Memory Lane

OK since I moved stuff to this thread for housekeeping purposes, it also provides me with an opportunity to answer a question a guy on the train asked me last night:

Guys LMF hated: Omar Cook. Reggie Jessie. Zendon Hamilton. DeAngelo Harrison (first two years or so). Jakarr Sampson.

Guys LMF loved: Charles Minlend, Justin Simon, Sir Dom. Boo Harvey. Marcus Hatten. Ty Grant.

Guys LMF had sneaky affection for that probably didn't deserve it: Donald Emmanuel. Phil Greene. Eugene Lawrence. Dylan Wusu. Matt Brust.

Guys it was a privilege to watch play: Sealy, followed by Mullin and Artest, followed by The Truth.

Definitely forgetting some, just an off-the-top-of-my-head list. Curious who others have in those categories (or others)
Loved Kenny McIntyre , George Johnson, Leroy Ellis and the best Tony Jackson

Here's a name no one EVER brings up James Scott.

Paterson NJ, Eastside HS, McDonald's AA.

Two time JUCO player of the year, along with Larry Johnson only other player to be POY as a Freshman and Sophomore JUCO.

Gave us two good (not great) seasons in the mid 1990's, had a cup of coffee with the Heat, played overseas for 10 years.

Really smooth jumper with lots of elevation.
He was highly heralded and I found him to be a big disappointment

Agree about Champagnie. Fantastic player who for whatever reason couldn’t hit the big shot in crunch time. I loved watching him though. Also agree he would have been a killer on a team that had a more ball dominate scorer. In an alternate universe where we can shift the timeline a couple of years I think Soph/Jr Ponds and Soph/Jr Champagnie would have been a tremendous duo.

He surprised me over & over with how good he got and how he kept improving. Champagnie’s work ethic must be insane. Don’t think Julian was that highly regarded of a recruit (his brother was considered the bigger get right?) and I couldn’t believe when Anderson started him as a freshman. And he was good! The bigger suprise was when he came back for Year 2 & he wasn't just good but had somehow turned himself into a full blown star. I remember for the first month of that season I kept expecting his hot start to end but eventually it was like. “I think he’s just actually this good now…”

And the guy continued. Signed a real NBA contract after hanging around as an undrafted 2 way guy. Dissapointing we never got to see Champagnie play (or Anderson coach) in the tournament but he was an overwhelming success as far as player development goes.

I think my favorite part of this thread so far are the guys I remember when people bring them up, like Andre Stanley.

My second favorite part is the oddity of the intersections and not-intersections, like NC Johnnie having Reggie Jessie on the dislike list (same as me) but Matt Brust also on that list whereas he's on my sneaky-affection list.

Keep em coming!

Nice Ron Plair mention. One of my early favs

No one mentioned him yet but I remember being constantly frustrated by Aaron spears lol
One good game in the BET. His last game if I remember correctly.
0 for 2 for transfers from Illinois

Spears had a quick stop at Highland CC after Illinois before signing with Norm.
Curbelo, Big 10 Freshman and 6th man of the year. Just did not fit in with us. I do thank him for winning the Temple and Syracuse games at Barclays.
