Mets 2024 Season

I just saw the replay of Maton. On the second HR to Mitchell he put his head down and I’ll be damned. He morphed into Aaron Heilman on my TV. 😖

Well, you win as a team and they certainly lost as one tonight, led by some very questionable decisions by the manager and very poor at bats by the players.
I was very surprised he lifted Manaea after 86 pitches and not sure why he didn’t go longer with Garrett and/or Stanek. Or why he didn’t have the lefty up and ready to face Mitchell. He took out the hot guys and stayed with the “it’s not my night” guy. He managed a clinching game like it was the regular season.

To defend Maton for five seconds.

His last home run given up was July 12th.

Playoff stats heading into today:
21IP, 0.83 era, 22 strikeouts to 5 balls.

Not saying the guy is perfect, but he's probably our most proven playoff reliever out there. He's been to a WS and another ALCS. I get what Mendoza did putting him in and keeping him in. Just didn't work out.

I don’t hate going to Maton I just hate staying with him after he gave up his third hit of the inning.

They went and visited him at the mound and the dude was yelling into his glove and clearly looked rattled. That should’ve been it for him

But for who? I'm assuming Butto is unavailable. Diaz coming in would be less than ideal since he's pitched so much recently. Are we all really pining for Adam Ottavino? Danny Young??

I agree with leaving Stanek or Garrett in. But I don't see the guy we want coming in for Maton.

The more I think about it, it had to be Diaz there in the 8th. 6 outs from winning it, if he struggled in the 8th or took a lot of pitches you turn to Butto to close but you need your best arm against Chourio leading off.

You get Chourio out you take the head off the snake and they are cooked. Also Pete Alonso needs to be benched at this point, guy blows!

Maton blew the game in Atlanta Monday. You can’t give him a high leverage spot two days later. Stanek has been on and only threw 11 pitches (9 strikes). You have to go with the hot hand.

I often think Managers are too worried about tomorrow TODAY. Tomorrow LOSE and we are out of Tomorrows. We squandered a golden chance to close this out.

Butto only threw 25 pitches yesterday. I'd have gone to him
Somebody was saying he was unavailable. That’s ridiculous. In July that makes sense. Butto has pitched once in the last week. This is why you play. He can buckle down and get another inning. If Diaz needs to pitch two innings tomorrow he should. His arm won’t fall off.

Should’ve been Diaz IMO, but there were other options too especially with a lefty coming up. Earlier today -

To me, if you were taking Stanek out you go to Diaz, period end of story, Bhutto if he can’t get 6 outs. I cannot stand this pitch count crap in general but when you are down to an elimination game throw the analytics nonsense out the window, man up and grow a set. But as Mendoza applied his “one man one inning” strategy as Jack Williams said, bringing in Maton was one thing, to leave him in to face Mitchell was completely asinine.

This just makes Logen’s point. There was our lefty to face Mitchell. One batter. Peterson would have lived. 7/8 pitches in the AB. There was 2 out.
