Midnight Madness Countdown

I'm on desktop and it's working well for me.

Great to see Darien Williams actually lift his arms above his head !!!

Anyone know why Ellison isn't participating. He danced but is on the bench.

For Mike Maher, keep your shorts on Logen, just kidding!

great to see mid season form.

Rumor is the scoring take will be the next Athletic Director because it's so close with Mullin and literally kisses his ass

Was told St. John's Malik Ellison has "minor" injury. Not taking part in scrimmage for precautionary reasons. #sjubb Happy @TheoRabinowitz?

it's over now...

you didn't miss much.

highlights for me were the finale of the SJU dance team performance, a few flashes of Lovett's handle and Freudenberg making 1 of 2 from the line.

It is nice to start the countdown to this season and have it moving and on its way.

We will have to wait until next year to see if this will really pay off, but at a first glance Marvin Clark Jr. looks great to me.

Obviously it was a super small sample size, but here is my take on a few players......

*Marcus Lovett could be an incredibly special player.

*Mussini looks fresh again. He has hit the weight room and is a little bit bigger. Could play more minutes than I anticipated.

*Ponds will go through a transition/learning period, especially in BE play

*Fruedenberg has size, athleticism and a good stroke. This kid is a match-up problem and will earn significant minutes.

*I respect Alibegovic. The kid looks even stronger and energized (as always). He is going to make it difficult for Chris to bury him on the bench.

Ultimately, I don't think SJUBB has had this much depth in a very, very long time. Exciting!

For what it's worth my son just showed me a bunch of pictures on snapchat that his AAU backcourt mate Jeffrrson Koulibaly , who is a freshman at OSNA , just posted. Jefferson who will be a high recruit in 2020 is at Midnight Madness and is having a ball. I saw pictures of him in the dressing room with other players. And he was posting how the event is crazy. Very different about what he posted about Rutgers last Friday who extended an offer to him.
Goes to show that there are even more high ranked kids in attendance than were publicly announced. This staff is working their ass off ( except when sitting on the scorers table :) ) and making great inroads with kids who won't be able to go to college for 4 years.
Very impressed.

Just got back from Carnesecca Arena
Big crowd on hand - much larger than I would have expected
I sat next to a student and asked him if the crowd was there for the hoops or the rapper
He said it was about 50 - 50
He told me that student tickets are $5 at CA and $15 at MSG
IMO, they should offer free admission to all home games and pack the place
There was little to no defense or boxing out during the scrimmage
Lovett looks like a baller; Ponds will be in due time
When Mussini doesn't handle the ball and can catch and shoot, he's good
I was impressed with Clark - good stroke from 3, goes to the basket, etc.
What's neat is that every player on this team can contribute at this level
It will be interesting to see how the minutes are distributed
I am excited for the season to begin - I think we may surprised a few people

Highlights of the night in random order.

Shamorie Ponds dancing with Desiigner and a person dressed in a Panda suit - Brooklyn in the house
Chris Mullin and Mitch Richmond looking like they really get along
Amar - had his hair up in a pony tail and looked even stronger then ever. Played well in the scrimmage.
Marvin Clark and Justin Simon look like players
Darien Williams out on the court and dunking
Leaving early and seeing a recruit that looked like 15 and over 7' tall. Anyone know the list of big men recruits in attendance. This guy was huge. I am 6'2 and I felt like a midget.
Freudenburg's jumpshot. He is really skinny though.
Mussini looked a little quicker and I am his biggest critic
Lovett has a great handle and is strong for his size. He also can jump and shoot. Hope he doesn't try to do too much early.
Ponds stripping the ball out of everyones hands. He may look harmless but he is always watching. Also made a number of nice passes. Hope he gets more aggressive.
Wasn't a great forum for Ahmed but he will be a bull in real games.
Yawke with a lot of nice finishes but his footwork is still not good.
Sima and Owens still need to get stronger.
Wish Ellison could have played. We will need him.
The crowd was huge.
Soundsytem needs improvement.

Watching the scrimmage via the internet makes it appear that
(i) LoVett is as good as advertised,
(ii) Alibegovic can score, glad he is back this season
(iii) Freudenberg isn't shy about taking the shot which is a positive, some frosh are shy when they hit college,
(iv) those that predicted Mussin will not see quality time this season are wrong- he can shoot and brings maturity.
(v) the sometimes forgotten, Williams will make the 9 player rotation,
(vi) Yakwe and Sima have improved. and appear to have worked hard in the conditioning room,
(vii) overall the StJohn's players seem to blend nicely, and
(viii) most important: it was smart of Mullin and Matt not to attempt to dance during their introductions.

The only good thing about winter is watching basketball. I am hopeful that StJohn's betters the 8th place prediction.

It is impressive that the St.John's women won the Big East last season.... recall when the St.john's women were called the St.John's Express.

Otis, I agree with everything you said
It's really hard to analyze much from the scrimmage - they really didn't go after it
Lovett and Ponds have good BB instincts - Lovett reminds me of Hatten
It was nice to see Williams run the court and dunk
There is definitely a key role for Mussini on this team
As I mentioned before, I really like Clark - very impressive tonight
I think that we will be better than 8th place this season
