What a mind boggling victory!! I was absolutely braced for the worst, after Butto gave up the back to back Home Runs and by the time the Mets came up in the top of the ninth, I was pretty demoralized. The offense was comatose and then out of nowhere they exploded (thank god for Pete Alonso). I loved watching David Peterson (son of Seattle Slew trainer Doug Peterson) close it out, to pick up his first career save.
Alonso has been the greatest power hitter in the history of the Mets, a class guy from the beginning of his career and it would have been wrong for him to go out, in perhaps his final appearance in a Mets uniform, with such a disappointing performance. When that ball went over the fence, I went insane and staring rolling around on the floor like I was nine years old.
You combine this improbable victory with Monday's insanely wild game one victory over the Braves and you start to imagine anything is possible.
