Murray St Official Game Thread

Harrison did not have one of his better games today. 27 points is nice, but the rest of the team stood around because he wasn't looking to pass - at all, in the second half especially.
He was drawing two defenders every time he drove with the ball, and was forcing mid range floaters when he had open teammates under the basket.

I thought the same thing...don't mean to kill a kid who played hard and made a lot of big shots, but everyone has to be involved...we have a lot of guys who can break down a defender and need to use them...

Very high on D-lo...and I know it is premature to judge him but not sure that he has the discipline and patience to be a point guard
Neither Harrison or Greene are point guards and that is not in any way to knock them; they are both good, competitive guards. Hopefully Branch will be the goods.
You are 100% correct
We don't have a PG on the floor right now
We need Branch in the worst way!!

@STJ_Basketball: Lav: "It was a punch-counterpunch game, where we threw a punch and they threw a punch. They ended up landing the haymaker." #stjbb

That's a cop out. Murray State did the same thing they did all game. Park in the corners and hit 3s. We did not adjust to that.

I just saw a stat that D'Angleo had a game high 9 rebounds.

Is he supposed to do everything on the court? Tell me this is part of his extended punishment.

Good call. Coaches did not adjust on the corner plays.

Since Lavin arrived we've lost a lot of games due to corner threes. I don't know whether more man to man solves that but spotting a quality team eight extra threes is a recipe for a loss. We were better but they were experienced and better coached. As we come together that will change but we have to solve that problem.

I told Moose, traczok, and redstormrising that we missed Branch last night. I think team is gonna do some damage this season. I'm still sticking to a 5th-7th place Big East finish.

Disagree.
A glutton for punishment, I watched the game again this morning.
They made some big shots when they had to and defended us well.
Last night, the better team won.

For 35 minutes it looked like a W.. Then both the offense/defense broke down.. As for x's and o's, I thought Lavin missed Dunlap down the stretch..

The Zone broke in the end, giving a great shooting team too many uncontested 3's from the corner..The offense deteriorated to strictly 1 on 1 basketball and 4 players stood around and watched..

I think Coach Lavin needs to realize he left 2 shooters,Felix and Mark Antoine, sitting on the hardwood during crunch time. Regardless they are role players. This was time to get that skill into the game.

All up, a good effort that could have been a W,against a highly rated opponent.

Agree with you on the big shots, but the better team did not win, the more experienced team won. We beat these guys a month from now.

Once again without DLo we get blown out.

DISAGREE he got 27 pts because he PEOBABLY TOOK 50% Think we tout him as the next savior and he has not shown he can carry the team on his back to a win

Please don't shoot me...my names not Joe. I'm a big time supporter of Lavin and happy he's healthy and back running the show, but the thought crossed my mind watching the team come apart down the stretch........what if anything Dunlap might have drawn up in the last 5 minutes of the game had he been there?

Don't know about that but I said this loss was on Lavin for the last 3-4 mins of the game

Good point MJ. I was thinking that Harrison wasn't looking for the guys and as a result they beacme spectators, but as you point out, he's a 2. Hopefully Branch will solve that.

Just throwing this out there but everyone seems to want to ride Dom because he doesn't average 14 ppg. But how about him not be able to play most of tonight. Ever wonder how the 2nd half would have turned out with him defending the perimeter?

Agree. He was the difference in the second half against College of Charleston. He is a hawking machine on defense. Sounds as if we needed him on defense particularly in the second half last night.

Iknow there are few on the board who feel that Lavin was out coached toward the end of the game and that we missed coach Dunlap. But, Lavin still has Gene Keady on the bench who is a hall of fame coach. I think this loss just came down to inexperience. I also agree that a month from now we beat this team by 10 pts.

Agreed, and just as a reminder for those who believe Dunlap would have made a difference last night, we did lose a few games last year down the stretch ('Nova, Rutgers) where we had the lead late. Chalking it up to inexperience makes more sense to me.
