! ;) 🤪

If you think we havnt played great a lot of the season, you’re right. If you think we are still in good position to have a successful season, you’re also right.

If you focus on the warts, while ignoring all the other teams who have shown worse, or had big time slip ups to this point, your ignoring the ups and downs that are there for every college team.

Well one positive is they've been able to beat all of the teams they've supposed to have beaten by 10+ points, which matters for NET. That wasn't a given earlier in the CMA tenure.

This game was just another example of SJU displaying poor strategy and playing dumb basketball. For longer than one can remember SJU has had a deficiency in accurate three point shooting. It is safe to say just about every opponent whether big east or OOC will have better outside shooters than SJU.
But SJU had a big advantage in the inside game because of height and strength. So the vastly improved center gets nine shots and Jones, Posh, Curbello and WuSu go two for seventeen from three. What is wrong with this team? Posh, Curbello and WuSu will never be decent outside shooters. They have skills in other areas and can be effective ball players but not by taking 25 ft shots.
The only player on the SJU roster with good outside shooting skills is Storr and his defensive short comings limit his minutes but he must get more minutes and shots or it is going to be a long season.
Anderson has to change his strategy of you feel it take it with this roster. Take the time needed to work the ball in thru the center and limit the number of threes.

Agree, but it's a bit of a catch 22 since other teams are going to collapse and dare us to beat them from outside. Knowing full well that we probably won't be able to knock down shots consistently.

Pinzon can shoot the ball also. And Wusu was a better shooter last year. I admit he has been terrible from deep this year. They need to move the ball around from the post and make cuts with the wing players. Then they will find areas to take good shots.
The thing that is crazy is the fan base sees this but it seems like the Anderson doesn’t.

I think the big concern is that we've play poorly/have shown warts against far inferior comp, where as other teams(Crieghton for example) have struggled while playing a much tougher OOC schedule. Having said that, there's still time for us to fix some of our flaws. I just don't know how we're going to fix our lack of outside shooting.

Great post

Why does it seem the coach never seems to tell anyone to stop shooting? How bad do the %s have to be before you get a "you're not good at this, stop doing it"? Or are today's kids too fragile to be able to handle that?
Up 10, couple minutes left, NH not even pressuring the ball. What a break I think(no confidence in our foul shooting), next time up the court, Jones chucks up a 3 with 15 left on the shot clock, or course it goes in, which tells me 1)he'll do it again sometime soon(as stupid as it was) and 2) he learned nothing from his stupidity a couple weeks ago. Whose fault is that?

I am not fortunate enough to be able to watch the game but I certainly follow the thread and pay special attention to certain posters comments who I feel understand the game well.
You can sugarcoat this low ranked victory as much as you want and I say that with respect however I certainly don’t see it that way.
Whether Mathis and Stanley played or not should have zero bearing on the outcome of this game. We have ten times more talent than UNH. Ten times and not an iota less. Posh, Curbelo, Jones, Storr etc are all highly ranked players whom a school like UNH cannot even sniff at in recruiting. We are an upperclassman team, Soriano a senior, Posh, Curbelo, Wusu, Jones are juniors , there is just no excuse to beat UNH by only 13. You say they came out flat after a big win, I say a hungry team where guts are fighting for minutes should have stepped on the oppositions neck and blown them out of the gym.
Right now it seems pretty evident that the sum of the team is much less than the individual talent.
The talent, the ingredients, are there and it is up to the conductor, the chef, the coach, to get the best out of the talent he has.
Sorry but like Jack Williams, who is wise beyond his years, I am just not feeling good about this team right now.
And I don’t want to be a broken record but 4 months ago I watched my sons McGill University team lose to Florida State by 16. They went on to lose to Vermont by 9 and Oregon by 52 to provide a comparison. I stand by what I said that I will be very disappointed if we lose to FSU next Saturday.
You make a lot of sense RNM. Unfortunately your post is lost on some on here who have their own agenda. FWIW UCONN best LIU by almost 60 yesterday.

How is it that we all see the need for spot up, deadly 3 point shooting, but this staff continues to treat players that possess these skills like the plague? You'd think that they would prioritize bringing in players like that, yet we have a band of non-shooters, and we're bringing in 2 bigs next year (which I'm never opposed to), but, Jesus, bring in 2 or 3 knock down shooters as well. Please.

There is no question that the team has not been as good at times as the highest of our expectations would demand. However, 10 and 1 is still 10 and 1 and the Big East Season is still in front of us. Are there Red Flags? Yes, there are some, but the sky is not falling. I think you need to account for the fact that CMA teams typically get better as the season goes on. Establishing better team chemistry, developing defensive intensity and figuring out the team's ability to respond to adversity are still largely works in progress. At this point I am pretty sure that we are not going to be better than UConn and will probably will not be worse than Georgetown or DePaul but where we fall among the other Big East teams is largely unknown.

I am planning on attending every home game, watch every road game, rooting like hell and hoping for the best. Overreacting to the worst or best of what we have seen thus far makes no sense to me. The book is largely unwritten. On May 31st 2022 the Philadelphia Phillies were 21 and 29 and were one of baseball's biggest mediocrities. I don't think anyone at that time had them winning the National League Pennant and going to the World Series. The beauty of sports is the unknown and the hope that we get to see something special. I guess for some investing in hope is too painful, but for me I will definitely hope that the team comes together. I have seen enough to still think that is possible.

It was great to see that they made an offer to Harrison Reade, who seems to foot that bill as an outside shooter

This team will have problems with disciplined teams that shoot well. The half court offense is not good and won’t get better as it is the same as every other CMA year offense. Another non losing year for CMA without going to tournament. I hope I’m wrong.

There needs to be a shake up in the lineup.
Mathis needs to start at the 2 with Posh.
This may should crazy but either Nyiwe or Stanley needs to play at the 4 to provide bigger rebounding and defense and provide an interior scoring threat.
Storr needs more minutes because points have to come from the perimeter but not from Posh or Curbelo.
This coach needs to show he can shake things up to get everyone on his paybook page.
If he doesn't he will lose the team to individual heroes who don't look for the shooters.
