Mullin as Coach

@NYDNHighSchool: Top New York City HS players would like Chris Mullin at St. John'shttp://t.co/UDi4yXgcLuhttp://t.co/gZAriDaebN

Alkins clearly stated that Lavin didn't recruit him. There's no excuse for that. How can you be the head coach for the only major D1 program in town and not recruit this kid???

Maybe one reason why he is now the "former" coach.

Agreed, just doesn't make sense. There's only a couple of gyms in NYC you need to be on. CTK is one of them.

Pray Lou can stay in good health to enjoy Chris being the coach.

One of my first thoughts after hearing the news. Every day we have him around is a gift.

The cards may fall in a way where we can be very good very soon--Cal winning it all and going to the NBA freeing up Briscoe, Diallo and/or Greek kid popping for us, CO and Jordan returning, Amar developing, Sampson staying committed, and perhaps even Minlend Jr. coming aboard.

If not, 2016 looks very promising with Salnave, Rawle, Atson, Ahmed, Green, Yakwe, and Gibbs locally.

You know, as I sat at the Carnesecca/Kaiser birthday party with two of my kids, JSJ, and Rino, we were uplifted when the raspy voiced Coach spoke not of himself, but of our wonderful tradition. He gave us hope in the current state of the program by recalling his own dark moments as coach. Everyone in the room felt the same - the man is a gift, a treasure to be appreciated as long as he is still with us.

But the bigger question was, who after him could carry that considerable torch of representing every good about SJU, not only basketball, but of Vincentian values and what his education here did for him?

I believe we found him. Not just for today or tomorrow. But for a very, very long time.

Decision made. Will definitely be renewing my season tickets! And I plan on being at the very first game, which I usually skip because it's an exhibition game. But not this year!

Chants of "LETS GO REDMEN" at the games in honor of Chris Mullin?
The king REDMEN

Excellent point! Absolutely!!

Other than a small concern about recruiting, my only other coaching concern would be how Mullin might react to watching Felix Balamou shoot a jumper. I mean that might actually physically make him ill. If Obekpa comes back, watching his free throw shooting won't help either. I guess that is why it is tough for great players to be coaches or managers sometimes.

And as a guy totally into working out & fitness, guess who he will also be concerned about? May be the best thing for this player to buy in, get in reasonable shape & show his considerable skills.

Pete Vescey once wrote that Mullin actually made a treadmill sweat.

Jayson Williams once told a story on how Mullin helped him workout in offseason and even though he loved Mullin the best part of his day was when Mullin got in his car to drive away.

This would worry me if it's true

It's ok, he is taking foul shooting form lessons from his older brother.
If you though Obekpa was scary....

Why, because Mullin was driving?

Good thing Mullin was smart enough to not have Jayson riding shotgun

What are the odds ADR weighs less than 250 by BE Tournament?

Jayson Williams tends to joke around, so that was probably meant tongue in cheek.

Also read a story that a sports psychologist was hired to help Jayson w his freethrows. He invited Mullin over and he helped him a lot ,and it only cost him a steak.
