All said and done, I believe Pinzon, Wusu, Jones and Storr can combine for 35-36% from three. I would go as far as to say Pinzon and Storr will actually be good three point shooters this year.

Oddly enough, my bigger concern in the drop-off we are bound to see when Joel is going up against steeper competition. My guess is he will not average a double-double in BE play.

I think the difference will have to come from shooting better from three, Curbelo starting to nail that mid range jumper, and everyone finishing at the rim better when we have those chances.

Boo Harvey and Making Plays. In the middle of this thread you were discussing a St. John's player shaving points. I know enough people whose lives were destroyed by such allegations and children of people whose lives were tainted by such allegations against their parents that I find this kind of cheap mid-game speculation offensive. Please refrain from this kind of behavior. Thanks in advance.

I think the big concern is that we've play poorly/have shown warts against far inferior comp, where as other teams(Crieghton for example) have struggled while playing a much tougher OOC schedule. Having said that, there's still time for us to fix some of our flaws. I just don't know how we're going to fix our lack of outside shooting.
Creighton struggled mightily to win game one vs st Thomas. That’s just one team, but obviously I agree Monte that struggles vs inferior competition isn’t a positive.

Re shooting. Aside from Mathis I’m not sure I think anyone is shooting above their level per say. So there might be something to the fact that for the most part, guys like Jones, wusu, and posh really can’t shoot worse from 3. It id our biggest concern and ties directly to our half court woes.

Posh and Wusu have terrible form. Jones will shoot better and I would even give you Curbelo.
But honestly was pushing for Storr to absorb all of Wusu Mins but now think he also has to eat into Posh/Curbelo mins

I think at the end of the season if curbelo is shooting 33% from 3 you have to be happy with it.

Jones has a nice stroke and looks good in rhythm. Seems to have low percentage when dribbling then jacking. Jones, Curbelo, Mathis, Pinzon and Storrs should be taking the majority of our threes. Everyone else has me cringing.

What???

I hope you're joking, if so, I apologize for this message, but if not, I'll let you know right now if I see someone post something I find funny, I'm going to reply to the post, select the laughing emojii, or whatever else I feel like doing to let them know it was funny. Not a single person took Boo's post saying that seriously, Posh had just missed an easy layup after a couple of turnovers and it was a joke, nobody actually thinks that.

That's like me trying to tell somebody they can't joke and say the referee looks like he's giving some home cooking or working for the home team after a bad call. Because there have been some refs that have been paid off and caught and there lives were changed as well. Didn't that one NBA ref goto jail over something like that? Regardless these are jokes on a message board, it's not that deep man.

Yea I've never seen a team play better in March than December. That almost never happens in college basketball. Everyone knows seasons are determined after the first 10 games. 😂

By your logic Creighton and Villanova's season is over as well. Both haven't played that good up to this point. But, difference is St. John's has 0 bad losses on their resume. We might as well go ahead and cancel everyone's season and say Newsman watched the games in December and seen enough, there's no reason to keep playing.
Of course, some teams get hot in March...while others that have had big seasons suck big time. Phillies in the World Series??? Where are the Mets? With us, I can count on a couple of fingers when we had a mediocre season then got hot in March. 90 plus percent of the time we're the latter. As I wrote, I'm hoping for a couple of upsets and maybe, just maybe, March Madness will be more than St John's fans mad about being the old maid yet again.

Making Plays, have no idea how old you are. However, those in the age bracket of Fuschia and I would never joke, especially in an open forum about shaving points. For what purpose, to get a laugh? Some shit just ain't funny.

I respect your positive attitude on this forum, but in this instance, I disagree with you.

Agreed Amase. Taking a step further, we need to run some offensive sets to get our shooters open if we hope to improve from outside. Pinzon, for example, seems like one player who can become an effective outside presence if plays are run for him.

If anyone gets one of those Christmas sweaters, please post a picture of it. I would love to see what they came up with.
Never got one because a lot of selfish grinches took several, instead of one per person, disappointing many of us who were incentivized into going to a ho-ho-ho-hum game.

There was a game early on where the announcer said that CMA wants Pinzon to look for his shot more. That he has done. CMA would not have made that demand unless Pinzon was lighting it up from deep in practice. His form is good and he could develop into a 3 point threat. Who would have thought that Earlington and Greg Williams would ever have a season where they would finish around 40% from 3?

The one thing that gives me some cause for optimism is that Wusu & Posh are clearly in shooting slumps where their confidence is down. Wusu shot almost 100 threes last year at 38% and Posh while not a 3 point shooter was a very effective shooter overall and no reason to think they won't come back to what they've shown an ability to do. I still think we can have a solid year but only if the backcourt play improves and Fl. State game is a must imho. Storr a real bright spot from last night and love the fact that Jones is helping Soriano on the boards.

Panther, I'm 35. And I respect your opinion on here a lot. However, I don't agree with selective monitoring certain things people say, especially if they didn't mean any harm when saying it. I'm the last person in the world to agree with something Boo posts, however in this situation, telling a grown man he can't make a harmless joke during the heat of the game, that's a bit much.

For example, I told a poster a while ago, I try to to call anyone crazy, insane, or use terminology like that because I have a family member that suffers from a mental illness, and those are trigger words for them. However, I'm not going to tell someone else what words they can't use, that's unfair, IMO. I also used an example of people suggesting refs are being paid off after a few bad calls, that's a pretty big accusation with prison consequences, but it's literally joked about very often, announcers even joke all the time and say that's "home cooking" right there, and that's actually a felony if a ref was doing that. Also, before the whole NIL thing, how many times were people suggesting kids were getting paid under the table by certain schools, that's wire fraud, there's people in prison for that right now.

So my point is, if we're going to start monitoring jokes then we have a lot of stuff that needs to be addressed. Me personally I'm of the belief I'm never going to tell a grown man what they can or can't do, and there's no issues with us as long as they don't call me out of my name and don't put any of family's names in their mouth. With that said, if the mods put a rule in place to monitor all that, and say no joking during the game about sensitive issues or however they wanna word it, I'll abide by the rules.

Making Plays and I are in complete agreement on this.
