Mike Anderson - Recruiting, Coaching, Etc.

Wow.

ive never been more excited about this basketball program than I am these days. This upcoming season is gonna be extremely fun and we already have reinforcements on the way in 2022. What a great time to be a fan of the Johnnies

So nice to have a professional staff!  These guys are getting quality players early and not having to scramble late.  Great job CMA and staff!

Wow, beat out some big boys for that one. No one on the board can complain about this one!

Zach;

”. St. John’s still has one scholarship open for next year and may still fill it, sources said.”

Wishing @Iron_MikeMA and @Marcheita_A the best of luck as their daughter Yvonne plays for Serbia in the #Olympics  hoops semifinals at 12:40 am on Friday. #sjubb #StJohnsFamily #JohnniesFamily

Safely, for a loony, compulsive SJ fan like me, this has been an Uber interesting off season with a potentially solid one awaiting.

when its said we have "one more scholarship for next year, and may fill it".... is that referring to this upcoming 21-22 season?

any thoughts on what 'area' might be targeted?
PG: Posh (Pinzon- he played a lot of PG for PR)...not sure the others qualify as "PG-first"
Other guard: Wusu, Smith, Mathis, Coburn
Forwards/C: Julian, Wheeler, Soriano, Stanley, Drissa, Nywie

Guessing a pure ball handler or good 3pt shooter would be the biggest need*... thoughts?

I think it depends on what they are seeing in practice from Stanley, Traore and Nyiwe. If they feel one of them can make an immediate impact in conference play, then the final scholarship would go to a ball handler that plays limited minutes.  If they take on another forward (perhaps a grad transfer), it means all three of those guys need some time to develop.

Can't remember the last team being super excited for the upcoming season without being worried that we were going to fall off a cliff the following year. For the first time in I can't remember, this program has direction, an identity, and seemingly, a sustained plan for success.

“I went to the Garden and I was overwhelmed,” the 6-foot-6, four-star guard told The Post after verbally committing to Mike Anderson and St. John’s. “There’s nothing like the Garden and being able to play in that [environment] in New York.”

Enough said.

Yeah, but did you see the video of the seat installations at the Belmont arena? Those things look super comfy./media/kunena/emoticons/grin.png

Let the whining begin that he is only a top 50 recruit.

There's already a post on the Seton Hall Rivals site saying he's not really a top 50 player ("pretty disingenuous"), that he's more like 100-125.

So I guess the "if you build it they will come" plan might actually work, huh?  Who could have seen that coming?  /media/kunena/emoticons/whistling.png

[Intentionally omitted:  links to many posts suggesting that Coach A would make the program competitive and that would help recruiting, but that a little patience was required.]

[Also intentionally omitted:  links to many posts about "bUt wHeRe aRe mUh fOuR sTaR rEcRuItS???"]

Still probably a little premature for a victory lap but it appears that we are inches away from the finish line of being a consistently relevant program for the first time in ~25 years.  It feels good!  Thanks Coach and A.D. Cragg!!!
