Mikey Dixon Transferring

Also, what's done is done but he used up a scholarship all last year that could have been used on another player for a team that barely had seven guys. I'm all for transfers being part of the mix but it would seem that sit-outs need to be guys who clearly have a role when eligible.
Not sure Carreher isn't the same problem, but hopefully my suspicions are incorrect and he can make an impact.
Never liked this signing (nor Carreher's for that matter ... nor, going back some time, Alpha Bangura's). Odds are these lower-level "stars," are never going to make a big impact when they start playing on a higher level. To paraphrase Pete Seeger: "When will we ever learn?"
Rowsey averaged 20 ppg after transferring from a small team. Ja Morant is a lottery pick for Murray State this year.
Carreher is a player. More size, less quickness, high basketball iQ and an excellent shooter. Spending significant time working on driving to the hoop and improving pull up jump shot. With a penetrating point guard and an inside scoring presence he will fit in very well.
Well with all of the good news you knew the other shoe was sure to drop.

Hurts us depthwise but if we stay healthy and Williams really comes on no problem.

Heron will be gone after this year to make money somewhere. He still had half a season and I am expecting a more comfortable and exciting player. And, who thought at this time last year Ryan A. from Nova was a first round NBA pick let alone coming out early and being one?
Think you mean Dante DiVincenzo.

I did specify "odds are" -- and given our track record with these types of players, the odds aren't favorable for a high level of play.

No getting around it disappointed that Dixon transferred mid season of what looks to be a very promising year. Although some have pointed out for eligibility purposes he needed to leave before semester starts. I have no idea if that is accurate. If so, I understand it. Too bad. I really think he missed an opportunity to do something good here.
Actually reminds me of the Yankuba Sima mid year transfer. I guess this is the new college basketball.

An interesting video for those of you who don't have intimidate knowledge of the circus that happens day to day in college athletics.

At the 6:00 mark Alpha Bangura tells Jarvis he is having second thoughts on staying at St. John's. Jarvis gave him some time to think it over and then refused to let him back on the team when Alpha said he wanted back in.

My guess is that Mullin and Dixon had the first mod these talks last month.

If there was a belief Heron was staying other guards would be looking for the back door as well...
I posted once before that if Heron stayed I think Simon goes.

If I were 20 or 21 and a guy exactly like Simon, I would think my whole pro future rests on what I do next year and what position I play. As a fan who hasn't been 20 or 21 for a long time, I don't believe that's necessarily true. But if I am Simon . . .

Simon has one future in the NBA and that is as a combo forward like PJ Tucker. 15 lbs and some skill work and he will be a bad man down low with the ability to switch on anyone and start a break.

At this point I’m not worried about his loss for next year. As long as we stay healthy this year, this will not be a difficult loss to absorb. Good luck Mikey, sorry it didn’t work out for you here at SJU.
he will not play a meaningful minute in Big East competition.
Whether he should play a meaningful minute is different from "he will not." We are going to probably need him to play against Duke since Clark and Keita will likely pick up fouls like crazy in that game. And any BE team with a competent big man is going to try to bang inside all day against us until Roberts has to come in. Not all will succeed, but some might. My concern all along for this season is that it happens in the first or second round of the tournament and we get bounced because of it.
He doesn't have to become good, just competent enough to play 60-90 second spurts.
I think I used to say something like this to my first girlfriend. She dumped me anyway.

Rodney Epperson worked out great for about 40 minutes.

Respect Dixon's decision but pretty sad. He is realy a late bloomer.

I believe that bench power is the team's power, but still don't get it why
coach B.M had Rowson Mcleod sit on the bench, transfer to Duke and
start game for #3 NC out of bench..
check the staring line-up below 07:47s.

It’s too bad that Dixon is transferring mid-season because the media hypes it out-of- context and creates the perception that the team has suffered a meaningful setback and gives our recruitng competitors word-play to use against us.
But, otherwise, it’s a minor issue.
Mikey’s PT was on the decline—by a marked degree: he played ~20mpg in the OOC and played ~4mpg in our first two BE games.
Somehow, I think we can easily replace those 4 mpg that Mikey played, with greater productivity from the likes of Williams and/or Figgy playing a few minutes more each game.
I’m having difficulty making this into any kind of an issue for the team.
Just my view.
Thanks.

Also no one knows how eli wright has looked in practices. Maybe he sees that and GW jr and saw writing on the wall.
I'd be shocked if Wright wasn't just teeing off on him given the physical disparity and experience levels.
Ranked 65 by ESPN that year.
Wright averaged 10 minutes as sophomore in a NIT team.

We are speaking about the fact that Dixon was playing less (true) and Williams was playing more.

Well, Williams played 3 minutes against Marquette.

Marquette was the perfect game in which we didn’t have foul trouble. With Keita back, we didn’t need many other bench minutes and Trimble got most of them. Going forward I would expect Keita to gradually get more minutes and depending on who has foul trouble, game situation and how they are playing will dictate the split between Trimble and Williams. Having Dixon would have been nice but I don’t think it will impact how we perform this year but I guess we will never know.

If any of our bench players (especially Trimble or Williams) get injured we will miss having Dixon to fill in. Otherwise, not a big deal this year and he'd have been up against it next year. Hate to see him go, but totally get why he felt he had to.

William's was brought along slowly but it is clear he has gotten comfortable and looks like he belongs. Except in injury or deep foul trouble dixon would have gotten spot minutes.

I love depth and this isn't great but we will survive and William's development will accelerate
