Nebraska, Thu. Nov. 16, 6:30p, FS1, 570 AM

Points in the Paint: 34-14 St Johns Foul trouble: Clark 4, Owens 4

Yakwe touches the sky with block

Could it be that we are actually good this year?!?! Loving the athleticism. Defense looking so much better. I hope Yakwe has a breakthrough. Seems like a nice kid.

a couple of highlight reel dunks for simon including one off the backboard pass from Ponds. Owens with 6 blocks. Defense and Rebounding a lot better but still a lot of open shooters. so far SJU +11 rebounding +42-16 points in paint.

Just for reference

Penn State basketball had a ken Pom rating of 97 last year ( blew out St. John’s by 25 on our home court)

Nebraska basketball rating is 98 ( got blown out at St. John’s)

That’s progress!!

The D was much better tonight. Coming together.
Still struggling to fill the house.

Ahmed was under control, D was swarming good, quick hands - creating lots of turnovers.... Rebounding was much better; it's all you could ask for.

It's amazing - the team did not shoot the ball well at all; but because the team didn't turn the ball over too much; didn't take any stupid shots, and had quick hands on defense, and rebounded aggressively - they ended have a large margin for error, and wining by a lot.

I only saw the last 10 minutes or so but that was the funnest hoops I've seen under Mullin not including crap opponents other than the syracuse games

Just got back from the Arena. A terrific night. Crowd was not anywhere near capacity but was extremely raucous throughout the game and gave us a huge home court edge. Defense and rebounding were great. We outrebounded a much bigger Nebraska team 50 to 39. Simon had a second straight double double and was the best rebounder on the court tonight. Defense in the first half was the best I've seen from a St. John's team in a number of years. All around effort throughout the game was outstanding. Everyone stayed within themselves and played very hard. Nebraska looked shell shocked at times with our athleticism, on the ball pressure and team speed. If we bring this level of effort and intensity all the time we will be very good and competitive most nights. There is very little to criticize tonight without being nitpicky.

Ponds, Lovett and Simon were all vastly superior to Nebraska's guards. Ahmed had his best defensive effort of his St. John's career. Owens played really well, was a force protecting the rim, did a good job on the boards and made great decisions. Yakwe had his best game this year by far and contributed on the boards as well as defensively. The team's unselfish nature and sharing of the ball creates great comradery amongst all the players.

Much to feel optimistic about moving forward.

Nice post. Instead of the useless weave we had under Lavin. We are passing well , looking for the open man, resulting in higher percentage shots. Good B.B. Defence and rebounding, our 2 weakness, were good today. Although Yakwe can’t make a shot, he contributed. Played good D, got rebounds and a block. We are going to need him considering the rate that Owens and Clark foul. Owens upped his game. Bash also played well. We get most of rebounds from Ponds and Simon. Nice team effort. Looks like we are going to go 7 deep . We have a lot of weapons. Milked the clock too early. Ponds is a star.

Agree 100%. Told my buddy at halftime that Mullin should point out that the team was not shooting well at all, yet had a 13 point lead. Why? DEFENSE!!!!

Thought we were very committed. Great win. Crowd started small (due to early start) but gradually filled out. Student sections did very good job. Atmosphere felt like old Alumni Hall days when we had a clear home court advantage.

We need better facilities but we also need more fans that get off their b...s. Only good thing about these 6:30 games is the crowd is younger. This place should be erupting. I am so pumped right now. I am just waiting for the second half standing in the upper tier.

Most enjoyable game to watch in a long time. Team played so hard. Happy for Mullin as well.

Too tired to read all the posts about this game, but the theme seems to be lauding the defense. Can't disagree ... and was especially impressed with Ahmed's defense. Thought it was really intense. Aside from that, Ponds continues to show he's a wonder. As for our three transfers -- Owens, Simon & Clark -- where would we be without them.
