MICHIGAN (@MSG), Mon., Nov. 13, 6:30p, FS-1

I haven’t looked forward to a game like this in a long time and I knew this would be the outcome no matter how much I lied to myself.

The scary thing is that our starters don’t have enough talent to press so I don’t see how they can become a tournament team unless Wilcher just goes nuts.

The look on Pitino’s face when he pressed the first time and McDaniel made the entire team look like they were moving in slow motion was troubling. He emphatically and demonstrably called off the press after that one play.

Wilcher has the talent. Taylor has the talent. And Alleyne. That’s it.

Dingle couldn’t cover Bill Raftery. Ledlum is somehow both too short and too slow. I’d rather let Luis play in a full body cast.

Jenkins doesn’t do anything to get shots for Dingle or Alleyne.
I am not happy to agree but I do. I didn’t think “Dug” was as fast as you said but he absolutely smoked us. I’m gonna say this and it’s gonna hurt many, but Posh Alexander would have tortured Mr. Dug tonight and would have been exactly the smaller, great defense Pg we needed. Daniss got killed, with a bad matchup. Posh wouldn’t have. Would honestly have changed the game imo.

We are gonna need Luis and Alleyne has to play.

Frankly, I wouldn’t get shots for Dingle either unless he at least tried to at least fake being interested in covering anyone.…………just kidding but man, he is one statue on defense.

I was expecting more from ledlum. He doesn't finish that great because he's barely 6'6" and his hands are not great. Kinda like how Soriano was in beginning.

Jenkins is the engine, but sputters erratically.

There size prevented us doing an inside outside game. Then our outside shots didn't fall.

Things will get better if and when dingle gets comfortable.

Hope Michigan is a tournament team to take sting out of this one.

As others have said, learn and move on.

I agree 100% on Posh. AJ Storr would have been the best player on the roster if he stayed too.

In terms of VJ Edgecombe, he with looked at tge game and said no way am I playing here, or said, I could be the star here. But I’m a St John’s fan I’m accustomed to bad news.

If Jenkins is the engine, we will be in trouble. He’s simply not a PG. He’s combo that learned how to do a few PG things well. I would have actually preferred Phil Greene tonight over Jenkins.

The fact that Jenkins and Ledlum have no conscience out there is terrifying. I’m almost ready to roll out Wilcher and take our lumps early.

St John’s finally broke Maher
Here is all I’ll say. I went from trying to eat less to burger at that place on front of I think 113 to a hot dog to I left so early I went outside msg to a halal stand got a cheesesteak sub only to have that guy rip me off and put it on pita with no cheese but I wanted to get home so beg I just ate it. That’s how bad todays game was

Kind of comical, the problem is Traore? Someone please name me a player who left it on the court tonight because I sure didn’t see one, not a single one. A team going through the motions IMO. No leader, no toughness. I admittedly am being harsh but it all starts with effort and I posted very early they looked like that wanted to play only on the offensive end. And even that went south when they got punched at the end of the half.
Interesting, I wouldn’t describe what I saw tonight as necessarily a lack of defensive effort, but more of a lack of confident and decisive defending.

guys weren’t trusting each other out there, they also weren’t aware of who to rotate to after we sent double teams, leaving guys wide open streaking to the hoop.

The question I have as of now is if we have the personnel to stop quick and shifty guards. Jenkins really struggled and Wilcher is extremely raw. Wayyyy more raw than he was billed up to be. Game 2 of his freshman year so I’m not gonna hit any panic buttons.

I hope tonight was a huge wake up call for this team that if they want to go anywhere they need to defend like they’re a unified force. Tonight was a sobering look at how far away this collection of players is from being a “team”.

I trust Rick to get them there. But we will see

SD I hope that tonight's game had no impact at all on VJ's decision. If he comes it's to play for Rick and at MSG. Most of the players he saw tonight will be gone next season. So my hope is that he's sees the potential here and overlooks what he saw on the court tonight.

Actually, I am waiting to hear from the posters who listed all the reasons a “true” SJU fan was required to prove themselves by spending their time and $ on tonight’s game, er, debacle!
They swung in the other direction and are now too busy already calling this team a disaster.

Some of us tried to tell folks to lower their expectations some after we witnessed the Pace game. There was a lot of spin from Rick after that one and I know guys didn’t play but it was a DII team.

One thing I said after that game and will repeat is this roster is not nearly as deep as advertised. I’m not calling anyone out individually but I can’t find more than seven guys who look like they will be able to handle Big East play.

But it’s early, so things can still change.

it's one game. but here's one glaring issue: we have low energy guys.

dingle, ledlum, jenkins, all of them..... they're all kind of soft.

we're missing the pitbull mentality.

a lot of the times, you need that killer instinct to push your defense.

Just got back from MSG. I’ve never been so optimistic and depressed within the same 1 hour time span. Great crowd, great enthusiasm, overwhelmingly SJU - and then it was WTF?? I wasn’t expecting us to win necessarily, but not this. Im pretty sure I heard some boos in the crowd tonight. Depressing.

Just an idea but when the stores down in Penn station open up maybe do an NIL deal with Ross’s pizza because games like today it was like the walking dead searching for pizza with 10 minutes left

One bad game does not make the season. The defense is no where what it should be but it will be fixed, as will the offense.

A learning and teaching experience and if those who started didn’t get the message of how unhappy Rick was when he played his bench the last with minutes, they will. Michigan as some periodicals and pundits were saying is better than advertised and despite the over hype, we are not there yet. It will get better.

We have another game in three days, let’s go get them.
