NET rankings
If we stay undefeated and beat Seton Hall on that Saturday, we will be ranked the next monday and have a potential top 25 showdown on tuesday at CA against Marquette
I am envisioning us winning the next three games and being ranked prior to the SH Game!!!! Additionally we should all now root for one of the teams we play from the NEC to win the conference and for Princeton to win the IVY.

There are now 9 undefeated college basketball teams; 8 are ranked, only SJU is not in the top 25. I hope this does not carry over to Selection Sunday. By the way, hater Jeff Goodman tweeted that there are 8 undefeated teams remaining, leaving SJU off the list and SJU fans, including D'Angelo Harrison and Marcus Hatten blasted him.

It’s ridiculous that we aren’t ranked at this point. We don’t have the strongest ooc schedule to this point, but it’s hard ranking some of these teams over us. We still have wins against the PAC, Big 10, ACC etc.

Johnnies have to earn respect for ranking. Big opportunity is to beat the Hall in BE opener. It is that simple.

Actually we have one of the weakest OOC schedules! If we win in the BE we will be ranked.

Although I think we deserve to be ranked (there are not 25 teams with better resumes than us), I'm okay with not being ranked prior to Big East play. We don't need an even larger target on our back when facing these opponents. Nearly all of our games have come down to the final 2 minutes. Who knows if VCU/GT/Cal/BG/etc played a ranked SJU if the results would be different. I just know we wouldn't be better than 9-0.

If we're deserving of a ranking, we'll get one after SHU (or later in the season if we lose).

For practical purposes, our season starts December 29.

Well, I wouldn't take our start for granted, as our OOC performance determines how many BE wins we need. Frankly, I'm surprised we're still undefeated at this point. I was expecting an 11-1 or maybe even 10-2 start.

That said, yes especially after last year Big East play is crucial and how the voters will judge us.

I'd actually say we had a legit argument to start the season ranked based on our talent alone. But we have to earn respect now. Too many close games vs bad teams isn't good optics.

My thinking is we should've started the pre-season poll with around 60-70 votes and around 30th place (a little behind where Marquette started). Then, as long as we kept winning we'd gradually sneak into the rankings.

The problem is we started with only like 3 or 4 votes. Also, I think all the talk of our weak OOC hurt us even when we played a very solid stretch vs Rutgers/VCU/Cal/GT. Since the AP doesn't really pay attention aside from Top 25 games, I'm not surprised we haven't gotten in. Maybe we'd be in if we were blowing out teams every night, but that's incredibly hard to do.

These AP rankings are a complete joke. For starters look at K State. They have 2 losses and have not beaten anyone remotely decent to start the season yet are sitting at 25?

In my view none of the ranking stuff really matters. Rather, the goal is reaching NCAA tournament — and then doing some damage once there. To reach these goals, it’s all about how we do in the 18 game Big East season (and possibly, if necessary, how we do in the Big East Tournament).

I remember Lunardi talking last year during one of our OOC games last December about our projected seed for last year’s NCAA tournament, — somewhere around a 9 or 10 seed. And then we went on to drop the first 11 Big East regular season games.

The season is a marathon — just have to keep perspective and eyes on the prize. . . .

But getting ranked does matter when all is said and done. If you are in the top 25 in both polls you are most assuredly not just getting into the tournament, you are getting seeded no lower than a 6. That means you should be playing a weaker team as opposed to being an 11-13 seed and playing up.

It also helps with recruiting and attracting a lot more attention from the media.

Don't stress over the rankings now. The real fun begins in a couple of weeks when everyone is playing Conference games and those teams playing nothing but cupcakes start playing real competition. That is when you start to pay attention and the jockeying for position in the polls really begins. Today's polls and mid February's could be quite different.

True but that only matters in March, not in December/January.

Finish off the remaining Magnolia Bakery Cream Puffs and win December 29 and being ranked won’t be an issue anymore
