Samir Doughty looks very good for Auburn. It makes me wonder if practicing against him for a year didn’t and knowing how good he was didn’t factor into Heron’s decision.
Doughery averaged 7 pts per game this year Heron averaged what 16.5 as a soph heading into his junior year.
Heron did the same thing as a freshman too. With everyone coming back and adding Doughy his role wasn’t going to increase.

Heron may have been ranked 5* but he hasn’t earned that in college. Elijah Ingram was 5* and a McDonald’s All-American.

Heron was 2nd team all SEC as a soph on an excellent team. To suppose he was threatened by Doughty is just w/o basis. Whether he is 5* or 4*, he is miles above anything Doughty has ever shown - 7 ppg and 24 mpg this year w/o Heron around, hardly starter minutes or production.

Michigan State is so well coached and playing great but I do love watching the LSU PG.

Ct kid who came close to going to Georgetown until Will Wade arrived on scene.

Heron has a sick mom as we know and he thought seriously about transferring a year earlier but was talked out of it by Pearl. The thought of competing against Doughty my guess was not a big concern

Needed the Tar Heels - Zags from a bracket perspective, but don't mind seeing Tar Heels lose. Will root for Zags or Mich. State at this point. Not Kentucky or Duke! Would like Auburn but for their coach.
I know we were never in the running for Naz Reid and I recall there were mixed feelings on how good he'd be in college, but I have seen him play several times this year and he is an absolute load. Averaged 14 and 7 as a frosh for top 10 team and is just huge matchup problem.
There is a story about his in home visit that got cancelled that is both funny and shows the dysfunction of this staff...

Doughty has awesome %s. 10 pts tonight on just 6 shots...good ball-handling and some pretty dimes.

I know there’s some here who are still holding onto that record, so FYI if Oregon can pull this out it’ll confirm that the ACC can’t get 3 teams to the final four like the big east did in 85.
I'm not even remotely worried about it even with three regions still alive for them. Hopefully due to UNC going down in flames tomorrow.
Bump

He was going, JT3 got fired and he got out of his NLI.

Whatever, that substantiates your original speculation about Heron feeling threatened w/o a doubt....I'll leave it there.

What’s wrong with you? Where did I say that he was threatened? I said I wonder if it factored into his decision based on all the other talent 2-4 already there. Auburn has ten guys that play 10.8 mpg or more.

Auburn is objectively better without Heron. He had to feel his role being squeezed as it was with Dunbar and Okefe last year joining Bruce Brown and Harper. Would you want another good player at your position added to that?

Doughty is the fourth leading scorer on an elite eight team (ahead of two top 70 RSCI recruits and a projected second round pick) and Heron didn’t even get named to a Big East honor roll.

Here’s some light reading for you: https://www.google.com/amp/s/2...s-been-a-silent-MVP-for-Auburn-126237101/Amp/

Bruce Pearl on Doughty: “He does a little bit of everything, which is why his teams win. He doesn’t require to have to score the ball for his teams to win. He can have zero points and his teams can still win because he’s playing defense, communicating, has great energy. He’s doing a lot of things that show up on the stat sheet but don’t produce into his points. His teams work because he’s such a great team player and he makes so many winning plays.”

They scored 97 points with 5 guys in double figures and 6 guys who scored 9 points or more but the guy who scored 8 is the reason that Heron left Auburn for SJU..

And look who arrives. Is this the kind of company you want to be in NCJohnnie?

How foolish of me. The fourth leading scorer and minutes earner on an Elite Eight team is trash and shouldn’t be a thought for a player who was almost able to make a Big East honor roll as a junior. Forget the two All-SEC guards Auburn has and the projected second round draft pick as well. Forget Dunbar and forget China Okeke becoming an absolute stud as a soph.

Heron would have scored 25 a game. His 3 charges a game wouldn’t have been called and Auburn will never be able to get back to losing in the second round without him. No way they can be better.

Thanks for the response Marillac. I'll read your attachment and respond tomorrow. Long day today - admitted student college visit with my son, drive home and trying to stay awake for Duke game. No disrespect intended, just tired and your theory didn't make sense to me. Maybe it will tomorrow.

Then again, maybe it won't.
