Mullin Update

We should have seen some improvement in our play by now. We are awful and it appears we learned nothing unless we were not taught nothing!

Was just watching Ohio State's huddle with 20 seconds left in a tight game and none other than 29 year-old assistant coach Greg Paulus was holding the white board drawing up a play while veteran Final-4 coach Thad Matta was sitting empty handed. Matta must not have a clue what he's doing out there.

Thad deserves that latitude.

Mullin: “We’ve got motivation for I think the next 30 years.” #sjubb

Does that mean he'll be here that long?
It would be great to see, since would mean that he is very successful here.

Apologies if this article by Zags about Chris's first season was posted elsewhere:

Article in today's NY Times.http://www.nytimes.com/2016/03/10/s...-finds-there-is-a-lot-of-work-to-do.html?_r=0

Excerpt:
Vin Parise, a Big East analyst for Fox Sports, said he thought Mullin fared better than his record would indicate, noting a hard-fought loss to Seton Hall on Feb. 21 that showed development. He added that the effort from the St. John’s players all season was an indication of their desire to compete for him.

“To me, it was obvious when you look at their eye contact and facial expressions when he’s talking to them,” Parise said, “and they respect his opinion so much.”

But, Parise added, in a league that is largely dominated by veteran guards, St. John’s lack of experience in the backcourt was evident. The team finished last in the league in scoring average, field-goal percentage, rebounding margin and turnovers.

“They’re very young, and it showed offensively, playing this many young kids,” Parise said. “But I think the one thing that Chris showed is that his teams are always going to bring it in the effort department.”

Thanks PS Monte and others

To repeat what likely has been posted elsewhere... drumroll....

Chris Mullin promised the best conditioned hardest working team...and successful recruiting...he never promised Ws, lack of TOs, missed free throws
Just the hardest working, best conditioned team which to me means = effort!

Our kids played with effort and heart. I appreciated that. Looking forward to the 2016-17 roster.
all the best

No place to go but up. Suffered the worst season and it's no surprise as they finished last in Big East in defensive scoring and also in turnovers. Staff will certainly revue and we will see what happens next year.

Mullin had three strikes against him from day one:
1. Getting hired in late Mar or early Apr and not having a relationship with the current high school coaches in the area
2. Having almost nothing returning from last year's team
3. Competing in a top level league

Not to mention no coaching experience.

Was just listening to Steve Kerr discussing coaches like Tom Thib and others come by to watch practices and soak in what they are doing. Not a bad idea for CM and staff to take a few days in Oakland, definitely can't hurt!

they already had the Warriors on campus earlier this year. Thib is out of a job, Mullin isn't

Thibs is a veteran successful coach at the highest level. Mullin isn't.
