Credit Mendoza for his approach to this game setting it up as a Bullpen game. Great pitching all around. Senga-Peterson-Garrett combo for seven was sweet.
This is a great start but a short series where advantage shifts quickly. Wheeler was so dominant it was reminiscent of Mike Scott's 2006 mastery in the 1986 Mets-Astros series. Back then as the series progressed the Mets were well aware that they should win in 6 or face Scott in game 7. Same scenario here. There is pressure to win 2 of next 3 and move on.brilliant work. Kept the game close. Got through wheeler. Torched their bullpen. Textbook
At worst we’re going back to citi 1-1 series. Feels very good
Extremely on brand.I don’t know if that was discussed during the broadcast because I don’t listen to announcers while watching sports
The way these guys are built , maybe the 110 pitches affects him in his next start (prayer). He was definitely letting loose in the last inning knowing he was done.Great win. Stayed close while waiting for a virtually unhittable Wheeler to exit and then jumped the bullpen.
The Mets entire energy changes when a dominant pitcher leaves the game. It’s like a parent going to bed during a sleepover party.
Wheeler threw 110 pitches and was hitting speeds he hasn’t in a few years. You’d think he will be compromised for a game 5 if it comes to that. Peterson barely broke a sweat. Senga should be ready for 3 innings next outing.
Reed Garrett was excellent. He’s in the circle of trust now. My guy Big Country Stanek got the job done, but I’ll have to downgrade him from soul-snatcher to okay high leverage option. Maton took a small step, but a long way to go to earn any kind of trust — and that 7.75 mill team option for 2025 looks like an easy decline.
Could be way off here but I’d keep him as far away from the clubhouse as possible. Guy is a negative nut job, the antithesis of Iglesias in every way. DFA him and thank him for his service!
Without passing judgment on McNeil I will say that I absolutely love Iglesias. Hard to fathom.how this guy was picked off the scrap heap. He is high quality in almost every way.Could be way off here but I’d keep him as far away from the clubhouse as possible. Guy is a negative nut job, the antithesis of Iglesias in every way. Iglesias is a pro’s pro. Does anyone remember that Iglesias “won” the backup job in Spring Training. However, the great Joey Wendle was on a “Major league” deal. So Wendle was the guy blocking Iglesias. Did Iglesias pout? Ask out? No, guy put his head down and played well at AAA. When the opportunity came he was ready. There is a message in there for young players. Guy is a role model and we are lucky to have him.Without passing judgment on McNeil I will say that I absolutely love Iglesias.
