Mets

Utley suspended 2 games. So basically they take him from the abuse he was going to get from us at home. Ughhh

If the game is not in doubt Harvey still needs to rail someone in his last inning of pitching

If I'm the Mets I just take care of business tonight and win the game. Tomorrow I drill Kershaw his first time up. That will send a loud and clear message to the Dodgers.

The Mets would be stupid to do anything tonight or this series. Why risk any suspensions. Wait until next season. Also I wouldn't be surprised if the umpires issue a warning to both teams before the game starts.

And that is the rub with the impotence of MLB; call the play properly and the incident is over. You clearly have rules on the books to deal with the situation as it happens but instead show your utter imcompetence on the field and in the replay process and it lingers. Potentially ruin Kershaw's career because Utley is an a..hole and gets rewarded for it (I understand that is a stretch and not what you are saying). Retaliation is the way it has always been handled, I understand your logic and not disagreeing per se but drilling Kershaw (or anyone) will certainly send a message but just as certainly resolve nothiing.

I suspect you are correct, but also believe that if the Mets are going down in this series, you will see a brawl on the field late in the game. Mattingly only fanned the flames by bringing NY fans into it. If the Mets are swamping the Dodgers tonight, their bats will do the talking, although I wouldn't be shocked to see them put in a deep bench player as a pinch runner to wipe out a dodger middle infielder late in the game if we are up by a lot.

I would never advocate anyone getting hurt and I'm certainly not saying go head hunting. I would even be okay if they threw one behind him and didn't hit him. Utley's dirty play and utter disregard for another athletes health needs to be answered. What do you think Mattingly and all of Utley's teammates will say to him if the Mets send a message? He won't be making anymore tackles.

You are crazy if you think the Mets will not respond. It might not be tonight but they will send a message. Collins is old school and Harvey has a reputation for defending his teammates. If no warnings are issued they will not suspend a first time offender. Looking forward to tonight's game. Don't under estimate Harvey wanting to endear himself to the Met fans. Also if Harvey gets suspended that will take care of the worry over his innings.

Collins is old school.....

Meh.
If he were truly old school, Collins would have thrown a damn tantrum on the field after that play. He should have been in the umps grill for failing to call obvious interference, award a double play and preserve the damn 2-1 lead. May have not made a difference, but it would have lit an inferno under the team. Instead he gingerly speaks to the umps and goes back to the dugout with his tail between his legs. And the Mets go quietly into the night.

Oh yeah? Him challenging the umps by getting in their grill and screaming at them and getting ejected would have worked for us in that situation? Usually I agree. But there was no way that was going to be the end result. He would have gotten tossed and they would still have runners on 1st and 2nd. It would have been worse in that situation had he gotten ejected and no result.

The umpire on the field called him out being the correct call. Ruling that the batter should have been out as well would have been a bit of a stretch. The real sad part of all this is the incompetence of the review umpire and that's why Torre is throwing the Mets a bone.

He could argue until he's blue in the face and would make no difference. Once they reviewed the play that was it and the umpires can't overturn a reviewed play. Maybe he should've had Reed throw to 2nd and appeal the play. Per Ron Darling that's what they should've done. Not sure if that would've changed anything.

I don't think they should, if something happens they will lay down suspensions. If you are ok with some potential players getting suspended for the rest or next series then ok. I don't care who wins, but if it was a team I follow I would want them to wait.

All I'm saying is Wally Backman would have run after Utley and performed a battlefield appendectomy on him in the dugout using Greinke's cleats. That's old school. And that wins ballgames.

Except that Backman didn't respond when Strawberry publicly declared "I'm gonna wring that little redneck's throat" For my money, Murphy should have pounced on Utley the way Wayne Garrett charged from third to be the first to pile onto Pete Rose after Harrelson went back at Rose for barreling into him. Harrelson gave away 60 lbs to Rose but that didn't stop him.

I think Wright should've got in Utley's face when Utley was jogging off the field back to the dugout.

About to leave for the game. LET'S GO METS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lets hope the Dark Night brings his "A" game. We need this one. LGM

Although I will always remain a paranoid met and st johns fan who expects bad things to happen in some strange way with all this Harvey drama etc and innings counts etc and people whining he was only going to pitch game 3 if you were to ask me knowing all the facts of this series now who would be the 1 pitcher I would want for tonight assuming all had equal amounts of rest my answer would be Harvey without a doubt.

If he shuts them down tonight this will be a game that will put him back in fans good graces forever

Damn I want this win so bad tonight

Wilmer is starting at short tonight. I hate the step backwards defensively but he's been clutch all year in bg spots. I expect something big from him.
