NCAA Tourney Thread

The teams successful in the Tourney seem to have a solid core of upper class Players, not all 1 and done types. Also, just as important these days is getting the quality 5th year grad transfer and just regular transfers in general.

A must for us, is getting a 6'10 or taller player, 240 lbs. Absolutely necessary in competing at the higher levels. And, somebody who can play, not just be a sub.

Recruiting Europe, Australia, Africa has to be part of a team's plan. Xavier, Butler, Marquette, Nova, Seton Hall, PC dont have a lot of HS All Americans, like Arizona, Oregon, NC, Duke, etc. Bluett said after the game, Arizona has some great players one on one but, we play team BB. Oregon has Dylan Ennis, a Nova transfer, older brother of Tyler Ennis, formerly of Syracuse. Announcers said Elder Ennis is 25. Doesnt the NCAA have age limits? Ennis played well for Ducks, though missed crucial one and one in last minutes.

Congrats to the X-Men. That was a nice comeback last night. They really hung tough when it looked like it was getting away.

In a "guards game" as some say, Mack gets it done without his best player, PG Sumner, a vet in Davis, integrates some freshman & notes "It's next man up time", have to respect this guy for sure.

Loved seeing Sean, Book, and Rawle eliminated!!! :p

Great stuff and huge win for a Big East brother

Bill Murray on quite a run with Cubbies and the X

Would love to see Isaiah added to your elimination list.

Hopefully he stays. Seems quiet on the Indiana front regarding other candidates, so I suspect they are waiting to throw millions at Mack a day after X gets eliminated.

I need Gonzaga to win to have a shot at the money in my pool, but if X pulls a miracle and wins it all, there's really no need to ever leave since Mack will have proven it can be done there.

Ennis is one of those rare 6 year players. Sat a year when he transferred from Rice to Nova then his first try at grad transfer year in Oregon he got injured twice, first in October practice and then again after 2 games back in December. They applied for and got a medical red shirt and 6th year of eligibility to play this year. Also must have prepped a year because he turned 20 in December of his frosh year at Rice.

Interesting to note that Chris Boucher, Oregon's other starting forward (averaging 11 and 6) who got hurt late in the season, is also 24. Mature leadership on that team all year certainly helped their team.

Great win for the BE and great to see another Power 5 team go down (with Alkins a non-factor)!

Having lost 6 out of 7 going into the BE Tournament without their PG, I questioned their even going to the Big Dance, but they've been on fire ever since. Great chemistry and terrific coaching.

Yep, terrific coaching on Mack's part, however I question Miller's lack of using both Ristic and Marhanan (sp). They had no trouble scoring inside. A timeout at the end of the game would have helped, perhaps Trier wouldn't have taken a three,, instead a pass inside to one the biggies would have sufficed. . BTW, I want the Big East to win.

UNC can't miss right now and Butler can't hit a shot

I switched to Baylor/South Carolina and saw SJU Logo as Host on the MSG floor. I almost forgot we were still a part of the NCAA. I wonder what exactly a host school does?

Lincoln's Rakym Felder having a nice tournament for South Carolina. They mentioned a couple of times that Frank Martin wanted a NYC point guard. Ponds has to be jealous.

Season Ticket holders were offered the chance to buy tickets to the East Regional. Gave mine to the only South Carolina fan that I know. Most were expecting Duke or Villanova to be there.

Had Butler in my FF, so second place is the most I can hope for in my pool. Once again, I outsmart myself.

Incredible finish at the end of OT in the Wisconsin and Florida. A mad dash and a running made three at the buzzer.

You can't play less intelligent defense than Wisconsin did on that play, ball inbounded in the back court with 4 seconds left and no one gets in front of the ball to stop it, turn the ball handler, or at least slow him down? Basic fundamentals just a thing of the past.

I thought they tried but he was to quick. In the press conference afterward Chioza said they did a good job of bumping him and slowing him down (I don't know about slowing him down) as his intention was to get to the rim or if On my way! one was open hit them with a pass but only option was to take the shot from where he took it.

You can say that about Florida by not fouling up by three and letting Wisconsin hitting a game tieing three with 2,4 seconds go in regulation.
