Great win for Mullin and the kids. Announcers both kept talking about hard the team plays. They finally caught a break. Wonderful games for Shamorie, Ahmed (his best of the year) and Owens. Simon didn't score much but played a solid floor game and Trimble gave them a lot of valuable minutes. So happy for staff and team!
 
This was an entire team effort.

Owens ran the high pick and roll well in the 1st half and hit some big FTs late.
Ahmed hit a lot of big 3's and didn't get into foul trouble.
Simon played the single best defensive game all season. Plus he had a ton of assists. Also, he seemed to get the ball with 3 seconds left on the shot clock and his shooting % was the victim.
Clark was playing well and then 2 phantom fouls later and we had ...
Trimble who must have been in there for 20+ minutes and I couldn't have been more impressed with him
AA and Yakwe (who still looked gimpy) even made appearances and did what they could.

Oh and there's like a 6' pg that's pretty good.

Also, here are some fun things.
1. The refs took 6 pts off the board for us (two uncalled goaltending and a "foul" on the foul after Owens dunked it)
2. Duke had 11 more ft attempts.
3. Duke's bench outscored STJ bench by a count of .... 4 to 3.

and finally

If you took my STJ betting advice you won 5 out of 6 !
 
Unbelievable win!!! Kids played great and clutch. The seemingly underlying script--that of a Duke come-from-behind victory never happened! St. John's hung tough!
Now, just maybe, the team will cohere and gut out some gritty wins the balance of the BE Season and be primed for some surprises in the BET.
We shall see, but thank you for today!
 
Hats off to the team (players and coaches)! You guys have deserved this for while with the way you have been competing.
