What is Ripken's problem with the Mets?
. Agree, going to be tough on Thursday but we certainly have a shot with deGrom ready to go. Weird how this worked out, lousy pitch selection to Kershaw, grounder that Tejada would have gobbled up and a bloop leading to the Turner double. Need to move Murphy to first and play Johnson. And the Mets are nuts if they don't resign Murphy. All the good feelings I had last night disappeared. UGHHHHHHHHHH
Let's be positive guys. If you were told on July 15th we'd be in the playoffs competing to play for the NL pennant, we'd all have signed up for it. We are one win away from playing for the NL championship. A Cubs-Mets series would be deep and rich, with the Cubs having to erase a scar that still pains their franchise 46 years later. I'd love to see that series, much more compelling than a Dodgers-Cubs series. Chicago, like NY, has been transformed into a sparkling midwest city (except for the homicide rate, but oh well), and still grittier than LA, that has more glitz than grit.
Well, the 5 game format with 2 travel days tucked in certainly favors a team like the Dodgers, who have arguably the #1 and #2 pitchers in the league. There is no contest comparing the #3 and #4 pitchers. So we have to play a 5 game series where we see 2/5th of their rotation..
If you want to get to the Series, a great team has to overcome this. deGrom is an elite pitcher as well, and the Mets bats have to put runs on the board. Duda in particular has been horrible. He will be in the starting lineup, but perhaps we'd be better off with Murphy at first and Kelly Johnson at second. Having Conforto in the lineup will be a welcome change as well.
Of course its not going to be easy, but this is what the playoffs are for. When the going gets tough....
FYI: At Citifield when they run a series of video clips of a bunch of prominent stars shouting encouragement to the team, Mullin is one of them.

Nor sure who is being negative but the fact is we had a great opportunity last night and were not able to capitalize. Is kershaw a bitch and did he pitch a great game, you bet. But I root hard for the Mets and it is no solace to me that I could rationalize why it's not that bad that we lost or how we exceeded expectations by a year. That's what winters are for; now is for celebrating like crazy when you win and contemplating jumping off a bridge when you lose.
I have a trip scheduled to be in Chicago next tues-thurs that was scheduled last month. I hope to be watching the Mets in Wrigley. If there is any good karma it's that I went to my first game at Wrigley in April, and to be accommodating, rooted for the Cubs as the home team (vs. the Reds). Field level seats to the right of the visiting batting circle bought at the stadium right before game time - $49.

If I can get those seats for under $300 I will fly out for the game. Lets hope the Mets can get it done Thursday. Mets vs Cubs would be awesome. Great young pitching vs great young hitting.

If we play at wrigley possible chance I go out there for a game too depending on client meetings. That would be fun for sure

Agreed. I take no solace or rationalization during the series or right after. That stuff is for those parents who like their kids playing in leagues where they don't keep score and every kid is a winner in their eyes. F That. In december I can look back at the year and it being such a great year as a fan to finally watch but right now losing only makes me miserable.
Not expecting a win tomorrow. I'll be rooting like crazy but I'm prepared to be miserable and angry over a wasted opportunity.
Praying deGrom throws another gem and singlehandedly wins it for us
got my mlb.tv international package for 25 bucks. I'll be up at 2 am Friday in prague for 1st pitch. Mets will not let me down I want my money's worth. Let's get it!!

On SNY they have these old season summary shows that Bob Murphy or Lindsey Nelson hosted. They reviewed the bright spots in absolutely horrible seasons in the 60s. I go back to when I was a little kid and the bright spot was Dennis Ribant being the first Met pitcher to have 10 wins (12-11)and a plus .500 record. (He was immediately traded to Pittsburgh for phenom Don Bosch). I followed every Seaver win in 67 and 68 when it was clear he was a bonafide star. Koosman too in 68 (saw his first home game against the SF Giants on Opening day, a 3-0 shutout) I was a fan when they traded Ryan for Fregosi, Amos Otis for Joe Foy, when the highlight was Tommy Davis hitting .302, when not losing 100 was a goal, when Vince Coleman was throwing cherry bombs out of a car at pedestrians, Frank Taveras had more errors than RBIs. Lived through so many doldrum years that the winning seasons seem like a fleeting oasis between the next dry patch. If you think that I'll be happy losing (I was up till 3 AM Sunday morning after the loss, but too wiped form Monday to even stay awake during the entire game yesterday) you are wrong.
What I am saying, is this Mets team produced Flores, Conforto, Syndergaard, Familia, and Matz as solid contributors on future teams. Toss in the development of d'Arnaud, the resurgence of David Wright, the comeback of Matt Harvey, and the continued development of ROY deGrom.
You can feel like crap for a few days if they get knocked out, but honestly, this is a likeable team to root for and is not a one trick pony and a fluke team (like the 2000 team). They will get Cespedes done (maybe at the expense of Murphy and Colon - which by themselves will cover a lot of Cespede's deal). Losing sucks, and I am not giving up or rationalizing anything. But even comparing this squad to the 2006-2008 teams that folded in big moments, there is no comparison. This team is giving it their all.
Mets fans who didn't come to a game until August have nothing to be upset about. They latched onto a hot team on a run and saw some awesome baseball. They should have come out and watched Harvey, deGrom or Syndergaard throw some gems. Even before Matz, 3/5 of their games had the mets throwing something special. Yet most fans stayed home.
Over the Mets history, certain seasons were all or nothing. The 69 Mets didn't repeat, and limped to the playoffs in 73 (82-79). The 86 team was a powerhouse, but never got back to the series. This team if left mostly intact can challenge for the next 3 years at least (no major free agents till Harvey). In baseball you have to win when you have the chance, so there is no time like right now, but when we all look in the rear view mirror, this team was terrific.

I dont disagree with a lot of what you are saying. But like I've mentioned here before. I'm a glass half empty person. I loved watching this season and I love the guys on the team and it's not like I'm going to dislike the guys any less other than Terry Collins.
But if we lose I'm going to be miserable. It's just the way it is ad if I haven't changed in 45 years I'm not going to change now. My life won't be any different but I'll be pissed that we blew an opportunity and that we got f'd over the the umps and I'll be pissed that Terry Collins blew that 5-0 lead to the phillies when he pulled the starter early thus spiraling our home field advantage chances out of control. I f'ing hate losing but It will be on to the next sport SJU and football and then I'll start looking forward to baseball after the super bowl

You are exactly the kind of guy I like working with because you hate to lose.
On the other hand, mostly on your doing, you made what would have been a really crappy night in Charlotte after we lost to SDSU a really great time by organizing everyone to meet up in that bar. We aren't much different at all.
