Correction. 2 Hall of Fame players on the bench. They are far from being Hall of Fame coaches.
So next coach should be?
Let's see hot mid major coach? Last time we did that that worked out for a minute or two, until it didn't and now that guy is the most hated ex coach we have had.

Maybe hot local coach at lower level? Hofstra maybe? Well that also worked out for less than a minute last time we tried that.

Hey how about bring a guy out from TV? Greenberg? Well there was some reservations about him last time his name came up and last guy we hired from TV wasn't universally loved either.

How about former player? Mark Jackson maybe? Nah people had reservations about him and the best player ever was getting bitched about 2 years in, so that won't work.

Bob Hurley sr? Mike Rice? Believe it or not those to names might make most on here happy. But that says more about people on here than it does anything else.
Every time we've changed coaches, I have always pushed for the hot mid major candidate. I believe that is the route that offers us the best chance of success. Unfortunately, there is no "can't miss" candidate out there for us.

Any new hire will come with question marks, IMO.
That video clip of St. Jean / Mullin in the huddle may go down as representative of the Mullin era like we have memories of the root causes and failures of all the other coaches.

Totally different and—more critical—venue, but it reminded me of the 1992 Presdiential debates, when President GHW Bush looked at his watch.
Chris should wear loafers.
Lol.
(Trying to joke away the angst.)

Fabulous article by Mike V—the best and most honest NY sportswriter. Thanks Paultz.
I do think that, when challenged , there’s no grittier fighter than Chris Mullin...the player.
We all hope, that can be transmitted to Chris Mullin, the coach.
Now.
CM must yank his players back & become a ‘team’.

Looking for an experienced and successful coach? With NBA ties? And a way to retain Matt A? Look no further than Fred Hoiberg (sp?)

They had a week off. Come back to face our biggest rival Georgetown. 17k packed MSG (mainly SJU fans). And the players and the coaches still put in a half ass effort. Sorry dude, but let's just call it how it is. This program is completely dysfunctional. I think they will be lucky to go 1-2 in this 3 game stretch.

LOL You spelled his last name right it was the first name you had problems with. LOL

Disappointing for sure. The coach. The team. The season. However...
Changing coaches is the easy part. Finding a better alternative to Chris Mullin... not so easy. I suggest we allow our new - and seemingly experienced, talented and motivated - AD study the lay of the land and then we trust his judgment. He’s where we may find our promise and salvation. If he stays the course, so be it. If he does decide on a coaching change, I’ll ride with that as well.
Current status - disappointing but not hopeless.
Go Storm.
Blessings to all.
Let’s let the season play out.

They have a chance because the second half of the schedule isn't too bad. Obviously they need to play as a team and to their capabilities. They SHOULD be able to win 7 of the remaining BE games which would put them at 10-8/22-9. Need a win or 2 in BE tourney to feel totally comfortable about dancing. Maybe January isn't our month. We played well last February after going 0-11. Maybe I'm just a homer holding on to anything. We shall see what happens

Mullin burned all of his timeouts with 9 minutes to go in the game. He also called a TO, sat down, and proceeded to tie his shoes for 45 seconds. I have to be honest. I think there will be better alternatives out there come March/April. Like, maybe, actual coaches.

Since the day he got here, this guy has never wanted to put in the work and he hasn't. Thank God he's had Matt A to continually stock the roster with solid talent. But honestly, I'm tired of it all. Just please hire a head coach who (a) will put in the effort (b) knows how to coach even a little bit.

I agree with your entire post.

Mahoney, Fran, Jarvis, Norm, Lavin, Mullin.

7th time the charm?

I am sure everyone will be happy with Will Brown or Joe Mihalich.

I know Nate Oats is flavor of month but I am sure there would be recruiting questions for him.

Will Brown has turned down multiple jobs in the past.

People who cover the America East have said that his family is reluctant to move from the Albany area. For that reason alone, I have never considered him a serious candidate for anything. Good coach, though.

How about Walter Berry so in 2 years you can bitch about fans wanting their 8th HC since Lou?

How about the coach you wanted? Oh wait a minute you just hate whatever coach we happen to have.
I still haven't heard a decent candidate. Easy to say coach sucks.

Name me one I shouldn't have (did like FF but even if we didn't fire him not so sure would have worked out for reasons other than coaching and I haven't called for CM to be fired). At least I am smart enough not to advocate for Walter as you have on numerous occasions. That would be far more nuttier than any of the previous 6.

Love Vacc because he always calls St John’s like he sees it. He seems to be the only local scribe who really wants to see a winner at U&U. My only question is does St John’s put the FUN in dysfunctional or do they put the FUNC in dysfunctional? Different roads, same destination I guess. Oh well, at least things will get better in 3 weeks when Port St Lucie comes to life...
