Murray St Official Game Thread

we lost this game, the refs sure did not help but when you allow wide open corner 3's on numerous occasions you are asking for trouble! I think we are going to be a great team when all is said and done but poor execution in the half court was extremely frustrating. I'm very upset with this result because there is no doubt in my mind we are the better team and i don't think its close. Murray State was allowed to hang around because of the refs, and with our lapses defensively they took advantage.

The refs were terrible, but this loss will help us. This was a case of the experienced team knowing what to do down the stretch and the inexperienced team struggling. We were the better team today, but nothing to show for it. We need to pick up our heads and get after it on Sunday.

Execution was awful in the last minute. The addition of branch should really help. Harrison will be seeing the box and one plenty. He is the only one who can score off the dribble and score beyond 12 feet. I'm sure Bourgault can, but he will need some time to get in game shape. There is so much athleticism on this team, but we are behind the curve in scoring in the half court game. Also failed to get back in the last 10 minutes. Looked like a lot of tired legs out there.

Our defense is much different with Pointer on the bench which he has been for most of the half.

I agree, his offense isn't good but he's great on the top of the matchup.

Harrison forced way too many shots. Thought Lavin should have put Felix and Marco in to loose up the D a little.

Unreal.

D'Angelo can't do it all by itself out there. Some may say he forced shots but Phil wasn't doing anything worth writing home about.

Jakarr had a great first half but he made some real boneheaded mistakes in the second half. And Jones may have worse hands than Gift.

We need a true PG in there. Not a combo guard. I love the improvements Phil has made but he did a poor job of running the offense tonight. D'Angelo can't be primary ball handler and primary scorer at the same time.

Murray State won the game fair and square. After trailing the whole game they stepped up their defense
in the second half and contested beyond the three point line and ST John's could not beat them off the dribble.
This gave them transition baskets where they found the uncontested open three point shooter and they buried it.
Now you know how this team won 32 games. Daniel owned the boards at the end of the game. Disappointing
but now you play ranked Baylor just like last year when they had to play ranked Texas A & M in the 3rd place game

Blaming the refs is silly IMO; that game was there and we gave it away.[/quote

I agree. The game was there for the taking. I also agree that Phil and D-Lo need a break. If we had our full compliment of players we win this game. If Bourgault had a few games under his belt he would have been a factor from 3pt land and that would have helped us. If we had Branch who is a true point guard it would have helped against the Murray St. pressure and if we had Sanchez as another body inside we win this game by 10 pts. We still should have won anyway.

Blaming refs is silly? Did you watch the game? It honestly looked fixed at some points. D'Lo was hit in the face, shoved, and almost knocked to the ground RIGHT in front of the ref! No call. So it came down to 5 points...the last 2 minutes of the 1st half are what lost us this game. The refs let them run wild, then they found a cheat code hitting every 3. What a BS game. I really hope the media points out how terrible the refs were because they just cost a big game. It's infuriating because you know they know they got away with a ton. Every out of bounds play, a 3 followed. It was to the point where they might as well close their eyes, chuck it up, and have it go in as a swish. Now we get killed by a Baylor team and we are suddenly 2-2. Not only should we have won this one, but now we will pay double by drawing an even harder opponent. I'm jealous of all the other major teams playing cupcakes while we play legitimate NCAA teams that can make deep runs. Every loss in OOC play means more pressure to win a lot in the Big East and that's near impossible.

I guess this is a preview of what to expect this year

No, it's not. This is the third game for a very young team. They will learn and get better.

We looked tired down the stretch. That's how guys get open... your defense is 2 steps slower getting to them.

It's our third game in 4 days.

No excuses. The staff has a lot to work with these guys on. But we will learn from this. Thats not lip service, it's true in this case.

I don't agree with everything you've said, but it seems perfectly legitimate to be angry at the refs during this game. The baloney calls at end of the 1st half killed our momentum, and then the calls in the 2nd half gave the opponent a clear advantage. we didn't play well to close the game - but that doesn't mean we can't be angry at the ref's really bad calling of this game.

The refs sucked(Teddy Valentine, whaddya expect) but that's not why we lost. Team looked tired and made a lot of dumb turnovers and poor shot attempts and tried to have Harrison do everything. With the bench we have we should be able to get our key guys enough rest to be fresher down the stretch of games and for God's sake lets get everyone involved instead of standing around waiting for Harrison to make a play. Aggravating loss

16 turnovers???? Can't win with that. 5 three attempts in the last minute; ; we might have won if we could hit one.
Biggest laugh was RedStorm Johnny posts on ESPN's thread "Conversation 367" during the game. He made every fan of StJ sound like a moron and a low life at that with his dozens of taunting posts. The MS fans are still rubbing in the salt now as he continues to foolishly claim that the refs won it an dthat we "won" 80% of the game!.Someone get a gun. I am a little bit embarassed; Good game Murray State.u have some really good long range shooters when it counts. .

no foul on Harrison at the end? looked like it.

we sucked in the 2nd half - but the refs had it out for us.
and we have no one else to blame,

but the calls were f*cking b*llshit

YOU HAVE To BE KIDDING ME WE GAVE THAT GAME AWAY We have Marco sitting on the bench and we are looking around to try and get Harrisson free for a 3 No one on the floor coach could shoot a 3 ? /Then why not have marco in the game for the final 60 sec Perhaps Harrisson would have not been doubled or tripled they would have had
to pay attention to Marco who could knock down that shot

Tonight, we lost a GOLDEN opportunity to really put an exclamation point on the SJ brand. I noticed Harrison was livid tonight, but he had every right to be. If you're in there playing your butt off and they are hitting you in the face and shoving you with no calls it's infuriating. You know the refs really were awful because Lavin almost got a technical for yelling. Lavin is not that kind of guy. What a fake win for Murray State...it's about as artificial as they come. We led for 80% of the game and even DOMINATED a lot of the time. Then it was refs to the rescue and the magic 3 ball. I don't think I'll live past 40 if I watch many more of these types of games.

Right; our unforced, cheap turnovers, lack of team offense and inability to identify and match up with shooters, not to mention trotting back on D too many times had nothing to do with the loss; it was the refs. Calls, good and bad are part of the game and our poor play lost the game, period.
