(MSG) Villanova, Sat. Jan. 13, 8p, Fox Bus, 970AM

Factoring the Lovett situation into the equation , both , Mussini and Ellison would have gotten substantial PT this year . Wonder if our Staff wanted to keep them or , else told them Clark and Simon were going to get all the minutes ? Obviously , we could have Won a few of these losses , if we had either or , both Mussini and Ellison . Tough .

Simon has played poorly in the last few games . Turnovers , missed bunnies , soft passes , and not much in the scoring column . I think , based on the hype that developed last year , before they ever played a game that a lot more was expected from Clark and Simon . They are average players at best and have been less than expected . Simon has tools , except shooting but, 7 points last night was disappointing . Clark was a non contributor , 1 rebound isn’t what one expects from him . And , shooting 3’s and missing in 2 games , with the game in the balance was very disappointing . He had good looks , missed badly . But, why is he shooting that shot and not Ponds ? He doesn’t have a good handle going to the hoop either . Too bad too, he is a excellent foul shooter but, in 18 games has gotten to the line only 34-35 times ? Not good enough .

Agree with you but do think players coming in next yr we are NCAA bound and should be in the top 1/2 of the confr.

Next expect anything as a ST. John's fan. As I always said: "Expect the worst, but hope for the best."

No more excuses next year, time to put up or shut up.

No idea why i put next, meant never.

Yes, no excuses next yr for not making the NCAA and for not being near the top of the conf
However, if we are last by March we would prob have to play Nova again. Not good

Different result if we had better defended the 3, forcing 2 missed 3s and scoring one more ourselves. Team was much better this outing.

Not really. We would lose in the 7-10 game first.

Why do these small slow Italian-American guards with unpronounceable names from Villanova always kill us.

I am getting tired of losing to this team.

I think Nixon was President the last time we beat Villanova.

Darn.
I hear you but Divincenzo is like 6'5" not really small.
and he ain't slow and can jump out the gym

Many of the teams in the league have the same offensive ideas ( especially Vill.) .they have no intention of scoring on the drive, they will go down low draw 3 or 4 defenders and then pick the open outside shooter to pass to. If we had a dominant person down low, we would not have to collaps e several players down low . Can we develop some form of a 1-3-1 zone or a 3-2 to keep defenders on the 3 point line areas ?

Simon has played poorly in the last few games .... Turnovers , missed bunnies , soft passes , and not much in the scoring column .They are average players at best and have been less than expected.

Simon has scored in double figures four of his last five games including a double double versus SH. He missed a triple double by two rebounds. For the year he's averaging 11 points, 7 rebounds, five assists and three steals per game. He's shooting 46 percent from the floor and 50 percent from three. (By way of comparison stupid Missini who you can't go two posts without mentioning averaged 8 points, less than two rebounds and less than an assist per game while shooing 41 percent from the floor and 42 percent from three.) What exactly were you expecting from Simon? A quadruple double? The cure for the common cold? Average, good grief.

+1. Simon has been very good.

About the only thing Simon doesn't do well on the court is shoot the ball. With a lineup of Ponds, Ahmed and LoVett he looks better than without LoVett. His game will always be better as a fourth option and let's stop thinking that Mullin and staff are going to do anything more than improve his technique more than slightly.

Agree Enright. If Simon can get his FT shooting pct. into mid 70s and finish his dunks more efficiently next year, his other skills will more than compensate for his lack of a jump shot.

But who'll be at the 3 spot? From what we're seeing this year (now that LoVett is gone), unless it's someone who's a good shooter and isn't undersized, someone to take the pressure off of Ponds and open the floor, I wouldn't be so sure about getting to the NCAAs next year. Granted we'll have more size, but none of the incoming players -- so far, that is -- is a true SF.

I don’t think the staff plans on using a true SF next year, other than Marvin Clark. I’m thinking we will go with 3 guards and a 4 and 5. We will be deep next season at the big man spots, and we’ve had success with a 3 guard lineup.

And neither Clark (whom I like) nor Simon (whom I love) is a good outside shooter. Aside from Ponds, who's been erratic this year, who else will be an outside threat? And without another outside threat ...

STAFF had to no his foul shooting weakness. They had plenty of time to get him better. He is a good plater they should have him shooting at least 500 per day and supervised by a foul shooting coach like Mulllin, after all he was an over 80% shooter Foul shooting is mental and being focused, following thru and control tour nerves

Red, I firmly believe Shamorie is just having a bad shooting year because of shot selection. He was a good shooter in high school and was a good shooter last season if you look at his stats. Marvin Clark is a very good shooter. Mikey Dixon's stats are almost identical to those of Marcus Lovett and he is a very good foul shooter. Some of the fault is in the Mullin so-called pro free form offense. This is not a well drilled team in setting picks, sharing the ball and especially rebounding. That is where a good hard nosed teacher would help. Even a Ron Naclario " the teacher" would be helpful to this staff. They just have no one who has done this work before. I reiterate that being a great player does not translate into being a teacher.
