(MSG Holiday Festival) Iona, Sun. Dec. 17, 4:30p, FS1 970 AM

good grief...a 4 point play to give them hope..by Alib, who then misses a 3.
You want to see our bench get some time and give the bigs a break, but to see Ponds pass on the 3, drive and then pass to a big who takes the 3 is frustrating.
Simon now fouls on a layup ...
we are determined not to run away with this game.
they miss their foul shots but we foul them again and again.

As you said NCJohnny, we are lucky to have Simon.
On a day when Ponds is off target and Lovitt is off court, it is great to have that third strong guard.
And Ahmed playing strong and under control with Owens blocking everything...it came together in second half.
Back to 12 point lead with under 4 minutes.

Good second half. We did what we needed to do. Key is Lovett's health. We need him to be a force in BE.

One more win and the "NCAA qualifying" season begins.
The first dozen games were to filter out the non-qualifying.

If Ponds can find his outside stroke and Marcus can find his good legs...we are going to just keep getting better.

Good second half...Chris and his team must have found the right words in the locker room between halves.

Another game we would have lost in the previous two years.

If you would have told me before the game we would have played without Lovett, got out rebounded 46-39 (and give up 16 offensive rebounds), not make even one 3 pointer and go 0-12, and have Ponds and Ahmed shoot a combined 8-27, I would have thought it would be a blowout. Yet, we found a way to win and meet the spread.

As an added bonus, Iona is currently 120 in RPI, and if they win their conference, could end up in the top 100 like they did last year. So this could turn into another good win on a neutral court.

Interesting that 4 out of our 5 starters today are transfers. We've used this to great advantage. Owens & Simon in particular have been great additions and upgrades over what we might have expected based on pre-transfer performance.

Doubt Ponds leaves this year.
More money next year or year after he continues to build his resume.
We could have easily won by 20 without that first half play.

Have heard Ahmed is actually getting looks from NBA. I don't recall seeing a player airball more one foot shots that he did today.

Simon - 37 minutes, 1 turnover, team only had 9. We stayed away from serious foul trouble and took care of the ball. One more win to go into BE season 10-2!

How did we ever win this game 0-12 from 3 and get out rebounded terrible shooting Glad we did not play a big East school

Played much better in 2nd half. Very happy for the win. But I think we have a phobia to big leads. That, and very choppy first half play all season worries me on the cusp of the BE season.

Good test for us. Unfortunately, depth is still an issue. Got to find a way to give the starters a longer rest.

Some random thoughts:

1. We would have lost this game last year
2. Great defensive effort. Getting better and better.
3. Thank goodness for Simon and Clark
4. Great to see us at 9-2 with no "boneheaded losses" so far
5. Ahmed still out of control on the offensive end. I cringe every time he touches the ball.
6. Ponds needs to find his lost jump shot before league season begins. Ask Mullin for his key to the gym.
7. We need Lovett back in time for the league opener. If in doubt, rest him again vs. St Joe's.
8. I am cautiously optimistic. If we can stay healthy, we have the potential to be better than predicted preseason

Ahmed , a man among boys , owens a Juming jack marcus a bull , Ponds was persistent , Simon a heady player .

The crazy thing was we scored 25 points the entire first half and 25 points in less than the first 7 minutes of the second half as we got to 50 with 13:07 left in the second half.
