A lot to take in and I have to run so I haven't finished the article yet. But a lot of familiar names from AAU and CHSAA/PSAL hoops, players and coaches, past and present.

Interestingly one thought I had was the fact that Moussa Cisse travels from Jersey City to CTK and if St. Anthony's hadn't closed, how much easier it would be for him to play there with a great program and coach instead of tracking across the Hudson one PATH and two subway rides to and from school.

If they are corrupt, are they really great coaches? Or just cheaters who felt they had to resort to playing against the rules and against the law in some cases?

Honestly, in baseball, steroid cheaters are POS. Not only did many rack up stats, but they kept players in the minor leagues who would never whiff an MLB roster because 40 year olds were playing like 25 year olds. Not to mention thousands of HS and college kids who used steroids as a road to prob ball.

Cheaters are the worst, and just one reason there has been a very long road to restore our program.

About 45 major schools in the tournament with at least six coaches Miller, Izzo, K, Willard, Pearl and Larrananga named in the current investigation involving one sneaker company and three other coaches Roy Williams, Sampson and Calipari having past troubles. Don't know how many I missed or how many others committed violations with other sneaker companies.
Pretty much a cesspool.
 
Every coach will be implicated in the NCAA and nit and therefore we will win the national championship this year

Wow what an a.azing article, thanks for sharing. Just can't help but keep thinking about how many players we missed out on who wanted to come here but didn't because we play fair.

CTK has a long history of literally poaching players from other schools to attend their school. I'd be pretty certain that tuition is never an issue for top hipsters.

The great Kaz was convinced to transfer from Sachem (about 45 miles away) to attend CTK. it would have created Rolls Royce backcourt with Sue Bird. They told Jax anything to get her there.

Once at CTK, after practice a few days in , Jax asked why she wasn't running the point. They laughed at her and said "Are you kidding? Sue Bird plays point." Nicole went back to Sachem.

Tragic story of Nicole Kaczmarski, who everyone, including an overbearing dad, wanted a piece of her. She went to UCLA in a much heralded decision. Some said to get far from her dad. Her frosh year yielded what was deemed to be a disappointing 10 ppg. She left UCLA and eventually quit school and basketball. I hope she's happy now.

Players are simply commodities. Once their value us gone, the system spits them out. Our tragic guy was Rysheed. Perhaps a victim of his own bad decisions and horrible life, few of us feel sorry for a kid we cheered, yet now languishes in prison. Maybe just maybe he is a victim of a system that creates kids who become nationally known names befire they graduate high school. Few ate prepared to deal with it and still focus on school.
 
Speaking of coaches, it seems one of our former coaches ( Lavin) seems to still hold some negative feelings towards Mullin.

I remember Kaczmarski story. Definitely a cautionary tale and a player who became burned out (“as in not wanting to play anymore) despite her success because of all the pressure on her. I believe she did play for a short time professionally and she had something to do with St. John’s a few years back broadcasting some woman’s game and I think doing a bit on the woman for the Redstorm report.

Curious, but why do you feel that? In general, Lavin has been very supportive of our program, and I've never read a hint of a shot towards Mullin. My general feeling is that Lavin handled it well, spoke highly of our program in broadcasts, and liked his time here. I think he knows coaches are hired to be fired, and my impression is that he's probably happier behind a mic where he doesn't have to work so hard.

Kaz was waiting tables for a while after basketball, and was happier doing that than playing ball, so that pretty much tells you how burned out she was on the sport, which is a damn shame.

Side note: Her sister was one of the first people I met at NYU. Coming out of Chaminade, I was so excited that a girl was actually talking to me.

I can relate to that 100%, LJSA. Coming out of an all-boys Catholic HS in the mid-1960s, one of the reasons I opted for St. John's over Fordham (the other reason being my love of Redmen basketball) was having the chance to go to a college that had coeds -- if not to talk to them (I was pretty awkward that first year), then at least to look at (which I did a lot of). As it turned out, I eventually came close to marrying one of them before she dumped me. :( On the plus side, I still have my passion for SJU hoops.

Thomas More opened in 1964 as an all-women’s college on the Rose Hill campus. But that was the year I graduated high school, and when Fordham was still perceived as an all-men's school. Then in 1974, Thomas More merged with Fordham College. As turned out, when I started at St. John's I had no idea that women were admitted to all the SJU schools except St. John College, which I transferred into after my freshman year. So, although I did get to attend mixed classes in the business school in my first year and got to know and hang around with a number of girls, I spent my remaining years in Catholic HS-like all-male classes. Oddly, women were allowed to take “night school” courses at St. John's College. So after meeting my then-dream (later-nightmare) girl, we ended up taking a number of night classes together. As for your aunt, I have no explanation, unless maybe there were some special allowances for females in the 1950. (After all, I'm not a Fordham alum or historian, and besides, it was all so long ago.)

Your aunt likely was enrolled in St. Thomas Moore which was to Fordham what Barnard is to Columbia essentially back then.

Your aunt likely was enrolled in St. Thomas Moore which was to Fordham what Barnard is to Columbia essentially back then. If it was the 50's she was likely a high school girl trying to meet college guys after school.:p
