MICHIGAN (@MSG), Mon., Nov. 13, 6:30p, FS-1

Michigan lost Hunter Dickinson and TWO players to the NBA from an 18-16 team. Their coach is out and his son was just ruled out for 4-6 weeks.

Michigan is always a tough out, but they are going through it as well.

We have to dominate the offensive glass and get Dingle and Alleyne open looks.
Agree As I said, they don’t really have a post presence anywhere near Dickinson. Hey have Olivier only and he will have a hard time with the depth we have up front and Soriano and Ledlum will be more than a handful for them.

Their Pg was very good but he’s gonna be going against a very savy and experienced Daniss Jenkins who is a lot taller and not going to fall for the stuff that Asheville did. We need to go out and work them over.

The Rotation will be what RP wants it to be . Not what we may want it to be . Probably 2 different things .

I think RP has a plan to get Taylor , Luis , Davis , Wilcher , Dunlap , Zuby as much PT as he can while still focusing on winning games this year .

He’s investing in the development of those players as they will be the Core of next years team . We have to trust his judgement and understand what and why he’s doing what he does .

Also too, he wants a frantic pace on Offense and that requires a deep bench to give a break to those going up and down on every possession . I thought that wore down Stony Brook to a nub .

I watched the UCONN game the other day and felt Clingan’s weakness , if there is one , is his Stamina . He only played 13 minutes a game last year and sure a lot of that was Sanogo but , a lot was Clingan not being able to go all out for long stretches .

They do have the kid Samson who is long and quick but , a youngster . He will likely be the back up .
I posted this on another thread, but Clingan has zero stamina and foot issues. He is going to struggle to put together more than 20-minute games. Def has talent but if you get him running they’ll have to sun him out a lot.

I think that McDaniel kid will be the fastest guard we face all year. I see him picking Jenkin's pocket for some easy layups early. He's WAY too fast for our guards, but he's wild in the lane. I suspect Pitino sees that and will instruct his perimeter guys not to help too much when he drives. He's going to get by our guards at will so the best we can hope for is to steer him from the basket and make Joel force him into bad decisions or attack his layups at the highest point.

On the other end, run him into 2-3 screens from Ledlum and Soriano every possession so he's got no legs in the second half. He goes under a lot of screens from what I've seen.

Dingle can absolutely punish their SG Burnett. That's our most favorable matchup...Jenkins and Dingle need to take him off the dribble every single time they get him on them and Michigan is playing man.

They'll be tough, but we should win, weren't they picked 11th or 12th right behind RU?

When you look at their roster, they don't really impress that much. The Marquette win in a scrimmage is what gives me pause. It's just a scrimmage, but how did they pull that off? They have a lot of roster turnover and a lot of sloppy players who have not had a chance to develop chemistry. On paper this looks like a very flawed team.

Of course, the flipside of that is we are weeks away from forging a team identity ourselves.

The seniors looked very last night, SB made their runs with our subs in. Hope they get alot better by December 20th.

More passing, less dribbling.

McDaniel is also a turnstyle on defense as far as what I saw. Likes to play offense and lanes, more than real defense. Then again, who doesn’t.

These are games that real coaches want to play early on regardless of outcome that will pay dividends as the season progresses.

Yes, this is a significant early season challenge. How we play will be an early indicator of where we are right now.

It will reveal how our guys stack up to real competition. A win will mean something for sure. A loss will be an opportunity to as Looie would say, "Go back into the lab" to continue working on improvement.

Rick wanted a sellout. We won't get that and that's too bad. I'm told by redmen4life Michigan has plenty of nyc alums who will show up. Hopefully a late surge in sju tix sales.

Bright lights, Broadway, it's why Rick is here. He hasn't been the home coach of a team playing in MSG since the Knicks. One more step in sju reclaiming NYC as ours.

Was thinking about this on the train this morning... given Mich 2 results so far (exhibition vs a top10 and a resounding win vs a sold mid-major) - it certainly looks like they are clicking. Was wishing we could have maybe another 'warm-up' prior to playing a team of this caliber....

But eff it- these are the teams we should Want* to play anytime/anywhere... if we Lose, we lose... nothing we haven't done before. To be an optimist- a loss could serve us better- identify what we need to work on and get back in the 'lab'

Will be a great barometer of where our Team is (without what should be a significant contributor in Luis). I have no doubt Rick will have our guys ready for a dog fight.

if there's one critique of RP thus far, its his handling of rotations

his rotations are pretty wholesale. meaning we're not mixing our 1st team with 2nd team.

For example. i'd love to see Sim out there with the first team. but yet he's out there with drissa, zuby, and others.

not a recipe for sustaining the momentum.

Most likely there is still experimentation going on. I think we see a tightened rotation in the Michigan game, although, Pitino may still be experimenting to some degree with his goal to prepare for conference play.

I think what he’s doing is “pushing” guys like Simeon to “earn” minutes with the first team or the “trusted” guys in the rotation. To do that you need a delineation of the rotation. Not a bad idea especially with the freshman. Of course, that’s just a guess and certainly don’t want to put words in Pitino’s mouth.

I think Monday vs Michigan will be a good barometer of where the pecking order of the roster sits at least before Luis is ready to rock.

Hi all,
If you send me a private message with your name and cell# i will create a limited group text for charleston to keep group informed of unscheduled events, etc.

It will be a good way to keep in touch over the weekend there.

Should be great regardless of wins. Excited to see many old and new friends

tickets look like they're going fast, not much left available right now. would be great to have another sell out and seems within reach
wouldn't be surprised if most of the leftovers are being absorbed by Michigan fans.

school doing a great job promoting the game.
