Good for the kid.
Welcome Shamel!

Having been snake-bitten for most of the past 2 decades, I understand and fully support the skepticism of some St. John's fans about our recent hire of HC Mike Anderson.
Nothing I've read has violated civility or 'balance', on either side of the 'hire'.
Opinions differ.
That's fine.
Let's communicate, avoid accusations. and chill...

You strike me as someone who enjoyed the late 60's and early 70's. True or false?

Shamel Grant related to Tyrone?
Or Shermansheridanand?
My Dearest Spocky R -
he's no relative of mine, I can assure you lol
but I wish him well!
I wonder if we have had prior walk-ons who actually contributed in games not just in practice?
Ulysses Grant

Well Moose, truth be told, I guess my 'sweet & sour' spot--some good/some bad--were those decades, yes. Lol.

There are a lot of us that did that Moose. We just can't remember everything about it.

No one dislikes Mullin. Like someone else said, the reason we were all so frustrated is because we love him and he's a legend from our program...but somehow he did not put anywhere near the effort needed into the gig. I remember someone hearing a rumor that he felt he was "doing us a favor" rather than being totally into it. Whether true or not, that certainly showed with the lack of effort and incompetent staff construction.

Totally correct. Everybody loves Mullin. He’s just not a college coach and wasn’t willing nor able to build the staff nor put in the recruiting it takes for sustained success. I’m glad he went out with an ncaa tourney appearance and a decent season and cut bait there.

Mullin just wasn't suited to be a HC at the college level
But his image remains intact - he will always be loved and revered by the SJU faithful

100 percent agree with this.

Chris's tenure didn't follow the path anybody wanted. It takes a special kind of drive to be successful as a college basketball coach. Chris had that as a player, but it's a different game running the program.

Still, I"m grateful that he put his name and reputation on the line for St. John's. That's a true Johnny, right to the core...

I still believe that if his wife didn’t head back to the west coast after a year, things may have gone differently.

The man did NOT know how to coach and showed no interest in learning!

Regardless of where his wife was living, his staff would've remained the same.

The Mission of Coach Anderson is to win the BE Conference from time to time . Make the NCAA’s 4 of 5 years and be regularly ranked in the top 25 . To do that , we need kids who can compete at a BE Level . Not sure if Anderson ever won the SEC title but , it’s a tough league . Like the BE . Cooley has done well , except this Year at PC , he gets the occasional 4-5 star kid but , basically finishes in the middle of the BE pack . We need to aim higher and look to overtake Xavier , Marquette, Villanova regularly . I don’t think you can win in the BE with a Roster of just 2,3 and the occasional 4 star kid . No matter if you press all game . It won’t happen .
those are fine standards. Why didnt you hold Mullin to them ?
. Yes, their are good Objectives for our Program or any Program . Lavin didn’t accomplish them either and both , he and Mullin shared the same fate . Lavin got to the NCAA twice , once with Norm’s players in 5 years He did a great job with Norm’s kids , Burrell, Kennedy , in year 1 . And , again in his last year with DLO, Greene , etc . If you accept these Goals , which are tough to achieve , you will have a good team . Next Year , without Figgy and Heron , will be tough . And , as with Mullin , Coach Anderson gets a free pass for year 1 results . Even , with them both, it will be tough to be .500 barring miraculous Late minute additions , like G’ town got last year with Akingo and McGuinn. Who will haunt us for 3 more years . I had opinions that favored Mullin for sure . You have opinions too . If you believe it’s a duty for you to criticize others opinions , on a basketball site , go ahead . As for Mullin , there were many , many posters and fans that supported Chris , in addition to those who resorted to weak personal attacks . I am not accusing you but , there were many in the Anti Mullin posse. If Anderson can achieve winning a BE Title in 5 years And the other Goals , he will be a success . If not , he will suffer the same fate . Although at age 60 , he can simply retire , if he doesn’t get those results .
.....the answer to my question ?

Iron Mike gets it!

I am a big, big fan of how CMA is integrating himself so much with our community and culture. Even connecting with old players now, gotta love it!

If Hatten is 'old', that leaves 'some' of the rest of us, 'ancient'!
Lol.
