(MSG Holiday Festival) Iona, Sun. Dec. 17, 4:30p, FS1 970 AM

Have heard Ahmed is actually getting looks from NBA. I don't recall seeing a player airball more one foot shots that he did today.
Lol. Including a finger roll

Team plays great defense, which we haven't seen in some time. With a healthy Marcus, we can finish in top 4 or 5 of BE.

How did we ever win this game 0-12 from 3 and get out rebounded terrible shooting Glad we did not play a big East school
We toyed with them. We could get a stop anytime we wanted. We could get to the basket anytime we wanted. We got cocky.

That said, not one of Cluess better teams.

I have to admit I have no idea what to make of this team. Just a few things:
1- Flipping the ball at the basket is not a good play and may work against some of our opponents but given our size disadvantage against most teams this "habit" is going to catch up with us. On one possession, I counted Bashir "flipped" up or tipped the ball on 5 different occasions and never once came close to scoring. CM has got to get across what a good shot looks like.
2- I don't know when Shamorie became Curly Neal but please Chris make him stop. He needs to play more under control. On top of that the pass to the corner was the worst kind. Guys need to be made more accountable or we will lose games because of these types of plays. He brings great energy and talent but he needs to let the game come to him.
3- For the love of all that is holy . Amar commits an egregious foul giving them a 4 point play then comes down the other end and misses yet another 3. I don't want to know his 3 point shooting % please stop it.
4- Our defense is the most improved part of our team. The team plays hard. I think we could get better but my concern will be how we perform against better opposition.

Iona is terrible. I don't care what their RPI or whatever is. They are small, shot poorly and were a turnover machine. Cluess did not impress me as Coach but that is Iona's problem.

Simon - 37 minutes, 1 turnover, team only had 9. We stayed away from serious foul trouble and took care of the ball. One more win to go into BE season 10-2!

It was really 8 turnovers, because that last one was the intentional shot clock violation with the game in hand.

The other big number was the foul shooting. Iona was 5-10, and we were 23-27. That's the game right there.

5. Ahmed still out of control on the offensive end. I cringe every time he touches the ball.

I cringe every time he gets a double double
Rebound number is great (11) but double figure points of 12 is cringe worthy when you consider he shot 4-15 from the field which is 26.666% and 4-7 from the foul line which is 57.14%.

Ahmed brings lots of energy and effort and lots of mistakes. Have to take the good with the bad.

Progress made with zero turnovers (usually averages one traveling call per game with his roller skate fake 30 feet from the basket).

Like the 11 rebounds, although 3 were probably off his own missed chippies.

Some random thoughts:

1. We would have lost this game last year
2. Great defensive effort. Getting better and better.
3. Thank goodness for Simon and Clark
4. Great to see us at 9-2 with no "boneheaded losses" so far
5. Ahmed still out of control on the offensive end. I cringe every time he touches the ball.
6. Ponds needs to find his lost jump shot before league season begins. Ask Mullin for his key to the gym.
7. We need Lovett back in time for the league opener. If in doubt, rest him again vs. St Joe's.
8. I am cautiously optimistic. If we can stay healthy, we have the potential to be better than predicted preseason

And an additional "thank goodness" for another transfer, albeit one who played last year: Tariq Owens. Where would we be without them? (Probably closer to 2-9 than 9-2.) As for Ahmed, he no doubt makes some head-scratching, bad decisions, but he plays with great intensity, and works very hard on defense as does the rest of the team. Hope his judgment improves, but his intensity continues.

Horrible first half. Great first 8 - 10 minutes in 2nd half. The rest not so much.

Loved the “block”party.

Definitely not one of Cluess’ better teams.

Amar is getting a lot of grief on the four point play but from my point of view, the replay on the big screen at MSG showed the Iona player going up with an off balance shot and kicking his leg out forward while Aamar jumped straight up. The I on a college player’s leg came in contact with Amar, not the other way around. It was like the real good guard that played for Seton Hall who use to do that all the time and would get the call until the refs finally caught on.

Agree. Foul call on Amar was lousy call. It's easy for us to pick on him as he's having a harder time playing at the higher talent level of this team.

As for Ahmed, I would much prefer to have him on my side. He's a physical player.

Cluess did not impress me as Coach but that is Iona's problem.

Iona's problem has won 20 or more seven straight years and made four NCAA's out of seven season's in a one bid conference.
