Five visitors tonight for St. John's: Zed Key, Lester Quinones, Alan Griffin, R.J. Davis and Adrian Griffin Jr. #sjubb
Wouldn't mind Alan Griffin as the final member of the 18 class. He is very talented and has good size on the wing.

Totally agree

Is he a three star recruit? Could you provide any insight on his game? Looks like he has offers from primarily mid-majors, but I understand that’s not dispositive.

In college B.B. today , you must have players who can hit the 3 with consistency , we have none . Ponds shot is off and Clark and Simon don’t give anywhere near what they were purported to be . They were suppose to be impact players . Sorry they are not .

Just saw we were 1-12 3 pointers Hard to think we can't hit 35-40 % With what we had basically no bench , not hitting 3s no inside game . We did a heck of a job .
This games shows the future is bright. It also shows we can be dangerous in the BET

Team played hard . Without Lovett , we have the weakest Roster in the BE . We made 1-13 3 point shots . Awful . Mussini still have eligibility ? Relying on getting much from Clark and Simon is a pipe dream . Ahmed must still not be 100 percent as he wasn’t any factor . I hated Clark taking the open 3 from the Corner when we were down 3 late . . He missed again . Decent look , shot wasn’t close . All we have is Ponds , rest of Team outclassed . Ponds still missing his deep shot but, without him we lose this game by a rout .

Ridiculous comments. Simon is top ten in the nation in steals, terrific on the boards and an excellent passer. He had an off game against the top team in the country.

Clark is not a star but he is solid. He had a terrible game.

Perspective — Remember, we played Seton Hall very tough without Ponds.

And the beat goes on. Offensive efficiency is putrid. All one on one. Nova made more passes on one possession than we made all night. Does anyone look at film on this team to see how poorly we play on the offensive end?

St. John's lost yet again in conference play and is 0 for 6 and soon to be 0 for 7.  We will continue to be basement dwellers with zero post season hopes.  Marcus LoVett was not invited to spend a luxury weekend in Manhattan with the team after his daddy wrote a note on Twitter asking coach to excuse him from gym class for the rest of the school year.  While the team was dining in the Big Apple Marcus was getting a pizza delivered and word is he didn't even bother to tip the delivery boy.  He is continuing his rehabilitation using an ice pack 6 times a day and learning Turkish.
As for the game itself I was proud of our kids for putting up a good street fight with the bigger and better Nova wildcats.  What some thought would be an embarrassing 20+ point blowout was surprisingly close most of the game.  Add this loss to the list of games against very good teams where having just one inside and one other outside talent would have made a difference.  It was a winnable game against the number one team in the country and that says a lot about the missing pieces of the St. John's puzzle.
Unfortunately tonight the missing pieces where already on the team and playing that handed Nova the win.  While it was great to see Shamorie Ponds play "his game" with drives and midrange jumpers reminiscent of his high school days and single handedly keeping St. John's in the game, the rest of the offense was offensive to watch.  Both Simon and Clark showed once again why they would never have started at Arizona and Michigan State.  Game changers they are not.  Bashir Ahmed was his usual "average" self and has never elevated his game for big games such as tonight's match up.  That Shamorie had 7 rebounds which was as much as all those three combined shows their lack of nose for the ball.
While some basketball minds here may point to our abysmal 3 point shooting as a cause for the loss I choose to credit the Nova players for easily finding Donte DiVincenzo for open shots. You would think that after the first two he hit Mullin would dedicate a defender to stick to Donte like glue and deny him the ball.  That it didn't happen does not surprise me since both Simon and Bashir were too busy missing bunnies while DiVincenzo was hoisting 25 footers.  I thought our bench did a good job but unfortunately Nova has 7 real Big East players and we have Shamorie Ponds.

Finally, is just me or does redmen.com slow to a tortoise speed after every loss?

We have to be the worst finishers on drives, just look to get fouled instead of concentrating on making layups.

Trimble played 28 minutes tonight with 5 points and 3 boards. Doesn't shoot much since we don't set picks for him. Finally made a move to the basket. I still like this kid.

I have to disagree with one of the post claiming Simon is an excellent passer. He is too careless with turnovers and soft erratic passes. Agree about his steals and boards.

Thought Ahmed and Owens were missing in action.

Hopefully Mullin will realize we don't have three point shooters, concentrate on drives to the basket and get to the foul line.

Can we please recruit athletes who can shoot.

Glad I didn't notice Lovett on the bench.

The inevitable loss at this point but they did play hard and represented themselves despite being short on players.
Got to believe they will win a couple of Big East games.

This year, to date, has been a nightmare. Yet, if we can begin to play under control and smart, the talent level and the grit—even sans LoVett— should translate into more than a few wins in the Big East and more than a few surprises.
I agree we should ‘freeze’ the 3-point shot, drive, draw fouls, and tighten our passing and offensive flow. No more triple-loop layups and spins with the ball stolen on the way to the hoop.
Let’s do it.
And yes, I’d play Trimble over Alibegovic all game.

I have been a St John's fan for more than 50 years. Normally, whether I am at the game or watching on TV, I am a "nervous Nellie" before every game. My wife thinks I am nuts and she's right. I take St John's basketball far too seriously.

Last night was very different. I was calm, cool and collected before tip off because I fully expected that we would be blown out. I was pleasantly surprised. This game reminded me of the first two Big East games this season when we played hard and really competed even though we lost.

I look at our roster. Our starting five players can compete at this level. We do not have a single bench player that belongs on a Big East court when a game is in doubt. With our style of play, it is inevitable that our five starters are going to wear down during the course of a game. At times, we have two or three bench players on the court at the same time, making it virtually impossible to score because we may only have one guy on the floor capable of doing so and the defense can load up on that guy. That's what happens when you only have a grand total of 8 scholarship players on your roster.

I will calmly "enjoy" the remainder of this season without fear of a heart attack. I now talk to the screen when something bad happens rather than yell at it at the top of my lungs. If we have a full compliment of 13 scholarship players next season. as it appears we might, I will have higher hopes and will adjust my expectations and demeanor accordingly. Until then, I will continue to calmly watch every game and root for our kids. I am also getting an education this season- I never knew that we had access to the Fox Business Network. It's fun trying to find these games on cable.

Exactly how I feel. It has been a lot more relaxing lately.

Yeah, Happy too, but despite a lot of encouragement, Matt has not pursued him aggressively & Seton Hall has unfortunately. His dad's connection there can't hurt either. We'll see.
