MICHIGAN (@MSG), Mon., Nov. 13, 6:30p, FS-1

While there is nothing that came out of tonight's game that would lead one to believe that SJU is going to make a deep run in this year's NCAA tournament, this is still nothing more than one game on the schedule. That all said, I have always felt since the Pitino hire that there needs to be a wait and see approach to the program's future accomplishments. To that extent, while tonight's performance was not a good one, no one should take more out of it then they should any second game in November. This team's future, how they come together over the course of the season and any thought about how the season will play out needs to be put on hold until this group gets a chance to develop a team chemistry, learn to play with each other, establish a defensive philosophy and create a team identity. If the hiring of Rick Pitino means anything, he should be able to mold the talent he has into more than the sum of its parts. Time is our ally here and games played in November are less significant than games played in February and March.

On a positive note, I caught a nice SJU Stout T-Shirt, the flames that were lit up during the SJU player introductions were really exciting and the game ended in time for me to make my LIRR train without having to rush.

Onward and upward gentlemen!!

I'm sure there are a lot of fans and posters that are feeling like all is lost already. The way to avoid that feeling is to understand that while CP is a worthy hall of famer, he cannot waive a magic wand and be expected to rebuild a failing program in game 2 of his first season. Yet many here believed that Coach Pitino's mere presence would end more than 20 years of suffering instanty. We are St. John's fans, and suffering is our middle name. It won't be the constant it has been for years, but endure it we must for a little while longer.
I have to think RP was as disappointed as we fans were . We learned again , that it s very easy to get caught up in the hype . And , we learned that talent is the primary driver of success on the Court .

Michigan had more and better talent at every position , except Soriano . They were quicker by a lot and could shoot the lights out too .

Dingle and Alleyne need to get more shots . Ledlum and Jenkins less . And , getting the ball to Soriano a lot more than they did .

Our quickness or lack of it , is going to be a problem . Michigan exposed that big time . There guards blew past everyone almost at will .

I think BE Coaches had us pegged right as a 5 th place season . Maybe it’s enough to get us NCAA bound .

Also too , while hoping for a good season now., I think we need to bring in more 4-5 star. Talent .for next season .Doesn’t everyone ? Through the Portal as well as , the kids coming in from HS .

There are a million reasons why a "die hard fan" might have decided not attend the game. Maybe he was up with his sick child last night and was exhausted after working all day, Maybe he had a date with a hot babe and is looking to get laid. Or maybe, just maybe, after watching shit basketball for most of the last 20 years he decided that he'll wait for the team to prove themselves on the court before shleping to MSG and paying big bucks to watch them. Don't matter what the reason is, the fact that someone didn't attend tonight's debacle doesn't make them any less of a die fan than those of us who did attend.
Was this a serious discussion on this site?

I was responding to someone else who brought it up, but it's also been brought up by others many times before
Lol wow. I think it’s safe to say anyone who roots for this team, especially a lot of you who have season tickets throughout all these crap years, are “die hard” fans. I don’t even see how that can be questioned.

I’m sorry but this was an atrocious showing this evening. Maybe I expected too much... The first 15 minutes of the game was very exciting and close, after that the Wolverines absolutely dominated us. It was literally boys versus men. Very disappointing, I hope they show up in Charleston. Only positive tonight was meeting Brook jersey Redmen & the 114 crew!!!

I came back. I’ve been to a game or two each year for the last few years but season tickets for the first time since Mullin year 1.

But I quickly remembered the many reasons I don’t like going. The MSG seats are completely crap. I will send SJU my orthopedic bill. It’s a pain and hassle to get to the game and I was actually off today. Then to boot the team got waxed and I left feeling dejected like oh so many precious nights over the years. And I just walked into my house at 1040 but it was fun reading the game thread to make the train ride somewhat bearable.

So personal story aside I agree with you and will never question anyone not going.

Also one more thing. MSG never feels like home. The crowd was 85 percent SJU. But something just doesn’t feel right when we’re there. I go to Rangers games and you feel home. It doesn’t feel home for SJU

Ledlum looked like sophomore year Sean Evans. Jenkins lack of poise surprises me.

A die hard SJ fan does show for this game. Nothing wrong with anyone choosing not to attend. But, unless its finances or a schedule conflict, if someone CHOOSES not to attend, they aren’t a die hard SJ fan.
You’ve got to be kidding, but sadly I know you’re not. I have been a diehard fan for about 55 years and very rarely attend games for reasons other than either of those things; it’s called life.
I have a full plate between my company, blessed with a large family I cherish spending time with and have several hobbies that I love to stay busy with, including staying active in the game by volunteering to coach and run basketball clinics at the local Boys Club and PAL. Everybody needs to prioritize what is important to them and the 2 to 3 or so hours commuting to NY to see games live is something I am just not willing to do. Doesn’t make me any lesser a fan than you or anyone else.

Why are you explaining yourself? It’s a dumb conversation/argument that nobody here should have to justify. Anyone, especially on this site, should easily understand.

Yes, I'm very disappointed in much of our guard play but let's give props to Michigan's backcourt but of McDaniel and Burnett who exploited our lackluster defense.
McDaniel was allowed to be a hot dog and he relished it and made any of our guards look like dry mustard. He played 38 minutes and had a career game and probably played 8 more minutes than he should have but Martelli obviously wanted to rub the mismatch in Pitino's face.

For a Harvard grad, Ledlum is not playing smart basketball. We need his rebounding more than his offense so I expect Pitino to reinforce that with him. He took the same bone headed shots that cost us the scrimmage against Pace.

Taylor needed to take more shots; in fact, he should have taken the shots Ledlum was attempting.

Pitino was very embarrassed by the play of his starters. He basically benched all of them with more than 9 minutes left in the game because of their piss poor execution of some pretty basic things.

I expect Pitino to work our players hard after this game but let's remember these guys are all new to each other and will be a different team by January, especially with the addition of RJ Luis who will make up for the Ledlum's offensive deficiencies.

As for the imaginary Posh-McDaniel match-up, I don't think Posh would have slowed down this kids incredible speed one iota. The kid just played with abandon and he knew when to pass and when to drive. As for the other imaginary match-up with Walt Clayton Jr. at the point, even at Iona, Daniss was the quicker player. Our guards allowed McDaniel to go around them too easily.
Our backcourt was too timid and that ladies was the game.
