Nebraska, Thu. Nov. 16, 6:30p, FS1, 570 AM

Hope the team remembers going 0-3 in the Bahamas tournament last year and is determined to reverse that in the tournament in Orlando (go in trying to win it but 2-1 would be acceptable). Great performance tonight just hope the team doesn't swallow the RAT POISON and become overconfident heading to Orlando.

What happened to Trimble tonight? Played a few minutes in first half, didn't return until 1:27 left in the game. To put salt on the wound he gets in along with Alibecovig. Heck, we led by 20 points most of the second half. Maybe it's too early to worry about this but this could eventually lead to transferring. Once again, we were blowing out Nebraska. Doesn't mean that he should have played more because of the score but he's one of the 8 players in our rotation. Am I missing something?

Terrific team basketball. The athleticism on this team is insane. I thought this was BA’s best/complete game as a Johnny. Defensively & offensively. Probably a blueprint into Mullin’s vision of how he wants too play.

Impressive win. Insanely athletic, fast-quick team that some times plays out of control--but I think that goes with the label.
Ponds has phenomenal potential and has dominated these early games. Praying he continues to be a force as the competition hits MAJOR level caliber.
As he matures, some of his scintillating twists /swivels with the casual spin toss at the hoop will actually 'land'. Won't that be a dream?
The team is playing intense, spirited, in-your-face, here-we-come hoops. They make mistakes, but man, I think they're very talented.
Simon multi-diverse. Ahmed showing some BULL. Owens macho energy and athleticism. Clark a steady force. Lovett still peaking and lethal quick. Yakwe is coming on. We'll need Trimble for depth later in season. Amar is Amar.
Very young. Still untested.
But this team oozes with promise.
Bring it on.

It’s game 3 of the season and your worried about minutes and transferring? The 7 man rotation was working. Trimble will get his.

We were killing them with speed, athleticism and having our way in the paint. Not Trimble's jam at this point. When we need his shooting stroke to bust a zone or his strength to handle a bigger guard posting us up I'm sure he'll get his minutes and will contribute to the team.

Hey in the Advocare Invitational, if we beat Oregon State and lose to Missouri and if Nebraska beats UCF and loses to West Va. is it correct that we would end up playing Nebraska again?

Looks like we found out early that we could beat Nebraska off the dribble. As a bonus they weren't big on boxing out so we got a lot of put backs. As a consequence assist numbers were down and Trimble PT went down in favor of SP, ML, BA, and JS who can all make things happen off the bounce.

The coaches and players so what worked and went with it. I will never argue with that.

Also my favorite play was when Lovett drew the offense foul when the opposing player rage pushed him for because he was dominating him and doing some talkin'.

Very satisfied with the win against a mediocre Big 14 team. Mullin kept all the right players in the game at the right times. Ponds continues to show why he is a 2ndone. Yakwe continues to play with the hands of midget. Overall a good win before a big test against Molloy Nursing School. It will be nice to see a St. John's team go 4-0 to start the season. My only complaint is that Chris Mullin continues to stand/sit at at the scorers table showing a total disregard for paying customers who have lean left and right to catch the action. Just as I thought I was getting too old to attend games Luigi is becoming a regular again approaching 93. God bless him!

Nice win against a bigger team . Nebraska shot very poorly even with wide open threes. Should be a good confidence builder.

What I love about Simon is that he knows how to play to his strengths. In other words, he maximizes the use of his superior athleticism. Very impressive start for a player off a long layoff that hasn't played meaningful minutes since high school. He meshes perfectly with Ponds and Lovett. Ponds has sneaky athleticism.Team overall has that nice combo of players with good hops and quickness, and advanced skill sets. While maybe true for a number of teams, we are one solid big, one Ty Grant, away from being a top 20 or better team.

Impressive win by 23, and kept them to under 60. Good DEF.

They were funning on Nebraska with those ally oops lol. Glad to see that change.

They can't get to happy and stay hungry, if they play like this then we'll be 5-0 going into the game vs. Mizzou.
Gotta keep at it and don't get satisfied.

On to Mollloy.

Fun night at CA

Simon really is perfect sidekick for dynamic duo & really makes a difference. Speed kills with these three. Team really hustled on boards as well.

We will struggle some nights, but this is an enjoyable team to watch. Ponds :D :D :D

Have not read posts here - yet - but was a the game with 3 buddies from the Brooklyn school years - two are SJU alums - sat 20 feet away from Louie - Brian Mahoney and Ron Rutledge were with the coach - my take:
1.energy!
2.quickness!
3.teamwork in the best sense!
4.CM very active in his coaching!
5.for whatever size an opponent throws at us with will throw these virtues #s 1,2,3!

as with recruiting, I feel good that we will win our share (and sign our share).
all the best

PS even Yakwe had a few positive moments and a happy smile on his face.

Best game I've been to in years. They checked off all of the boxes of what they have to do to be successful: share the ball on offense, everybody hit the boards, play tough D. Just an outstanding effort all around.

The only negative was foul trouble for Clark and Owens. Yakwe provided good minutes, but it seems clear we are going to need to get something out of Alibegovic at some point this year. Teams with legitimate big men who can score in the post are going to be a challenge. Fortunately Justin Patton went to the league, so we won't see too many of those.

If this group stays focused and keeps doing the 3 things from the first paragraph, they are going to be a fun group to watch. The next test is winning away from home, we'll see how that goes next week.

One other note: It is a real joy to watch a team where the players clearly all like one another, and where all of them are likeable individuals. Chris and the staff have done a truly outstanding job of bringing in high-character kids to play for St. John's and creating a great team environment and character.
