Memory Lane

Good calls on Fordham (not 96) and Cedric The Entertainer.
Ayo - I can't decide if he's related to Marillac or just has some serious dirt on Marillac that Marillac doesn't want ppl to find out about....
With Ayo it’s most definitely dirt on Marillac 😀

I don’t want to call any kid disappointing ( well curbelo ) we can agree on. Maybe we should have a separate kist “ most overhyped “

Avery Patterson has to be on that list. Doesn’t mean they were bad or good just overhyped

Since our last two wins at UConn was brought up in the game thread, figured Memory Lane would be a good spot to post highlights.

As far as I can see on here, no one mentioned Glen Williams. Ranks 10th career points, 6th in single season. Fun to watch since his jump shot looked effortless. Passed away too soon at age 63.

'While playing for Laurinburg at Nassau Coliseum before a New York Nets game in 1973, Williams was noticed by Nets head coach Lou Carnesecca.[1] When Carnesecca was hired as the St. John's Redmen head coach the following season, Williams joined the team, becoming a starter during his freshman season and staying in the starting lineup for his entire collegiate career.[1][2] During his senior season as team captain, he scored 665 points, breaking the Redmen record for most points scored in a season.[3] Williams ranks 10th in total points scored at St. John's.[4] Carnesecca called him "one of the best two-way players we ever had here".[2]"

Guys I have hated

Bashir Ahmed: didn't like his game or him as a person - don't know if I ever told the story about the time I spilled beer on him at Parson's. Complete accident as I tripped, but I tried to apologize to him and he wouldn't look me in the eyes or acknowledge me. To this day part of me doesn't blame him, I get beer spilling on you is annoying as hell, but if you've ever been to Parsons on a Tues night, place is completely packed wall to wall and it is hard to get around, always thought his reaction was lame as hell

Mustapha Heron: Comparative to his hype and ranking as a recruit, Mustapha was one of the more frustrating players I have watched here. And he absolutely sucked in our last NCAAT game, the play in against Arizona St. Like if it came out he had ASU moneyline, I would believe it in a second.

Isiah Moore: One of those guys who you could tell was a complete a-hole when watching him play. But he was decent so tried to ignore it. But then he went and got suspended for our (actual) must win game against Seton Hall in the BET. Then he left.

Guys I loved

D'Angelo Harrison: Probably my first basketball hero. I was in 7th grade when he first arrived, and despite a rocky first couple of years, he is my favorite johnnie ever. Though Zuby is starting to close in

Posh Alexander: I'll spare you all the explanation ;)

Justin Simon: Couldn't shoot and his form was not nice to look at, but those Mullin teams would have so many games where they came out inexplicably flat, but Justin in particular was always playing hard. Athletic too

2025 Kadary Richmond: Best johnnie I've ever seen (prisoner of the moment take maybe, who knows?)

Sneaky Affection Guys

Mallik Ellison, Nick Rutherford, Ron MVouika, Omar Stanley, Malik Boothe

Holy Jumping Subway turnstiles , Batman .

No mention of Shamorie Ponds or Chamapagne ?

A omission by accident or just didn’t like them ?

Wasn't naming every player I loved, just a few that jumped out. Shamorie was awesome, but Julian... eh. Great guy. Good player. Also missed every big shot he ever took in our uniform. Feel like that is what I remember the most about him, is us going to him in crunch time again and again and it not working out

Yeah, but does Marillac get credit for being literally the only one on this site not to like him out of high school? "I'm not as high on this kid as everyone else seems to be, but I recognize him as a solid college PG."

Honestly think Alex Karaban is a good comp to Champ. If you put together a very good team around Champ, he would've been so much better.

This post is the equivalent of clicking your heels together three times and saying "I want to go home" except replace "home" with "Carmine"

Loved: Lavor Postell, DJ Kennedy, D'lo, Shamorie Ponds, Sophomore LJ.

Sneaky affection: Kyle Cuff, Larry Wright, Justin Burrell, Paris Horne, Justin Brownlee, Jamal Branch, Christian Jones, Dylan Addae-Wusu

Best surprise player: Julian Champagnie

Transfers that hurt the most: Larry Wright, LJ, Christian Jones, Cedric Jackson

Could have done without: Durand Johnson, Sedee Keita, Andre Curbelo, David Jones

Most yells at TV: Jakarr Sampson, Chris Obekpa, Junior Dom Pointer. That whole 13-14 season

Mase.....I agree with just about all of your calls here.

I would just add Tariq Owens to the transfers that hurt the most.

I liked Curbelo, I remember him helping us win a couple of games. Andre had a few concussions while at Illinois. He may also have some mental health issues. I hope that the young man is getting the help that he needs and will eventually have a productive life.
