Mets Hot Stove talk--2024-25

The Mets exercised their buyout for Maton. Easy decision as we expected and saves 7.5 mill.

Manaea opted out of his final year.

Qualifying offers are due by 2 PM today. Sevvy being the biggest uncertainty here. I'd extend the offer though he's probably worth closer to 16-17 mill.
Agreed.

There is a lot of talk about all of the FA pitchers on the Mets. But the Mets can sign/resign anyone they want and have assets to make trades. Resign Manaea. Sign Burnes. Sign Buehler. Trade for Crochet.

Great six-man rotation and depth in case of injuries:

Burnes/Senga/Crochet/Manaea/Buehler/Peterson.

Then add a top notch closer to pair with Diaz.

That would be the top rotation in baseball with Senga and Peterson. Maybe a good plan b if we miss on Soto.

There is a lot of Willy Adames talk. Sign me up for

1B: Vientos
2B: someone
SS: Lindor
3B: Adames
DH: Mauricio

It’s a nice mixture of young and vets and a number of moveable pieces.

Don’t love the Adames to third and Vientos to first thought. I am hoping this is a move to get leverage on Alonso.

I love Vientos at third. His bat plays so much better and we can always sub him out late in games for defense.

Willy Adames is a strikeout waiting to happen. Too much for me. I would also be worried if he’s seen his best as he hits 30 next season.
I feel much better about a power hitting first baseman like Pete playing into his mid to late 30’s since power is the last thing to go.

Mets just traded for centerfielder Jose Siri. They gave up Eric Orze, a solid young middle reliever.

Siri is 99th percentile in defense and speed with very good arm in center. 3 years of arbitration remaining and projected to make just 2.5 mill this year. Great trade IMHO.

I wonder what this means for Taylor? Some redundancy there now and a lot of youth we should be making space for in the outfield.

Great trade by Stearns. He strikes out a ton but does show some potential for hitting homers. He's a cheaper, better replacement for Bader. He's under team control until 2028 also.

Excited to see what else unfolds.

The Mets will probably pair him with Taylor. The offense from the pair will be meh, but holy smokes will they cover ground defensively. With three years of control to boot.

We know 3/4 of the defense up the middle with Alvarez, Lindor and the CF tandem is very good. We will see what shakes out at 2B.

Do you think we keep Taylor, who will probably only cost around 3 million as well?

Nimmo, Marte, and Acuna can all play center. Baty and Mauricio can play left (Vientos as well). McNeil can play left and right. And we’ve got Gilbert and Jett.

The non-tender deadline is Friday, so this timing has me questioning him being on the roster for the first time!
