Just an idea but when the stores down in Penn station open up maybe do an NIL deal with Ross’s pizza because games like today it was like the walking dead searching for pizza with 10 minutes left
Is Roses not back open yet? I had read an article they were returning. Used to be my go to

Interesting, I wouldn’t describe what I saw tonight as necessarily a lack of defensive effort, but more of a lack of confident and decisive defending.

guys weren’t trusting each other out there, they also weren’t aware of who to rotate to after we sent double teams, leaving guys wide open streaking to the hoop.

The question I have as of now is if we have the personnel to stop quick and shifty guards. Jenkins really struggled and Wilcher is extremely raw. Wayyyy more raw than he was billed up to be. Game 2 of his freshman year so I’m not gonna hit any panic buttons.

I hope tonight was a huge wake up call for this team that if they want to go anywhere they need to defend like they’re a unified force. Tonight was a sobering look at how far away this collection of players is from being a “team”.

I trust Rick to get them there. But we will see
I hear you, but we just disagree. I saw very little effort from the opening possession, the wide open 3 from the corner, and IMO that never changed.

All I know is that the fan base turned out in large numbers and pumped up. We did our part in a huge way. Can't say the same for the extremely well paid team.
Yes, the video on the Jumbo screen of Pitino asking fans to contribute to the team’s NIL fund is not going to go over too well I think.

Thankfully I had to leave with about 5 minutes left in the first half and just got home. Getting thumped like that is pretty deflating. Did anyone play well for us? Looks like maybe Joel & Ejiofor? Now I'm watching Knicks lose to Celts; bad night all around.

I am not happy to agree but I do. I didn’t think “Dug” was as fast as you said but he absolutely smoked us. I’m gonna say this and it’s gonna hurt many, but Posh Alexander would have tortured Mr. Dug tonight and would have been exactly the smaller, great defense Pg we needed. Daniss got killed, with a bad matchup. Posh wouldn’t have. Would honestly have changed the game imo.

We are gonna need Luis and Alleyne has to play.
Completely disagree about Posh. What he would have given you defensively he would have given up on the offensive end with his weak handle and poor shooting.

When the team is getting out hustled on the boards and can’t make a defensive stop, of course not.

The team quit the last three minutes of the first half

Ledlum killed us in the first half. Turnovers and missed layups. Conway cannot be out there.

Soriano played solid. I thought Sim looked good despite limited usage. Zuby looked like he will be serviceable down the line.

it's one game. but here's one glaring issue: we have low energy guys.

dingle, ledlum, jenkins, all of them..... they're all kind of soft.

we're missing the pitbull mentality.

a lot of the times, you need that killer instinct to push your defense.
Like I said during the latter stages of the game, Dingle needs to be a bit unselfish. I suspect he's finding where he belongs with this team and feeling things out, so to speak.

Just got back from MSG. I’ve never been so optimistic and depressed within the same 1 hour time span. Great crowd, great enthusiasm, overwhelmingly SJU - and then it was WTF?? I wasn’t expecting us to win necessarily, but not this. Im pretty sure I heard some boos in the crowd tonight. Depressing.
Being on the short end of a 41-9 score before halftime was when I was my most optimistic and quickly depressed within a game. This one doesn’t come close because at halftime I was still expecting it to be a close game.

Highligt of my night was sitting with Sean Conway's lovely sister and hearing all about their family. Both Mom and Dad were college BB players, Dad at NYU. Had no idea. That made the night much more bearable. That and alcohol.

Some of us tried to tell folks to lower their expectations some after we witnessed the Pace game. There was a lot of spin from Rick after that one and I know guys didn’t play but it was a DII team.

One thing I said after that game and will repeat is this roster is not nearly as deep as advertised. I’m not calling anyone out individually but I can’t find more than seven guys who look like they will be able to handle Big East play.

But it’s early, so things can still change.
Agree that the talent is not as good as advertised. Jenkins not a pg. when Witcher ran the point late in game he looked much better. He was actually looking to set things up for others. We need him to grow up fast. Ludlum was awful. Joel frustrated and ineffective much if the night. Dingle is certainly no Vinnie Johnson. Bottom line, no one on the floor posed a threat on offense. Noone was quick enough to get Michigan cheating or out of position and no one could take their defender one on one. Add to that no true pg running offensive sets and the only way to score is jungle ball.
So far it looks like a classic SJU team - on offense disorganized, one on one ball, missed bunnies and no shooters and on defense unable to stop the ball or defend the three. Painful flashbacks.

Face reality !
They are still learning to live with each other.

This is a young team.
They will be better.
If we strongly support them they will be that much better
and sooner.
All the way guys, not just the good games.
That's a fan with character.

Conway plays his heart out every possession. He's just not very good, which is unfortunate.
