Mullin as Coach

Dear St Johns Ticket Office. I'd like to renew my season tickets now so we don't get screwed on seating especially at MSG.

Sincerely

Mjmaherjr sect 114 msg

You'll end up losing your seats to a guy who requested that section in order to be near you.

HAAAAAAAAAAAAAA !!!! The ticket office was cracking up a couple of years ago when the garden got redone because our crew in our current section was writing in on their applications that they wanted to be seated with Mike Maher.

Now people just have to write they want to sit with the 114 crew. They will know who it is :)

Yeah, but only I was smart enough to find a way to guaranteed to be seated with Mike Maher! LOL

True. but you are pretty much a founding member along with kranmars since you used to sit right next to us anyway at Carnesseca. Crazy how that heppened

For Mullin's entire NBA career, I'd pick up the sports pages, and go searching for Warriors or PAcers boxscores.

I'd always hoped he'd end up in a Knicks uniform. A good friend who sat next to me until he passed away at 28 years old thought the Knicks would be better off taking Mullin with their lottery pick than Ewing (which of course wasn't going to happen).

Now he's home, where he belongs, with the torch being tossed downfield not by Lavin, but by Carnesecca. A kid from Brooklyn, even an Irish kid, should be eating linguine with clam sauce, not Cioppino, not Dungeness crab, and hanging out at Breezy Point, not the Wharf. I hope the celebration dinner is at Nathans.

Funny, I was a kid and the entire SJU team came out to Breezy Point for a clinic with the kids. The line toget Mullin's autograph was crazy! By the time I got to the front of the line, I had to settle for a photocopy! Lol that was 1983-1984 I'd say. God bless Chris! Welcome home!!

First thing he has to do recruiting wise is lockup Jorden,CO, Sampson and hopefully Diallo. It will be interesting to see what new names pop up. A lot of coaching changes.

He will hit the ground running.

Donnie Walsh:

“Mully’s coaching basketball every day,” said another member of New York’s basketball royalty, Donnie Walsh, who as the Pacers GM traded for Mullin. “He’s out there every day with guys showing them how to do things. He’s got a lot of knowledge. And he’s played for some of the greatest coaches there are. He’s definitely qualified.

“From St. John’s standpoint, he’s a great get. He’s the kind of guy who identifies the whole program. He was one of their greatest players. He went on to be a great pro player and he’s a really good basketball man,” Walsh said of the original Dream Team member. “He’ll be great at it.”

This is the right guy at the right time for the program it's that simple.

What's the one issue everyone likes to take up with Redmen fans? That we live in the past. Finally, this hire is the only way we can truly find out if we can get back to around that top level. No I'm not saying UK, Kansas, Duke, etc. But the goal for most of us has always been to be a consistent top 20 team in the tournament almost every year.

There's no other person in the planet other than Chris Mullin who can solidify what we've thought all along about ourselves or completely change our own self-perception forever. Chris will be a class act no matter the result and someone we can all rally around.

Nice!

Out of context.

"This will win the press conference, but it won’t win the Big East,” Repole said. “There’s a lot of work to be done.”

[...]

“It’s an exciting time in St. John’s basketball, Chris gives the program and university credibility,” Repole said. “My hope is the university gives him all the resources and support to be successful.”

I did not draw that conclusion Chris. I hear he was a Masiello guy, but I interpreted his comments positively;

“It’s an exciting time in St. John’s basketball, Chris gives the program and university credibility,” Repole said. “My hope is the university gives him all the resources and support to be successful.”

Who knows, but as Moose said to me last night, differing factions will rally around a guy like Mullin. Succeeding is another thing, but I would guess Repole & others with alternative candidates in mind will buy in initially.

as a business man myself, his quote is self evident, it is all about results, period. It is just a first step, now it let's see what happens. Our past history doesn't trend positively, with all its fits and starts. Lastly how does the administration get behind the program. I say this wanting Danny Hurley, big time, but easily can get behind Chris, even with all the unknowns.

Agreed. When the euphoria dies down it will be about winning. But it's also about a winning program being part of the university brand. I'd find it hard to believe that Hurley, like Lavin, Roberts, Jarvis, Fraschilla, and Mahoney, could ever be the face of the university, or at least it's key ambassador.

After the press conference Coach Mullin should head straight to the McDonalds AA game and try talking to some of the uncommitted players.

Most of them are down to a few choices, but maybe he should go there and talk to Cheick and maybe say hey to our buddy Isaiah :)

It's a long shot but it's more about being visible at a national level immediately.
