NET rankings
Georgetown's NET ranking up 10 spots to a season best 71 after last night's win against Villanova
And that means, just as Zach B said, that January 5th is back to being a Quad 1 victory for us, for now.

Our last Tournament (2015) was very anti-climatic even before Selection Sunday. Of course, we had the CO disaster, .
.
And the one before that with the DJ injury in the BET.
We lost a key player right before our last three trips. Willie Shaw in 2003, DJ in Lav’s first year, and Obekpa Lav’s last year. Of the three, I think Willie was the only one to cost us a win.
2003 was an NIT year. 2002 was an NCAA year barely. Very mediocre team. Essentially a one man team. Shaw was suspended and he was averaging 6.8 pts per game in 2002. Not even close to the impact that DJ Kennedy had on the 2010-11 team. I agree that Gonzaga was a bad matchup in Denver either way but if SJU improves a seed line they don't play Gonzaga.

Heck, if they would have lost that travesty of a Big East Tournament game to Rutgers (talk about an officiating disgrace - that one just went our way) and dropped a seed line, we probably would have faced a better opponent (for us) then Gonzaga, especially since DJ would have been healthy (he got hurt in the next BE Tournament game).

The bad news: St. John's falls to 48 in NET rankings. The good news: Yesterday's loss is a quad 1 defeat and team now has 6 Q 1 wins with Georgetown moving up. #sjubb

Andy Katz now has Georgetown as the last team in, despite them being #69 overall.

Honestly, I think Q1 wins will be a lot more important than NET, and that will work to our benefit. We have the big wins, so now we just need to get another couple wins to clinch a spot.

Getting in Dance certainly seems more likely than not, but with some impressive wins this year I expected to be in, but hoped we could maintain momentum and get a decent seed. Clawing to finish line and not achieving that seems like opportunity lost to make a little noise there. I realize just making Dance at SJU is a plus, but wanted this Tourney window of opportunity to have a very nice outcome with a win or two. Still time to make a run in next four games, but we’ll see.

In meantime let’s avenge SH debacle and send them reeling with Nova and Marquette still in wings for them.

I hate to say it, but I already feel resigned to the fact that that we're going to end up in the 8/9 game or 7/10 game in the NCAA tournament and have no chance for a long run there.

Since the upgrade in opposition, the start of the BE, a long run for this team is two games. For whatever reason they just can't put together a run of good basketball. It appears the reason is not lack of talent but that after playing a good game a feeling of superiority sets in and a lack of effort is very noticeable in the next game.
I don't know how you correct this attitude but assuming SJU can earn a bid this thinking, if continued would result in quick elimination in tournament play.

Probably true, but at this point I'd be delighted with a 10-8 BE finish, making the BE finals and winning one game in the NCAAs, especially since it's been almost 20 years since we've done the last two items. Imo all three of those are still very doable, assuming we win tonight.

Give me 1 ncaa tourney win and my cup will be full.

We potentially clinched a spot after this W, but definitely need one more to feel safe. Two to feel really, really good. Great job!

I know it really doesn’t matter but In a lot of ways it means much more than just the win. Solidifies us as the clear number 3 in the BE and there’s just no way the BE doesn’t get at least 3 in.

ESPN has moved us up to "Should be in" for their Bubble Watch!!

St. John's Red Storm

In winning 78-70 against Seton Hall at the Garden, Chris Mullin's men faced their last at-large-quality opponent of the regular season. The Johnnies will now close with two games against Xavier and one against DePaul. If you've followed St. John's this season through its highs (a 3-1 record against Marquette and Villanova) and lows (being swept by Providence), you're prepared for this team to lose one of those last three games. That wouldn't be a disaster (well, the home game against the Musketeers is Quad 3 and the other two are Quad 2), and, more specifically, it wouldn't by itself be enough to alter what is increasingly looking like SJU's destiny. This team appears to be heading toward something in the area of a No. 8 seed. (Updated: Feb. 23)

We have 3 regular season games remaining.

Our odds of winning, according to ESPN:
Vs Xavier: 79%
@ DePaul: 56%
@ Xavier: 49%

Odds of winning at least one more regular season game and finishing 9-9 (or better): 95.3%
Odds of winning at least one more game (including BET- I'll give 50% odds for our game): 97.6%

So, basically I think our NCAA Tournament odds are at around 98% right now. This week was HUGE in putting us in a strong position. We were underdogs to both Nova and Providence, and for Seton Hall we were only favored by a couple points with Heron out. Oh yeah, and the Butler OT win last week was also critical. Massive 4 game stretch.

10-8 / 2-1 would be awesome, but I'd be satisfied with 1-2 / 9-9 too. We've just won 3/4 so I won't get too greedy. I've said in the past that my expectation is to make the NCAAT (excluding Dayton), and that certainly looks very likely at this point. :)

What is our magic number to lock up the #3 seed in Big East tourney? Want to get tickets sooner than later.

Tough to say since there's still so many teams in it. If we win 2 more then I think that'd 100% clinch a 3 seed. 4 other teams can still reach 10 wins, but if we get to 10 I believe we'd beat all of them in tiebreakers.

On another note, we moved up 2 spots in NET, from #49 to #47.

Let's leave no stone unturned, and have no regret. Let's just go 2-1 at the minimum, I think that's a sure bet.
I want Thursdays game, it's at carnesecca, and it would show that we could have back back strong games.
Then split at.DePaul and x. A win .Thursday and their most likely in, but nothing is 100% guaranteed u less they win w more I believe.

JUST SAYING NO REGRETS.
ESPN's Bubble Watch has a nice article on sub .500 conference teams:

http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/25923557/500-no-problem-2019#BigEast

NCAA tournament Bubble Watch: Under .500 may be no problem in 2019

Basically, just reiterates that a bunch of teams could make it this year at below .500.
This season has been the most erratic in sorry memory.
We’ll win Thursday.
But should we lose, both follow-up road games would be in grave doubt.
So, let’s take it one-game-at-a-time...and surprise the planet.
