Mets 2024 Season

Happy for Pete

I think I told this story. Our very own Traczok who used to post here a lot lives in Cali. Huge mets fan. His son was at a bar/restaurant in Cali after a mets Cali game wearing an Alonso Jersey at the bar when a guy taps him on the back and says " hey I want to thank you for wearing my Jersey " It was Pete Freaking Alonso

Some of these posts aren’t going to age well. But if that’s his last AB with us….wow.
Most of the posts were right on, no one said the Mets had no chance, but the fact is the Mets had terrible at bats and Mendoza made bad pitching changes two night in a row IMO. Because they won doesn’t change that, it just makes the W that much sweeter and adds to the legacy of this team.
Having said that, I thought bringing in Peterson was a horrible move, but didn’t post it because I had been ragging and whining all night. But I feel I was right previously and totally WRONG on the Peterson move and couldn’t be happier about that. To show you where I was at, I thought it would not have been a bad move to pinch hit Martinez for Alonso because Williams is a pitcher you have to take the other way. So what does Alonso do……..just the beauty of sports in my mind, a million opinions but in the end you just never know. I have been watching baseball with understanding 60+ years and saw something I never saw before only to find out this was the first time in MLB history ANYONE has hit a go-ahead home run when trailing in the 9th inning of an elimination game.
On that note, I am out of here, going to crack another beer……..

This was very reminiscent of the Toronto game where the Mets were no hit for 8 innings and Lindor belted that homer which opened the flood gates.

With 1 swing Pete Alonso just changed the narrative in the most dramatic way (and maybe earned himself back a few million a year). You couldn’t have picked a more clutch moment. BRAVO PETE!

I love the closeup of Pete rounding the bases screaming "Fuck yea!!"

Chased a lot of demons. Biggest moment of his career, and they all got on his back and he carried them. Happy, no, thrilled for him! He's the big kid who was ripping guys shirts off after walk off wins.

Hope he's here for a long time. Cohen's a businessman but also a fan. We haven't had a bigger fan as owner since Joan Payson. Whatever the right thing is with Alonso, Cohen will do it.

What a mind boggling victory!! I was absolutely braced for the worst, after Butto gave up the back to back Home Runs and by the time the Mets came up in the top of the ninth, I was pretty demoralized. The offense was comatose and then out of nowhere they exploded (thank god for Pete Alonso). I loved watching David Peterson (son of Seattle Slew trainer Doug Peterson) close it out, to pick up his first career save.

Alonso has been the greatest power hitter in the history of the Mets, a class guy from the beginning of his career and it would have been wrong for him to go out, in perhaps his final appearance in a Mets uniform, with such a disappointing performance. When that ball went over the fence, I went insane and staring rolling around on the floor like I was nine years old.

You combine this improbable victory with Monday's insanely wild game one victory over the Braves and you start to imagine anything is possible.

To quote the late great Tug McGraw: "Ya Gotta Believe!"
