@Marquette, Sat., Feb. 10, 6p, FS-1

I’ll assume each individual player will be back until they enter the portal.

There are a ton of minutes being vacated with Jenkins, Dingle, Alleyne, and Ledlum leaving. Pitino likes playing Luis at the 4. He’s not going to find a better situation at the high major level.

Pitino will likely tell him “sorry kid we disnt have the guards to play the type of game I recruited you for.”
Joel will also be gone. I’m sure someone can do the math but those guys are the vast majority of our points, minutes, and rebounding.

Sure he’s a jerk but he’s not wrong. Anytime Marquette got punched in the month and had to deal with adversity they looked for a mismatch and drove right at the basket. When we got punched in the mouth he shot a bunch of threes.

We’ve done this all year. It’s a difference in coaching philosophies that has worked out well for Marq and has us clawing for 7th in the Big East.

Chalk this one up to another disappointing loss. I certainly don't get the grief given to Rick because it isn't like he is coaching high major talent. He is keeping games competitive with a group of guys that never played together and when separate were playing routinely against talent that couldn't even beat DePaul. And I don't mean any of that in a nasty way; a lot of these guys give it their all and I root for them until that final whistle, so I appreciate the entertainment they've provided this year.

I've been reading the board for many years now and it seems that we tend to overvalue the talent coming in. I mean our starting center was recruited by Fordham, our PG by Iona, and two of our other starters by ivy league schools. I'm not taking anything away from those programs, but the truth is they are not blue-chip basketball schools bringing in high level talent. I don't want to take anything away from this group of guys, but these are players that were never projected to be stars in a major conference. Yet they come in here and, other than a couple of stinkers, have provided us with incredibly competitive Big East basketball games.

Remember that part of our skid is because we played the best team in the country twice in UCONN, a top 10 team in Marquett twice, and a top 20 team in Creighton. Other than the UCONN game at MSG we were in every single one of them to the point where the game came down to the final minute. It would have been amazing to take one or two of those, but we are unfortunately 0-5 in those games, but 6-2 against the big east teams that aren't one of best 20 teams in the country.

Here is to hoping we steal at least one from either Providence or Butler, kick the Halls teeth in at home, take care of business against G-Town and Depaul, and steal one big win vs. Creighton. Hopefully 11 or 12 wins in this division and maybe one in the BET is enough to get us into the round of 64.

I would LOVE to have Kolek on my team... anyone that says they wouldn't is just a hater... or doesn't want to win.

He provided the best analysis of our D - and im sure our Staff will agree with him.

When you play like he does- you can talk as much shit as you want. You don't like it... beat him.

Agree about UCONN but not Marquette. We could have won either or both games (especially at MSG). Would like to get another with them to write our ticket to the tournament and hopefully make "Mr. Barbecue Chicken" eat his words.
Just because we’ve been close doesn’t mean we’re due though. If anything, we’re due for a more substantive blowout.

Adjustments start with Providence. Starting lineup: Jenkins, Luis, Allene, Edjifor, Ledlum. Dingle sixth man. Soriano and Conway as needed. Dunlap a maybe.

Lol
Where he will be is in the NCAA tournament
Gonna be a reunion. Posh, Wusu and Jones will be there too.
Good chance Omar Stanley will make it too. We seem to be following the Deion Sander’s playbook 100%. Get all the hype. Get one surprise win in the non-conference and then get slapped back to reality during the conference schedule.

Now like always there is still a path to the tournament. But it’s going to be tough. And it has to start with a concerted effort to make Joel feel like he’s part of the team.

I couple weeks ago I post on Joel’s attitude being off for him. And was worried he’d get a T or flagrant and cost us the game. I speculated that it was that he was frustrated by lack of touches. Joel will set screen all day long and get mismatched in the post only to have our guys shoot 3. And I get the DePaul game, that was essentially an and 1 mix tape have fun sorta game but we can’t shoot 30+ 3s and expect to win. That just relegates our captain to an offensive rebounder. No wonder he is pissed off all the time. We are losing and instead of even looking his way we have 24% Luis, 29% Ledlum, and 30% Dingle firing up threes like they are going out of style.

Things clearly aren’t working. CRP dreams of Zuby being a 4. Why not try something different and start Jenkins, Alleyne, Ledlum, Zuby, and Joel. That way when everyone just beats out guys off the dribble we will have 2 rim protectors to alter shots. Also since our best offense is the put back after the missed 3, we have Joel Zuby and Ledlum all ready to board. It can’t get any worse.

Kolek is a player you want on your team and when he plays against you, you just want to punch.

Sorta like Grayson Allen except his own team also wanted to punch him.

Yes because we will most likely never make the NCAA tournament again

The NCAA tournament all depends on what bracket you’re in and what match ups you have. One or two high seeds falter in a bracket and it’s wide open also.

If the last few tournaments have taught us anything, it's this

If Pitino just kept Andersons group this year
(maybe just adding say two transfers)I think they would have a better record and in line to get in the Tournament!

Another thing to ponder that’s a head scratcher…… it’s now February….. Dunlap starts against UConn and does not get on the court against Marquette? And no one sees anything wrong with this? Coach does not have his team figured out by now?????? I’m not justifying whether he should play or not but there seems to be no line up consistency at this critical time of year.
He hasnt played well lately and if he is missing threes he has little value

No offense , and I know the mods will get on me for saying this, but our team doesn’t have the balls to make him eat his words. I’m a street kid from Brooklyn, and what Kolek said and the way he said it is a fight in my parish any day of F’n week. This team just doesn’t have the gumption.

In hindsight yes, but none of us thought that at the time.

No one is saying that we wouldn’t want him on our team but the way he conducted himself at the press conference and what he said and how he said was total bush league bullshit in my opinion.

And who is responsible for the enforcement of effort? Dingle misses shots cause he’s not that great a shooter and not used to this level of athlete who is defending him. Dunlap is about as coach able a kid as you can get, if his shot is flat, as is Sorianos foul shot, who’s working on their shooting technique? And what do careless passing have to do with lack of effort?
Agree re Dingle and Dunlap, but Soriano trot and Wilcher lazy passes are effort-less!

To those who say last years players would have done better I will say this. I think if Cooley would have just kept Ewings players they would have went undefeated this year. Prove me wrong.

We don’t know what last years guys would be doing together this year. So anyone can say anything. All we know is what they did last year which was worse than this years group is doing. Which does not mean they would absolutely be as bad together again. Maybe they would have been awesome. Nobody knows and nobody will ever know.

But if saying it makes someone feel good in some strange way - carry on!

Marquette came into the game ranked no. 7. We are not in the conversation.

I agree and don’t question his playing time, my statement was more about the fact that at this point in the season you would think the coach has his rotations/starters down. To go from starting to not getting on the court a game later is mind blowing. .
