NCAA Tourney Thread

Rick Barry's kid made two key foul shots (underhanded like his dad use to) and followed
That with a huge block on the apparent break away that followed.

3 SEC teams in the Elite 8. Not bad for a football conference. ;) :) Tarik Turner was on SNY Sports Desk the other day and was asked about Lonzo Ball and he stated that he likes Kentucky's D'andre Fox better. Disagree but 39 points later I am more of a Fox fan and wouldn't mind if Knicks wound up with him.

Yes, I was impressed by Fox as well. He is a quality NBA player for sure.

He's got super elite quickness, but his shooting is a disaster. Luckily, shooting is probably the most improvable skill set. Is he a good passer? I don't know enough about him. I'm also surprised with this quickness he was only at 1.5 steal per game in 30 minutes per game.

The other guard, Monk - is also hard to figure out. Is he just a one-dimensional outside shooter?

You can't play less intelligent defense than Wisconsin did on that play.

Now there's something you don't hear every day.

Yes you can, we did for most of this past season. I kept yelling the same thing last night as I did for much of the season, "STOP THE BALL". Alas, no one heard me.

Frank Martin took five years to build a team the right way. No one game and out.

I was amazed that this will be first Elite Eight for South Carolina, considering the great players they had historically like Kevin Joyce, Dunleavy, Roche, Winters, Owens, English, etc under Frank McGuire. Although I think in those days they were in ACC & only winner of ACC Tourney got to dance.

Good article by Frank Martin and his program at SC

I took LJSA's comment as being about Wisconsin who through the years under three different coaches (Bennett, Ryan and Gard) has always been referred to as being a smart, intelligent, deliberate and under control team. So Logen's original comment about 'less intelligent" is not something you hear about Wisconsin.

If it was about us, well that an entirely different story,

Sounds like your neighbors might have.

Agree, think it was the former (about Wisky) but if it was about St. J's he was being sarcastic. B)

I think that is why S.C. left the ACC. Those teams would be beat out by N.C or Maryland and be forced to go to the NIT. McGuire recruited the cream of the CHSAA to leave home. To the list above, I'd add Bob Carver, from Molloy, and Tom Riker, from St. Domenic's.

I don't know how anybody else here feels, but watching these games and the broadcasters, I have come to really like Jim Sparnakle. He knows his stuff, doesn't get involved in hyperbole, very straightforward guy, seems classy and smart as a BB commentator. Much better than the emotional Chris Webber and many other loud mouths. I must say I do like Raf who is good and also pretty funny.

Now before all the Duke haters come out (Sparnakle was an outstanding player for Duke) keep in mind, although he went to Duke he is a Jersey City guy and always speaks well of the Johnnies, I think he's a fan of ours. He works in finance in the NYC metro area maybe that's why, there are a lot of Johnny fans in finance in the City.

Plus, he may have pre-dated Coach K at Duke, who everyone on here hates.

Think of Sparnakle as Jay Bilas without the condescension and smarminess. Just as smart as Bilas, he just doesn't wear it on his sleeve.

They heard it all season so they are getting used to the nut next door.

Must be in the minority because Webber has drawn a lot of high praise this tournament from pundits.
