Mets

anyone know where we can buy an offense?

this one-run per game stuff of late is ridiculous.

and while i appreciate their efforts, Cuddyer ain't amountin' to much, and neither is Grandy (despite a decent OBA).

this team may need to finally pull a trigger on a trade and unload a young pitcher to get a real bat.

How is Kirk Nieuwenhuis in the major leagues? He is a complete joker. I am also starting to get tired of Terry Collins. The team needs some fire and he is way too laid back.

WALLY !!!

How long before his mug shot would appear on the front pages? :) Wilpons don't have the guts to make him a manager...though a small part of me wouldn't mind seeing how that would play out, even if my gut tells me it would end very ugly. :) I just can't imagine his style working with guys who all make more money than him. Sad, but possibly true.

Mets need bats, badly.

I coach 5 and 6 year old kids in baseball. There are like 5 kids that are just starting to play now. It is their first time ever swinging a bat. During batting practice every one gets 5-7 hits. For these 5 kids it literally takes a half hour to tip the ball. I generally just try to hit their bat with the ball. It is very frustrating for the other kids who have played before this year.

Watching Nieuwenhuis try to hit reminds me of watching those 5 kids try to tip the ball 5 times. He even swings like it is the first time he ever played baseball. He steps first then swings with just his arms. So yeah our 4th outfielder reminds me of a 5 year old just learning to play.

Yeah it is great Grandy walks, but it is basically useless on this team. He gets on base but Collins does not hit and run or bunt. Team has no speed and no power so basically Grandy walking does nothing. Would rather he hit 30 homers and bat 220. Would be way more productive

I think we need to slow down a little bit. Our best player has been hurt, BEST player. And D'arnaud was also hitting really well before he went down. We are suffering from injuries right now. We can't expect to win without these guys, or at least cannot expect to remain as hot as we were with both of them out. No need to get desperate in May, I am now in the belief of hold onto all the young arms, let 2 of our biggest players recover and see what happens. Can you imagine 5 Aces in one rotation?

Even when they were winning 11 in a row, it was clear that this lineup simply does not have enough bats, and really do not have dangerous hitters in the middle of the lineup. There's not a single legitimate big time bat, not that you necessarily need one. I wouldn't mortgage the future by selling off a prized arm though. The thought of a scary 5 man rotation over the next 7-10 years is reason enough to simply find a salary dump type of player or two around the all star game. If we are still in the hunt, that could happen and the price should not be that high - they won't be desperate buyers.

Exactly. One thing though, for Sandy, there can't be anymore wait and see next year. Playoffs or bust this year. Wright needs to produce when he's back. He absolutely needs to. Everyone is obsessed with trading for Tulo, yeah lets grab his mega contract and have him sit injured on our bench a few months later. Dilson Herrera has shown some promise too

If Kirk is eliminated, I would feel better. I can't watch him hit. He is Josh Satin 2.

Our best player is, unfortunately, a shadow of his former self.

This lineup was never going to succeed. Too many stars needed to align.

The game that killed us was when D'Arnaud and Blevins got hurt. They were both playing great baseball.

There's been too much fan and media emphasis on upgrading the offense at shortstop.

Forget Tulo or Starling Castro. All the Mets have to do is find a decent major league shortstop who won't embarrass himself in the field or at the plate. I mean for goddsakes, the best Mets teams had Buddy Harrelson and Rafael Santana at short.

Instead, the Mets must upgrade at the corner outfield.

Left field has been a blackhole for this franchise for a decade. Ever since Cliff Floyd, we have had weak production out of one of the most offensive position in MLB.

Cuddeyer, 36, is not going to do it. He is a great fourth outfielder on a good team or a solid starter on a team that has prime offensive production at other positions. On the Mets, he is just another offensive liability.

Have to love Terry's creative lineups. Instead of throwing crap at the wall maybe hit and run or send the guys with decent speed. Making crazy lineups up when you can't hit is useless and is fake managing.
CF Granderson
2B Herrera-actually like this though
1B Duda
LF Cuddyer's corpse
RF Mayberry-AKA righthanded Niuewenhuis
SS Flores
C Reckar-2nd worst hitter in majors
3B-Tejad-worst hitting starting 3B in baseball history
P Niese-you could theoretically justify hitting him 7th

Lol damn you have no patience. The guy only has 34 at bats this season! He hit .260 with a .349 obp last year in 112 at bats, with a good glove, power, and speed. He'll come around I think. The Mets were something like18-3 when he started last year.

It's pretty amazing how well the Mets have done this far with all the injuries. We have Wright, d'Arnaud, and Nimmo waiting to give us some pop on the lineup. I doubt Murph continues to hit this bad.

Plus, I think they will pull the trigger on Tulowitzki soon. Probably Syndergaard and a few prospects.

I hope Kirk has some other life skills to fall back on. He stinks

Mortimer and Randolph Wilpon along Sandy will not trade prospects or spend money. Upgrade to offense will be something like releasing Kirk and trading Gee for a upgrade for 4th outfielder

Hahaha you guys are a rough crowd. Just reading this thread, you'd think we were in last place. We're in first place and 20-14 despite being hit hard by injuries.

The good news is that Murph is only hitting .244 and he is a lock to hit .290+. Cuddyer is a professional hitter as well, and he is batting .241. That will come up to at least .275 to .280 if he can stay healthy...the health is the key with him. Flores is currently at .239, but no way he's under .260 if he plays full-time the rest of the way.

Wright (.333) and d'Arnaud (.317) were our leading hitters when they went down. Plawecki looks like he could benefit from playing behind d'Arnaud for a few months.

This still will never be a nasty offensive team.

Cuddyer's bat seems slow and he is 37. I thought he would be an upgrade if he managed not to get hurt. Murphy will get traded. SA and brain trust do not like him. I used to disagree but now a guy who hits 285 with 10 homers really does not justify how lousy a fielder he is.
It is a shame how bad an offense they have considering if they could scratch out 4 runs a game they win.

The word from the writers on SNY's Daily News Show have said over and over that Backman will never be manager as long as Alderson remains as GM.

I love this team and agree about the injuries but I am a Met fan of close to 40 years. I have a right to take jabs at them. Sometimes players do well for short periods of time. Tejada hit .280 a few years ago. Not happening again. Same with Kirk. Ownership stinks and so does the Manager. I think we make a run at the playoffs but please don't trade Syndergaard yet. Could be the same result as the Nolan Ryan trade.
