Glad Matt is very likely staying, but time to fill current recruiting voids, as well as begin to zero in on a critical 18 class. Pressure is on. I sense we will see some transfer candidate names soon.

As an aside, I hope SJU does not continue to put all eggs in one basket by depending on one recruiter. Hopefully CM sees the wisdom of assigning another guy to regularly share the load. More than one staff member has to have solid relationships with recruiting sources and you can't put yourself in a vulnerable position like this going forward.

The bigger reason why it's important to balance the staff is so that if this happens again - whatever happened, assuming something did, that it wasn't all innuendo and trolling - Mulin can tell Matt good luck and ask him if he needs a ride to the airport. Which is what they did essentially last year with Rohrssen.

My guess is that Mullin realizes that the staff isn't optimally configured, because he's not, you know, a moron. If you and I can see it, it's likely that a basketball genius sees it as well - he did have two recruiters until one left. But BR didn't officially leave until September. It seems to me that there was little point in adding a strange new face to the staff a month before the season started, especially with Richmond there.

About the eggs in the basket thing, it's St John's who put all them in one and Mullin is all the eggs. It doesn't matter who the assistants are qua assistants, if this one stays or the other one leaves. If the program is going to move forward it's because Mullin is successful and if Mullin is successful it's going to be because he's Mullin. If he needs A-b-d-e-l-m-a-s-s-i-h there to help him (and I mean A-b-d-e-l-m-a-s-s-i-h specifically, as opposed to a generic recruiter or two) they hired the wrong egg.

EXACTLY. He's bored. He takes the NCAA tournament for granted: five sweet sixteens in eight years, he's the most successful and accomplished assistant coach in college basketball. He's conquered Kansas, he needs a new mountain to climb.

He makes somewhere around 350-400K I believe. I assume it would take at lease that much to get him here. Unless Slice finds another job and we're off the hook for his salary, don't see the school anteing up nearly that much. If they were going to, I assume they'd be anteing up for Matt.

This is totally hypocritical. You're telling me that if another employer came to you with a better opportunity and a lot more money, you would turn it away out of a sense of loyalty.

Fact of the matter is sports is a cut throat business. You need to capitalize on your opportunities when they come your way. If the rumors are true, I have no problem with Matt coming to SJU with an offer and asking them to match it.

sju is his alma mater. its not the same as just another random employer.

Money talks and if anyone says that they would turn down a substantial increase they are kidding themselves. Alma mater or loyality is out the window. People think Chris is untouchable, well if he doesn't turn things around you can guarantee they will part ways and what happens to Matt. You can never get too comfortable in coaching. There is a reason why most asst. don't buy houses. Lol

No one with half a brain thinks Chris is untouchable. As for Matt, if it's not this offer they'll be others for more money. When I was an employee, I tended to value loyalty and comfort level over top $. I had the opportunity to jump at higher paying jobs a number of times, but always managed to work something out with my then current employer. As an employer, I have long time employees who I know could have left for higher paying jobs, but our personal relationships and how I've treated them has kept them with me. On the other hand there have been a few employees over the years who thought they had me over a barrel, and came to me asking for big raises at a moment in time when they thought they were indispensable. Only to find out very quickly how dispensable they were. My feeling has always been that if you pull that crap on me once, you'll do it again. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

I would beg to differ on the untouchable topic, but that's ok. Also, you are right to some people loyality is important and the grass isn't always greener. Most of us doesn't have the opportunity to double our salary, I'm pretty sure if someone came to you and said I would double your salary you might think about it for 2 minutes. (Not saying that's what they will do) but if the money is significant plus cheaper cost of living then he needs to make his money now.

Not to speak for Monte but I believe he was commenting on the method not the loyalty factor. I agree that if Matt (or any employee) comes with a firm offer in negotiations that is fair. To play it without that offer is not, IMO. I have no idea what is really happening but that's how I took Monte's post.

"That is fair", give me a break with that nonsense. Firm offer or soft offer, competition is competition. No fairness involved. This is about money and a career and earning a living. Matt is young, has to make his money now. Can't reasonably or feasibly expect someone to pass on higher payer over loyalty to a school.

Love those on here bashing him now too. Lol. He was the second coming of Christ on here for so long, and now people want to belittle his value because he's in all likelihood looking at a significant pay raise.

Give me a break, fair means you do it professionally not that you don't do it. And my point is that were Matt to come in my office playing that game I would react the same as Monte, "thanks for the insight, there's the door." You can lie with snakes but eventually they will bite you. You want a raise, don't come in with a phony offer, come in my office and prove you've earned it and will continue to earn it, don't try to play me. You live in your world, I'll live in mine.

Yeah and DHJ was the dentist and posts here too under another name.also. Much more mellow also. Us getting older will do that I guess.

Diehard Johnny was a Dentist and his practice was in Queens. A real good fan that got a little exuberant at times.
