New ACC and MSG Rumor

This is exactly why SJU should not have scheduled Syracuse at all. Should have let them rot instead. The less they get to play in the CIty, the better for us. That will ultimately hurt recruiting. Not now, but once Boeheim leaves. I know they have their successor ready to take over, but there will still be a transition period. That and City kids not getting automatic games at MSG, will hurt Syracuse with City recruiting a bit, imo.

I never cared about the idea of playing Syracuse once they left the Big East. If we played them, then let it be in a preseason or postseason tournament. I would've never placed them on the schedule. There were plenty of other good programs or teams we could've placed on our schedule besides them.

I will be holding my breath over the next University president hire, as will the overwhelming majority on this board. SJU is in a unique situation where it can be a major player in the direction of the new Big East. All the University needs is a forward thinking AD who is not afraid to take charge and make decisions that benefit the University. The next person must be everything our current AD is not.

That's assuming the new President brings in a new AD. Either way, I don't think that will be at the top of his/her list.

We may look back one day and thank Syracuse and ESPN for getting so much mileage out of this story. If the 9 other Big East schools are also paying attention to this, expect them to make the Big East & MSG thing a major priority. Something tells me that Fox Sports 1 will also have a say in this as well. I don't see them just laying down simply b/c ESPN is pouting.

I think the publicity is good, but as long as we keep MSG. We keep MSG and it is a public victory for the Big East, especially if we are having successful Big East Tournament draws. As soon as Boeheim retires, I think we should drop them from an MSG game and I think all Big East schools should. The best time to drop them is when they are scrambling to rebuild from losing their 1000-win coach retiring.

Asked about Atlantic Coast Conference coaches expressing a desire to play their tournament at MSG, Driscoll said he does not see that happening.

“We have dates locked in for a long time [through 2026],” he said. “We definitely have strong enough teams to sell the place out. Ours fans love coming to New York and we’ll do what it takes to get an absolute sellout.”

So the biggest baddest basketball conference out there wants MSG so bad they will consider playing their tournament BEFORE tournament week? With all the small conferences?

Have fun!

Someone has to be the warm up act before the headliners performs.

Interesting but this article which I just posted on another thread seems to contradict the Lenn Robbins article. It states that attendance is in fact a major factor in allowing MSG to get out of the contract. Who do we believe lol? I can't imagine that MSG would not have insisted on this from a business sense. On the other hand, if true, why did the Big East presidents agree to this?
