Moe Hicks leaving SJU

explain why an Asst coach would leave for Moes .job since he has to get in line for head coach who is young Money??? Well glad we have him no matter what the reason for him leaving STL

As pointed out, money is one thing. But also, think of the visibility and acclaim Dunlap got by his association with St. John's, leading directly to an NBA head coaching job.

I dont know if this has been stated before but when Moe Hicks got the job, many posters were saying that his presence would be a great benefit to local recruiting. Well, looking at the present roster, outside of CO and Balamou, ( who I dont believe should be considered local products), I don't see any other players from the Metro area. Do you think that perhaps the staff was hoping that Mr. Hicks would have more of an influence bringing in local players as well?

The reality is that since we got Moe Harkless, there hasn't been that much NYC talent to go after. Omar Calhoun is really the only name that comes to mind---and he wasn't a pressing need because of D'angelo. Also, he was a Uconn lock before Lavin had a chance to recruit him.

isn't whitehead from nyc? maybe hicks was expected to delivered him. there are other good players from the area who aren't giving us a sniff.
our only legit nyc player is a walkon. that has to count as an underachievement.
hicks has an exceptional coaching record. most of you would love to have his future.

What other good players from the area who aren't giving us a sniff? Besides, Lavin has gotten his share of talent from out of the NYC area since he's been on board.

There was a very, recent poll where Lavin was rated as the #8 recruiter in the country (IMO, he's top 5). Do you wanna know who voted him #8? His peers.

He lands talent, regardless where they're located. Frankly, that should be all that matters.

Didn't his hiring cost us a shot at Kadeem Jack?

Absolutely it did but what has Jack done at RU?
i would take GG, CO,JS, MH,SDP any day of the week over Jack.

no one is complaining about lavin's recruiting. i prefer the national approach rather than the subway token bs we were fed in the past.

in lavin we trust.

Oh, okay. Just wondering.

I agree, in reference to your national approach moreso than the approach of yesteryear.

He has done JACK! :) Actually after not playing for what a year or so thought he started to show some improvement but no he hasn't been a world beater but he was pretty highly thought of in high school if memory serves.

Never thought of Jack as an elite player coming out of high school, but he's a solid 6-9 and showed a good deal of improvement as last season progressed. (He finished with just just under 6 ppg & 5 rpg in 18 mpg.) With a full season under his belt and a new coach & system (I thought Rice used him very erratically), I expect him to be an important player for Eddie Jordan this year and next ... not an all-conference or top-tier, but a solid forecourt presence.

Getting to the point: I wasn't suggesting that our missing out on Jack was a big blow to the program; only that he was probably the only "name" player who was off-limits to us because of Hicks's hiring.

Momo Jones too

Momo Jones too

By a ridiculous technicality. We had access to Calhoun and Bernardi who Hicks coached one season prior but didn't have access to Momo who was a lot more years removed.

Bridge burned?

Next Kimani Young?

Looks possible. I've been trying to search New Heights roster to see if we're recruiting anyone from them, but I can't find the active roster.

How many bridges has Lavin burned? It's not likely. Hicks had a good job here for a few years.
