Mets 2024 Season

Listen, I leave it at this. I like Mendoza a lot. And, barring a miracle 2-games-to-1 is still a close series, but he messed this game up bad. I’d use a different word than messed but this is a PG-13 site. 😉
Agree. I've defended him a lot (it's been easy), but the JDM decision was mind boggling + the manager should've been more decisive in benching Alvarez for Torrens (look at Severino's splits with Torrens...). Also thought this would've been a great chance to have McNeil in there.

I'm not old enough to remember but the 1960 Pirates won 4 close games vs the Yankees and got annihilated 3 times. Pregame the announcers were singing Mets praises. Thank God this team is more resilient and casts off doubters. LGM
Same as twitter. We were getting swept after game 1. We were winning at CitiField after game 2. Now, we’re done. 😂

Megill just cost himself a rotation spot next year. He can’t be looked at as anything more than a 7th starter.
I was going to say, "Good thing you didn't manage Sandy Koufax" but then remembered that Walter Alston hated Koufax from the get go because as a rookie bonus baby he was forced onto the 1955 roster when Alston was trying to win a pennant. For the next few years he used Koufax sparingly, in long relief, and spot starter. Finally Koufax demanded to be starter or be cut or traded. He didn’t become a great pitcher till his 7th season.

Megill tops out at 98 mph. One bad outing won't destroy him for next season.

Megill is a 6/7. He hasn’t show the ability to be good consistently. I’m interested in seeing what they do this off-season. I hope they go after a true stud. We have Quintana, Severino and Manea to backfill. With the Scott injury this won’t be an easy rotation to piece together.

It’s 2 bad outings in 2 playoff games for a guy who was already on the outside looking in at the 5th rotation spot. He also got the loss against the Phillies.

He’s given up 6 hits, 4 walks, and 5 runs in 4.1 innings this postseason.

He’s got value as a swing starter/long reliever or maybe just convert him to a straight up 1-2 inning reliever. We can’t be penciling him in as the 5th or maybe even 6th guy when free agency hits and that is disappointing for a team that has 3 starters hitting free agency and the projected #5 out recovering from TJ.

The devil's advocate would say he came up big for us in September, a time where he was called up because of an injury. Gutsy especially against PHI and ATL down the stretch.

But I'd be very surprised if he's penciled in as our fifth starter. I remember a Gelbs report from late August saying that the staff wanted him to "own" his career, or something along those lines, and that they were happy to see him sitting next to the coaches in between starts. Tells me that they're frustrated with him and the rope isn't very long anymore.

Premature conversation, hopefully very, but I think Senga/Peterson/Blackburn are the three guys you can safely put in. Then maybe we re-sign someone, sign another, and let Butto transition back to a starter. After last night...Buehler shot up my list. Guy said he loves pitching in cold weather, still has his breaking stuff. Impressed that he immediately went to the stretch. Seems primed to return to form next year.

We also have an ace in Senga that is fragile and coming off a disastrous season. Stearns almost has to look past him and build a rotation with him out and consider it a cherry on top of the sundae if he stays healthy for most of the season.

The one positive is we have a million AAA starters ready at some point in 2025 and two of them, Sproat and Tidwell, have top of the rotation potential down the road.

I’d say we now have to re-sign 2/3 of Sevy, Manaea, and Quintana as well as going after a big ace like Burnes. Sevy’s ball was moving like crazy last night!

Lindor said it best today. The Mets, including himself, need to get the clutch hits like the Dodgers.
Truth. Anyone who watched the game knows the Mets had plenty of runners and failed every time to plate the runners. It was tough to watch. The Dodgers have a good offensive team. They will score no matter how well the Mets pitch. The Mets need to capitalize on their opportunities. Last night? Nothing.

NGL, I’m not the biggest Severino fan so I wasn’t surprised we lost last night. Just more surprised at HOW we lost. I hope Mendoza is not stubborn enough to make some changes. I already saw a quote from his presser that Alvy would play again today.
