Ahmed was under control, D was swarming good, quick hands - creating lots of turnovers.... Rebounding was much better; it's all you could ask for.

It's amazing - the team did not shoot the ball well at all; but because the team didn't turn the ball over too much; didn't take any stupid shots, and had quick hands on defense, and rebounded aggressively - they ended have a large margin for error, and wining by a lot.
Agree 100%. Told my buddy at halftime that Mullin should point out that the team was not shooting well at all, yet had a 13 point lead. Why? DEFENSE!!!!

Thought we were very committed. Great win. Crowd started small (due to early start) but gradually filled out. Student sections did very good job. Atmosphere felt like old Alumni Hall days when we had a clear home court advantage.

I've spoken a few times with Anton Goff. He's flat out a great guy, a great fan, and not a pretentious bone in his body. He wants a new 7500 seat arena on campus where we can play the bulk of our home games, pack the place, and have a home court advantage.

It all begins with a dream, or maybe a vision for success.

This is a new old time sju.

From AD Goff's lips to Gods ears with the St. John's U administration the conduit.

If I had an extra 75-100 million dollars laying around I would pay for it.

7500?

What if we're a top 10 team most years, get to the sweet 16 5 times, elite 8 3 times, f4 twice and hopefully win a NC in the next 10 years. In year 11 will 7500 cut it?

You gotta go big, maybe 17 - 18K? If that's a dream then I'd say atleast 12K.

Imagine, we're #2 at Carnesecca arena playing #1 (Villanova?) with only 7500 seats, with maybe 100 standing room on each side, that's only 7,700 for #1 vs. #2?????? Sorry but that's not cutting it. There could be 10,000 outside that won't get in. That would leave our fans with a sour taste. Gotta go atleast 12,000 seats. If not then gotta play more at MSG.

First time I tried to quote on the new forum, sorry for the double post.

Would be lucky to sneak by zoning laws with 7500. 17-18K impossible and the parking, roads, and traffic on Union and Utopia couldn't handle it. Still can play big out of conference games like Duke and the like and 3-4 more. We usually have 17-18 home games so CA would still have a dozen or more games.

7500 to 8k would be ideal and play the big games against nova and georgetown at the garden. I think that’s what Anton is envisioning

We definitely. don't want bigger than 7500 seats. Want to do what we did in the 80 s. Play most home games on campus and have a real home court advantage. Avoid paying fees to MSG. That said, you still want to use MSG as a recruiting tool, playing marque games there. Nova Duke, etc. If we have more than 7500 fans wanting to watch us play an opponent play the game at the garden. We should have such problems.

First time at Alumni (now Carnesecca) was '62 vs NYU. Beyond all the comfort stuff it needs, I have felt for a long time that student filled baseline seating rising high at either end of the court was the discomfort element most needed for opposing teams and would increase capacity to just about 7500.

All recruits who sign with SJU make the statement that one of the main reasons was to play at MSG. That alone makes it imperative that we play a handful of games annually that can draw some twelve thousand people. If that means playing old big east rivals Syr, Conn and ND so be it.

Whether we want or don’t we will not be permitted by local zoning and building laws to have an on campus stadium which holds more than 7500, and I would think that we would be lucky to be permitted to add another 2,200 seats.

Before I moved out of town I was a season ticket holder for 36 years. I remember telling my wife that I wouldn't move unless I could get ST. Johns games on tv. As a loyal and dedicated fan I really enjoyed the games at the garden plus I knew how Madison Square Garden was a big drawing card for our recruits. Can't forget the game against G'Town -Ewing vs. Mullin, #1 against #2. Both teams go to their locker rooms after warm ups and while we waited each fan base chanted, "Let's go Redmen and let's go Hoyas." Eating at Bronco Charlies before the Syracuse game the chants rang out through out the restaurant. Don't cut the number of games at MSG.
BTW, we were offered $150 for each ticket to the G'town game while riding the LIRR to Penn Station. Wouldn't have taken $300.
