Mets

Bruce is signed for next year. On the radio they just said Familia has arb years left so he isn't going anywhere unless they trade him

I'm rooting for the cubs now

I was at Wrigley last year for the clincher. (Second time in my life and 2nd time that season, watching Cub reds in April). The place is a shrine, they have terrifically loyal fans who have suffered way more than Mets fans, and they were gracious losers as the Mets swept them.

Last year after the final out, tens of thousands of Cub fans remained in their seats, and then starting cheering their losing team. The Cubs retreated quickly to the clubhouse, but immediately Madden brought the entire team back onto the field where a large contingency of Cubs fans congreagated along the third base line to cheer them loudly as if they had won, even as the Mets ended a brief private celebration on the field to celebrate with thousand of Mets fans at Wrigley who began massing along the first base side of the stadium in the 8th inning when the final result was no longer in doubt. It was an amazing moment and I met many working stiffs and even a couple of students who at the last minute bought tickets to Chicago to fly in for this win.

So I am rooting for the cubs too.

Funny story. I was in Chicago by myself, and bought a ticket on Stubhub that afternoon. I didn't know what kind of crowd I'd encounter, so I zipped up my windbreaker over my Mets t-shirt not to attract attention. The night was so warm though, and there were many Mets fans there, so I took off my jacket. In the 7th inning, I had to use the restroom, and with the game slipping away, some Cub fans were getting really pissed at Met fans who were celebrating a little too loudly. So I had a little trepidation of leaving my seat.

I go into the restroom, where the urinals are these long metal troughs that you see in some bars. As I am finishing and walking towards the sinks, this monstrous sized guy who was about 6 ft 7 and easily 350 lbs calls out me. "Hey you!. Yea, in the Mets jersey" I'm like, "Oh shit. Here it comes" I envisioned myself pummeled and lying in a pool of urine on the men's room floor. "Let me asked you a question", he shouted as he drew closer. "Are you from Chicago, or New York". At the speed of that IBM computer that beat Boris Spassky in chess, I pondered the two possible answers about a million times before deciding on the truth since either answer could have a crappy outcome. "I'm from New York", I nervously said. With that this guy breaks into a gigantic smile and says "I LOVE it. I love fans that follow their team. Hey buddy, enjoy the game, and enjoy our city".

So my experience is that Cub fans are great. I sympathize with their pain, and hope they take it all.

Mets fans, for the most part, are like the most loyal Redmen fans (us). We expect disappointment, but when we win we savor it for a very long time, knowing that in our lives, moments of glory are fleeting and their memory sustain us through gloomier days.

Great stories !!

I love Wrigley field. You just have to make sure not to stand next to a drunk person who is swaying at the urinal :)

Last year I was at citifield and I was at one of the cub games and I was in the visiting owners box and ended up sitting with Tom Rickett's their owner for almost the entire game just talking ball and travel and he is such a down to earth cool guy and he was very respectful and complimentary of the mets at that time ( not like his brother who talks too much ) but anyway knowing what a good guy he is and how their fans are good fans but suffer even more than us I really hope they win it all

Stuart Sternberg, who owns the Tampa Bay Rays, is a St. John's Alum. I wish we had some guys who know him, because I understand he has rebuffed every effort by SJU to have a relationship with him. It seems at the very least, providing internships for our sports management majors would be a no brainer.

He worked at Goldman Sachs, so Riley must know him. I wonder if he has some bug up his butt about SJU.

seats probably got moved in the points system :)

Thor was fantastic last night and acted as cool as a 15 year seasoned veteran. Great trade by Sandy giving up R.A. to get the kid.
And what's also great is that he's not eligible for FA until 2022. :cheer:

Putting Familia in to a tie game is like a STJ basketball opponent getting called for a bench technical and CM sending in Sima to shoot the free throw. Not saying we would have won but they got Salas just for that role.

AS the Giants were sending lefty after lefty up in the ninth I wanted Blevins. You see it all the time in the Post Tony Larussa closer world, when closers come into a tie game or down a run needing to keep close they are consistently unsuccessful.

If Collins put Blevins in the ninth inning and he got smashed we would never, ever hear the end from our fans. I know it seems as if closer falters when put in a tie game. He's trying to get three outs and give the Mets a chance in the bottom of the inning. Talk about second guessing.

it was great to have gotten to wild card with all the injuries but once again as a met fan I have my heart ripped out stomped on and run over by mr met in a dump truck with a pile of Familia blown saves dumped on top

Come on Mike. A pitcher doesn't always have his stuff everyday. Can't forget his 51 saves. When I would get mad at a failed at bat by one of the B'klyn Dodgers my brother would remind me that they are human and really don't want to fail. Can't believe they booed Familia but hey that's the Met fans for you.

I still have TMS ( Traumatic Mets Syndrome ) from last year

I dont hate Familia and it's not like I boo him but a lot of times he gives me a Doug Sisk like nervousness

I didnt want him in yet but after the Orioles thing the day before I'm not going to go crazy over it.

Even though it didnt really matter I had more of a problem with Collins pinch hitting for Loney with Campbell who was batting something like .175. With a tie game and Duda not on the roster and Loney your best fielding 1st baseman and a tie game where potentially defense could matter a lot to me it was moronic to pinch hit for Loney against Madison with a guy batting .175 just because he is a righty batter

SF had something like 11 pitchers on their roster for lefty righty. Save Campbell for later because Loney has just a much of a chance against Madison as him ( both not good chances )

Familia should have been put in the game but he is starting to remind me of Armando Benitez in the postseason.

As in Armando Benitez Syndrome (ABS), severe somatized body tension causing profuse sweating and sub-optimal motor control in high stress situations.

Can't disagree with you. Good points.

And John Franco. Fans complain about closers even when they get the save but put men on base. These were all top notch closers. It's like they are expected to retire every batter they face. Sort of like a field goal kicker is expected to make every kick or the fans are unhappy with them. Tough jobs but at least they get the big bucks.

Kershaw gets Murphy to pop up with one out and two on in the 9th. Gets the save.
