Thanks. Anyone else losing sleep over this? I'm so anxious and excited I could not sleep last night.

If we were an 8 or 9 seed then yes I would be. But given the fact that this team has played like hot garbage except for the DePaul game down the stretch, I'm just happy to be in the tourney even if it was by the skin of our teeth. I have no expectations for the tournament. We just don't know which team will show up and if we will play with intensity or just be happy to say we made it and go home. I've accepted that we are a poorly coached and ill constructed team without a real big. The only thing that can offset no rebounding is hot shooting and driving to get the opponent in foul trouble. We also need to get lots of transition baskets. That's our game for better or for worse. If we go back to sluggish iso ball, dribble for 5 seconds then chuck a contested 3, we will lose. Simple as that really. Excited to be here but not holding my breath for anything.

Seth Davis / The ATHLETIC:

Arizona State (-1) vs. St. John’s, 9:10 p.m., truTV. This game features a bunch of guards who love to jack it up. Shot selection will not be selective. There will also be a lot of free throws — Arizona State ranks sixth in the country in offensive free throw rate but is 301st in defensive free throw rate. St. John’s is fueled by its uber scoring guard Shamorie Ponds, who ranks third in the Big East at 19.5 points per game and is 10th in the nation in steals (2.63). The Sun Devils will counter with 6-4 freshman Luguentz Dort (16.1 points), 6-foot sophomore Remy Martin (13.4) and 6-4 junior Rob Edwards (11.3). As has been the case all season long, the problem for St. John’s will be a lack of an inside presence. ASU does not have that issue thanks to Zylan Cheatham, the 6-8 senior who led the Pac-12 in rebounding (10.4), and sixth man Romello White, a 6-8 sophomore who made 59.3 percent of his field goal attempts while averaging 8.7 points and 5.3 rebounds. The pick: Arizona State

Interesting, considering some of the recent discussion on our board.

Chris during the press conference: "I am the only idiot in my family who decided to coach"

Refueling my jets as in rebounding from jet lag (apologize for ‘that’ Word!)
Chris’s acidic remark about coaching not surprising given the frustrating season, but it is revealing.
And the consensus pick of ASU over St. John’s is in keeping with our wacky inconsistent season and the team’s failure to establish credibility with pundits.
Let’s beat Arizona State.
1-game at a time.

Romello White was problem for STJ at Staples last year.

I'm sensing a problem from their bigs again tomorrow. We're gonna have to shoot the ball really well, frequently turn Arizona State over or both in order to win tomorrow. I'd zone 'em too death, and hope they chuck it up and protect us from foul trouble. But heck, I've been saying that for awhile. LOL

Hope we use the same D where Ponds freelanced the big down low in a double-team.

Totally agree with your comments, Dink, about an effective Zone and causing turnover havoc for ASU tomorrow as keys to winning.
But hoping and thinking their bigs aren’t nearly as troublesome for us as Xavier, DePaul, and Providence Bigs have been to us this season.
We shall see.

Earlier in the week a couple of posters accused SJU of quitting. This was followed by many coming in defense of the players. Now Ponds admits they went through the motions. How far apart are quitting and going through the motions? I don't know but neither one smells right.
Unless this team goes on a run which is extremely unlikely they will rightfully be known as serious underachievers who took games off.

I'm sure the "best players who are now coaches" article was posted previously... but Chris Mullin's face is on the front of ESPN.com. First thing you see.

Excellent exposure:

Not sure if it has been mentioned, but ASU PG Remy Martin strained his groin in their last game. Could certainly help if he's not 100%. Hoping Ponds can take advantage of that.

Rothstein;
Bobby Hurley tells us on @CBSSportsNet that Arizona State's Remy Martin (groin) went through every drill today in practice and should be 100 percent by the time the Sun Devils face St. John's on Wednesday
